Houston Alexander vs. Kimbo Slice?

Hopefully I'm not re-hashing old news but, from the depths of twitter, it looks like Kimbo Slice is being lined up to face Houston Alexander at either UFC 107 or the TUF 10 finalé

First, Mr. Ferguson tweeted His first mistake was saying "I Accept" and then just about half an hour ago, we see HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM posted as a ReTweet on Kimbo's twitter feed.

If true, Houston is no joke for Kimbo, and we'll get to see what Mr. Ferguson's time in ATT has provided him in the way of new skills.

Conversely this is also a dangerous match for Houston; he's 0 - 3 in his last three fights so a loss to Kimbo might see him handed his hat as he leaves the octagon.

0-3 in his last 3 UFC fights, but his last professional bout was a win.

However, I’ve got to believe Kimbo is in trouble here. Houston has wins over real opposition, while Kimbo has beaten NOBODY!

Houston KO’s him inside Rd1.

by Razzel on Oct 29, 2009 10:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Exactly. Kimbo can’t take a One-Footed Jab from Seth Petruzelli on the chin, so it is going to be nasty to see what happens when Houston catches him.

by fozo on Oct 29, 2009 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

neither could Forrest (Anderson Silva)

Saying that Seth’s striking is on par with Silva’s?

I hadn't spotted that Houston had fought outside the UFC

I popped on to UFC.com and saw his fight bio listing 8-4-1 overall; furthermore it cites his last match as being against Eric Schafer on September 17 in ’08.

Conversely, Sherdog lists Houston as being 9-4-0 with 1 NC, and lists his last fight as being September 18, ‘09 at AMMA 04 vs. Sherman Pendergarst. It’s a bit odd that Houston was allowed to fight in another organisation whilst still under contract with the UFC… I wonder how that came about?

It happens when guys lose a couple times and need to get more ring time. Not common, but not that outside of the norm.

by szucconi on Oct 29, 2009 10:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Joe Silva essentially told Houston

that if he lost another fight in the UFC, he’d be done, so it was suggested he take a fight outside the UFC to build his confidence, while still remaining under contract to Zuffa. If he won, he’d be brought back. They’ve done the same thing with Eric Schafer and Chris Lytle among others.

UFC has done this quite a bit, allowing fighters to get regional fights in to improve and come back.

Shut up Razzel. Kimbo KO’d Afro Puff and he took that fat cop to a decision. I’m sorry, but that’s bigger than anything Houston has done.

by MMAEruption on Oct 30, 2009 7:33 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Houston is going to knock Kimbo out, no questions about it.

by fozo on Oct 29, 2009 10:08 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Only question is when will he do it, not what round but what time in that first round.

by Pennywise on Oct 29, 2009 11:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think people forget Houston has a glass jaw.

by steveoc24 on Oct 29, 2009 10:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

James Thompson has a much worse chin

And Kimbo still didn’t even knock him down. Kimbo’s punching power is overrated.

by Tedd Welch on Oct 30, 2009 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

True...

and let’s look at this…

Houston was rocked by Jardine but recovered and destoryed him

Houston was TKO’ed by Thiago Silva…like a lot of people.

Houston was put down by a perfectly placed superman punch

None of those jump out at me as being OMG! WHAT AN AWFUL CHIN! He doesn’t have a great chin, but I don’t think it’s as bad as people make it out to be

I’d like to add to that that he took massive punishment from Thiago Silva and he never quit and didn’t get KOed. His chin is pretty solid, most people would go out from a perfect superman punch

Was gonna make my own fanpost about it

But I didn’t know if it was ust a rumor, if I needed a second source to confirm, etc

here’s the link where Houston confirms the fight will be at UFC 107

Uh, if Kimbo gets TKO’s by another jab, what implications will that have for the UFC?

by The Lethal Haze on Oct 29, 2009 10:19 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

What happens is that Kimbo fights Chuck and the UFC swims in an Olympic-sized pool full of money.

There's no shame in Houston's Jabs TKOing him

I think a Petruzelli haymaker wouldn’t do as much damage as a Houston jab.

Houston destroyed Pendergarst with BRUTAL leg kicks. If he uses them against Kimbo, he will be just fine.

Can kimbo even cut to 205 properly?

He’s never cut weight before.. Does he have someone to tell him how to diet and cut weight properly?

Even so, there are guys like Vera, who had cut weight before as a wrestler, (and cut much lesser weight than kimbo) who have had trouble doing it the first time. Plus, there’s also the fact that he’ll be coming in against a guy who is a better and more experienced striker.. Has more power too.

I don’t see this going well for kimbo.

Houston is going up

With only one kidney

I’m not confident Houston should eveer cut weight.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

He wouldn’t be the one cutting.

Houston vs. Pendergarst was at HW, but Houston wasn’t more than 210 IIRC.

am i the only one interested in seeing Kimbo vs Rolles Gracie after this and the al turk fight?

if both win or both lose, it’d be a pretty logical fight to do IMO.. plus it would bring hordes of casuals from all areas by just hearing the names KIMBO VS GRACIE

Yes.

Kimbo will fight a bunch of striking cans. UFC should bring back Neil Grove for Kimbo.

I don’t see any reason for it to happen at LHW, unless someone’s really trying to make Kimbo look bad. I can’t imagine how horrible it would be for Kimbo to make his first weight cut ever right before this fight. No way.

Houston seems like a really big muscular 205. Fighting without cutting may even help him out. He doesn’t need to pack on any muscle (or fat). Just come into the fight without having to endure the weight cut.

by cmsove on Oct 30, 2009 6:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My understanding is

They have agreed to both come in at 230 or under.

I don’t see how Kimbo takes off 30 lbs.

by SimplePsych on Oct 31, 2009 3:15 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Alexander has one kidney and doesn’t cut weight, which means he natural 205er …which means he would fight at 185 lbs if he would cut weight… so he’s not big 205 … but he’s just god damn powerful…

by dancingChicken on Oct 31, 2009 7:08 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kimbo has ZERO chance against a kickboxer like Hardonk standing and after the Barry fight I think Antoni would just take the fight to the ground and win with almost no risk.

Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.

by Day Man on Oct 30, 2009 7:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep ...

If it’s true, I have to go with Houston here…

I would like to see Kimbo do well, but H.A is a far more experienced fighter in the cage. Neither of them will take it to the ground, but I feel H.A will throw the crisper, and more precise shots to flatten Kimbola.

The account @RealKimboSlice has been removed from twitter, so it’s likely the messages were fake and potentially a load of B.S.

A statement from Team Kimbo was issued saying

@RealKimboSlice is a FAKE and does NOT speak for me. Team Kimbo is on getting this wannabe taken down before I find him

I apologise for playing a part in getting this circulated around the web. Hopefully Kimbo will get his actual Twitter account verified :)
