Shooto Fight Between Sam Hoger and Alistair Overeem in the Works?
Promoted from the FanPosts by Kid Nate.
About a week ago, Sam Hoger says that he could have a big fight coming up:
Potential huge fight in October. This could be a barn burner!
Now, his latest tweets suggest that it could be against the Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, Alistair Overeem (29-11):
Overeem and I may have a date!
...
Overeem and I MAY have a date.....it is not confirmed guys don't ruin it for me now.
Inside fights also confirms this, saying that the fight could take place in Shooto:
Sam Hoger has tentatively agreed to face Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem at an upcoming Shooto event.
Our source informed us that both fighters have verbally agreed to the deal. Bout agreements have not been distributed but are expected shortly.
Sam Hoger (8-4), is a TUF Alum who has notable losses to Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans and Stephan Bonnar, which of course, isn't something to be ashamed off. While he is coming off two straight victories, he could still be in over his head competing against a very dangerous and much bigger fighter in Alistair Overeem.
Alistair Overeem's recent success has been mostly from his impressive run at the K-1 circuit, but if this fight does pan out, will he go from Gary Goodridge, to Sam Hoger, then Fedor Emelianenko? Hmm...
UPDATE (by Kid Nate): I'm not sure what the implications of this fight are for Alistair's defense of his Strikeforce belt, but Scott Coker has to feel somewhat similar to the way Mirko Cro Cop felt during his last fight with Overeem.
Note from Chris Nelson: This is probably a bout for Golden Glory’s 10th Anniversary on October 17th, not Shooto Japan. As user Venom77 points out, "Ultimate Glory events are sometimes referred as Shooto Glory here. Martijn de Jong is both a matchmaker for Glory and Shooto Europe president."
UPDATE 2: mmaweekly says it's gonna be at Glory 11 in Amsterdam:
The 29-year-old Strikeforce heavyweight champion is expected to face original "Ultimate Fighter" alum Sam Hoger at Glory 11 on Oct. 17 in his home city of Amsterdam.
Triple Crown Fighter's Steve Ruisch, who brokered the deal for Hoger, told MMAWeekly.com Monday afternoon that the deal was "95 percent finalized."
UPDATE 3: According to Sam Hoger, the fight is off:
Damn.... It's not coming through with the Alister deal right now. Looks like it's getting pushed back.
Alistair Overeem will instead fight Tony Sylvester (11-2).

Yeah, this will really shut up all his critics who say he hasn’t fought anyone to deserve to be ranked in the top 10.

Well according to Hoger's twitter page-
he is responsible for the boom of the UFC so he deserves it! lol
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
Somebody get a bodybag ready for Hoger. He is definitely going to sleep.

MAYBE if it’s not confirmed, and you’re worried that something might “ruin it”, you shouldn’t POST IT ON YOUR TWITTER.

I expect he’ll be stripped of the belt, if this is true. Laaaame. I really want to…well, okay, I really want to see AO against the UFC’S heavyweights, but I’d settle for him fighting SF’s heavyweights, too.
Oh what the HELL, Hoger fights at 205. Make that any heavyweight.
Or anyone in MMA, I guess. I’m not picky, I just wanna see the dude back in MMA :\
Hoger’s not fighting at 205 now. He’s a heavyweight. Not sure of his current weight, but he’s been bulking up for the past year to try and make a run in that division.
Almost as much fun as reading his comments about Machida on the UG.
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.
Inevitably if he sees a thread about Machida he belittles him and says he is not that good of a fighter.

How many tweets (updates?) do you get a day? If you follow ~230, that’s crapload. How many non-MMA?

Damn, I only follow 16 people and feel like I get swamped with updates. I can’t even think of 200 people I would want to follow (though since you do the Tweet-Tweet, it’s part of your job, I guess).

I’m not sure what the implications of this fight are for Alistair’s defense of his Strikeforce belt, but Scott Coker has to feel somewhat similar to the way Mirko Cro Cop felt during his last fight with Overeem.
Alistair had been scheduled to fight on this show before he signed with Strikeforce. From what I’ve read on mixfight.nl forum Cocker knows about it and even helped in finding an opponent for Overeem.
This is the 10th anniversary of Golden Glory show and Alistair is one of their best fighters. They wanted him to fight Gilbert Yvel, however Yvel’s management rejected the fight. Golden Glory was struggling to find any decent opponnent, because they don’t have as much money as best organisations and Alistair is a scary dude. That’s why he is fighting Hoger in Holland.
People should take the above facts into consideration before they start debating about Strikeforce/Alistair/contract/champion’s cluase issues. He’s not ducking anyone, he’s not affraid of drug tests or Fedor. He’s just fighting on the very important show for his management team against the best opponent they could find for him.

Why not just do an exhibition match with Mousasi?

Yeah, all this business about Overeem violating his contract or being stripped the Strikeforce title is crazytalk. It’s been known for a long time that he would be participating in this event. The only real news is his (possible) opponent.
Hoger looks like a tank-ass in the pic with the article
I hope AO makes his dimples connect.
Every time I see this fuckin guy he looks like he’s running for class president.
