Strikeforce Signs Zaromskis

Brian Knapp of Sherdog has the details:

Dream welterweight champion Marius Zaromskishas come to terms on a multi-fight contract with Strikeforce, according to officials within the promotion.

An emerging superstar at 170 pounds, the 29-year-old Lithuanian could make his promotional debut on Dec. 19 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. Zaromskis will still compete inside the Japan-based Dream organization, which has formed an alliance with Strikeforce.

Having supplanted Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovicas the man with the sport’s most-feared feet, Zaromskis last competed at Dream 12 on Oct. 25, when he leveled Korean Myeon Ho Bae with a first-round head kick in a non-title affair. He captured the Dream welterweight crown in July, as he stopped Affliction veteran Jason High and respected Japanese standout Hayato "Mach" Sakuraion the same night. Both were victimized by Zaromskis head kicks.

Spawned by the London Shootfighters camp, Zaromskis joins a stable of Strikeforce welterweights that includes former EliteXC champion Jake Shields, UFC veteran Nick Diaz and one-time International Fight League titleholder Jay Hieron.

Another great pickup under this new Strikeforce/Dream alliance and I cant wait to see him compete here in the states.

Everyone is calling Zaromskis the next CroCop and for good reason. However, I have to wonder if he’ll be able to have these headkick KO’s against even tougher competition.

The Whitemare is incredibly entertaining, but I think he is really going to struggle against the typical weight-cutting grapplers favored by North American promoters. He looks smaller than a number of lightweights (Maynard, Tibau, etc.) and I can’t think of any WW his size fighting in North America.

He’ll provide Strikeforce with some nice highlights if the match him up carefully, but he could really struggle if they don’t.

No, it didn't.

It was unconfirmed and mostly due to a profile on their website.

I confirmed it beyond the profile on their website (though that’s a pretty huge giveaway considering it was a new website so it was just updated)

I see a lot of brutal head kicks in the future for these StrikeForce fighters.

Zaromskis v Shields

That fight would be sick… Zaromskis wins by head explosion, if he can keep it standing. Whats zaromskis ground game like anyways?

by Chrisapalooza on Nov 2, 2009 3:36 PM EST reply actions

Good take down defense, but if Shields gets him on the ground, it wouldn’t be good for him (it actually hasn’t been good for anyone).

Yep.

Shields is way too big for him. Shields has mauled a couple of world class 185 pounders with his ground game (Lawler, Okami). Handling a smallish WW would be no problem for him.

Just watched his match against Sakurai, glad to see Strikeforce is filling out their divisions and the UFC might actually have a viable contender.

I just hope they can build up enough interest before they go bankrupt with all the fighter salaries they are paying.

Huh? Since when does Strikeforce have high fighter salaries?
