Hopefully Scott Coker jumps right on these guys. All 4 have good resumes.

Franca beat Nate Diaz and fought for a UFC title 2 years ago.

Hermes Franca

Franca really embarrassed himself during UFC 103. He showed up overweight, didn’t offer any decent offense . . . I can understand this cut.

Marcus Aurelio can not compete against the solid wrestlers in the UFC LW division. Clay Guida, Tyson Griffin, Gray Maynard, etc.

Was Justin cut or is his contract up? I thought the unofficial UFC policy was they wouldn’t drop you if you hadn’t loss two in a row.

Word

Farts have lingered around in the UFC longer than some fighters.

Harsh to cut Franca, though he looked like shit against Griffin so maybe that swung it for them. I thought perhaps he was injured but looks like he was just out of shape, that sort of thing doesn’t look good to the UFC brass

Bonnar is too big a name to be let go. He would be on Strikeforce’s next main event.

by ryanwk628 on Oct 4, 2009 6:23 PM EDT up reply actions

LOL at what?

Strikeforce has regularly used Scott Smith as a main event fighter and he makes Bonnar look like Fedor. Bonnar would immediately be a LHW title contender if he went to Strikeforce. Granted, Mousasi would beat him like a rented mule, but that doesn’t change the fact that he would be a HUGE get for Coker.

I hate to say it, but you could be right. :)

Also, showing up something like 9 pounds overweight doesn’t help.

The fight was set at 159.

It was supposed to be at 155 it was only changed because Griffin wasn’t going to make weight.

by Sliup on Oct 4, 2009 7:20 PM EDT up reply actions

You mean because Franca wasn’t going to make weight, but yes, that’s true. The catchweight was decided on a couple of hours before the weigh-ins.

Yeah sorry I meant Franca wasn’t going to make weight, Griffin made weight.

Franca wasn’t part of the “#1 fight in UFC history.”

Chris Wilson has had a tough year.

"He hit like a bitch."

by SMC on Oct 4, 2009 6:00 PM EDT reply actions

yeah

he really blew it when he didn’t beat John Howard that was the fight they gave him to pick up a win and he disappointed there.
too bad, he’s a good fighter and seemingly a nice guy.

I loved his debut, where he knocked Fitch’s ass to the mat several times. Wish he could have put together a nice string of wins.

How is this not a surprise?

Franca, Wilson, and Aurelio are all 2-3 in their last 5. McCully maybe a little surprise but he was 2-2 in his UFC fight career.

The UFC does this so that they can continue to say you are watching the best fighters in the world and I know someone will say Wand or Randy or Franklin have just as bad records lately but those fighters are big draws that get audiences interested even if they have sucked lately.

They’re also quite selective about this.

by JRN on Oct 4, 2009 6:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Franca, Wilson and Aurelio will be solid assets wherever they wind up.

McCully isn’t as bad as some like to make him out, but I still think he’s a bit of a turkey. Strikeforce needs heavyweights though.

by Chris Nelson on Oct 4, 2009 6:41 PM EDT reply actions

NOOOOOOOOO not Justin McCully!! Hahaha just kidding.

haha brutal man

Who's the fellow on the left?

He reminds me of that fat kid with the pink hair from the last UFC.

…OK, I feel bad, I like Hermes Franca. I’ve never seen somebody so happy and carefree after a positive roids test.

150% more Ultimate than the leading competitor.

They cut McCully just because of his name.

He was ahead of his time. The Nsane 1 was too forward thinking for the UFC, revolutionary actually. However they won’t be able to do anything when they realise what he has begun, and the floodgates open. When Anderson Silva changes his nickname to the §p1D3ŗ, he won’t be getting cut

At last, we can witness Fedor vs the American Fedor.

All of these fighters would be solid additions to Strikeforce. I liked Chris Wilson a lot, but for some reason, he underperformed in the UFC. In Strikeforce, Jay hieron is one of their top Welterweights, and Wilson has beaten him. Franca’s a good test for anyone at Lightweight, and possibly seeing him against Melendez or Thompson would be interesting.

Franaca alaready fought Thomson

at UFC 46 and beat him by majority decision.

by bigdmmafan on Oct 4, 2009 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, the possibility of a rematch just makes a fight between the two even more interesting.

by chrisbboy82 on Oct 4, 2009 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I meant Thomson beat Franca my bad

Josh Thomson beat Hermes Franca at UFC 46 by majority decision my bad

by bigdmmafan on Oct 4, 2009 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions

although franca has been less than impressive lately, it’s still quite harsh to cut him just like that
i know not making weight is bad but it’s not like it was travis lutter kinda situation

by CC11 on Oct 4, 2009 9:14 PM EDT reply actions

If Strikeforce jumps all over these guys, wouldn’t it make them look like UFC Lite even more?

Don't argue for the sake of arguing....

Quality depth is better than ignorant perceptions.

Although Franca and Aurelio should retire. Aurelio is too old

Huh

Does Kimbo make UFC than EliteXC Elite?

by bignerd on Oct 4, 2009 11:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Justin McCully

Dana probably said, “We gotta fuckin get rid of this guy. Anyone in our roster with a fuckin nickname of Nsane1 has to go. I mean, Ken-Flo and J-Lau are bad enough, but Nsane1? No fucking way.”

by Kobajack on Oct 5, 2009 3:16 AM EDT reply actions

I’d take McCully against just about anyone in this season’s TUF cast.
