Nick when you post somethin do you check it first?

this Video has no audio other then the fucking narrator. (who does the wost narrating I’ve ever heard.) or did you post it so people could clown SF? for cheap production values. lol

by 1WAYtiket on Oct 29, 2009 3:17 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It’s in stereo for whatever reason… Try headphones? =)

by Nick Thomas on Oct 29, 2009 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

it's on both audio channels

if you’re using earphones and only using one plug, put both of them in, because whoever made this video divided the sound channels, it’s all fucked up.

It seems to me that it’s supposed to be a promo piece sent out to CBS affiliates. The audio is split into stems, with the announcer on a separate track so that it can be replaced with the local talents’ VO. The current announcer is probably meant to be guide track, but someone was happy enough with it to release it on youtube. Has anyone seen this on a local CBS broadcast?

by nottheface on Oct 29, 2009 3:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

man, that production was horrid. It was like your local news station previewing the little league baseball game coming up.

by mmalogic on Oct 29, 2009 3:22 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I thought it was someone who recorded and posted online, but it is from Showtime Sports Youtube channel, so I guess it’s from the source. They really need to hire some people that knows how to encode videos

I’m pretty sure even the idiots in Rhinelander, WI have got “stereo” down by now.

In their defense it’s supposed to be a promo piece to be aired with new VO. You can tell because they’ve separated the VO from the rest of the mixi so that it be used as a guide track and replaced with someone else’s VO. My guess the cut it, liked it so much that someone decided to throw it on youtube.

Bret Rogers: I’m not giving him no leeway on nothing.

Is that a double double negative? A triple negative? I’m confused.

by MMAInFeRioRiTy on Oct 29, 2009 3:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Really?

That whole schtick is still going around where we pretend that negatives aren’t being used as intensifiers? That they’re obviously working more like addition and not like multiplication? Really?

Because I half expected you to end that with, “NOT! Don’t have a cow man.” :-)

Doesn’t the triple negative make it “I’m giving him leeway on nothing,” or “I’m not giving him any leeway.”

by cmsove on Oct 29, 2009 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’ve only heard one quadrupal negative in my life. Girl I worked with said “I don’t like 10th avenue burrito Matt, cause they don’t serve not nothing food.”. My brain exploded then.

I just had that happen again reading that quote from Rogers.

lol poor, poor man !

i think he is relying too much on his power punching, he has a punchers chance nothing more. i don’t think Fedor is stupid enough to stand and bang with this dude.

I think for his sake its better than if he knew how much trouble hes in.

Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.

wtf why is everyone disrespecting Rogers so much ? If Fedor fought Carwin or Gonzaga or Werdum would you say he’d Zulu them too ? Cos Rogers is ranked about the same as those guys.
I can’t really see a Zulu scenario here …maybe a quick submission though. but not every fight is Tim Sylvia , Fedor got into tough fights with much lesser competition than Rogers.

by JoelMan on Oct 30, 2009 7:54 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

a) Rankings between companies are both hard to determine and subject to externalities. For instance, a lot of the folks doing the rankings feel that in order to be fair they have to put some non-UFC fighters in their top 10, whether they deserve it or not. See: Robbie Lawler’s perennial standings in the top 10 middleweight division, even though he’s a welterweight UFC washout.

b) In addition, any time somebody is getting set to fight the number one fighter in their organization, they creep up the charts towards him. Anybody who fights Fedor, GSP or BJ will get a good-sized bump as soon as the fight is announced, regardless of anything else. Part of that is obviously the increased hype from the organization, proving that much as none of us like to admit it, marketing and advertising work.

c) Yes, Fedor would Zulu Carwin or Gonzaga, even though they have a much broader skill-set than Rogers, and even though they’ve faced tougher competition than Rogers. Fedor is just that much better.

And I know how that makes me sound: like some irrational Fedor-lover. But his record speaks for itself: he’s beaten all the top guys at the top of their game for years.

Fedor has a great record but so did Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida (oh come on , he fucking lost!). Once they close the cage anything can happen , Rogers showed he’s got tremendous punching power and some good hand speed and accuracy.
I expect Fedor to win but I look at this fight as a tough fight , at least as tough as the Arlovski fight.

by JoelMan on Oct 30, 2009 11:13 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The thing about Fedor is that he has fought the best out there while Machida and Rashad had not. Fedor is undefeated by fighting who’s who of the HW division (although I agree that he hasn’t fought the best as of late). I’m not saying Rogers haven’t fought anyone legit, just that Fedor has a much better resumé compared to Machida and Rashad when it comes down to fighting top competition (and this is coming from an ex Fedor fan, he lost me when he signed with SF).

Define “whip that ass” ? I also believe Fedor is going to win , I just don’t think it’s going to be as easy and trivial as you all make it to be.
I see a submission victory for Fedor but it might take some time that’s all I’m saying. Rogers probably worked his ass off on take down defense.

Oh, Brett’s working on take down defense? Now? Finally? After all these years?

Well then that changes everything. I’m sure that one of the world’s best grapplers will have a lot of trouble taking him down then.

now he is in no way near as Frank makes him out to be, but the dude is far from a can.

by 1WAYtiket on Oct 29, 2009 4:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It’s the absolute can v. relative can debate again.

Rogers is not an absolute can (a talentless neverbeen).

He is a relative can (i.e. he is vastly outclassed by his opponent and stands very little chance of winning).

Some people mean absolute can, and so they get pissed off when a relativist can advocate shows up.

We should have a duel between the foremost advocates of both positions. The one who survives get to define the word.

Wikipedia says:
In boxing or mixed martial arts, “tomato can” is an idiom for a fighter with poor or diminished skills who may be considered an easy opponent to defeat, or a “guaranteed win.” Fights with “tomato cans” can be arranged to inflate the win total of a professional fighter.

That definition doesn’t EXACTLY match up with Rogers, but it’s close enough.

[My wife, a researcher, once went looking for a dataset at the Library of Congress. She’d been told to consult them after having other government agencies swear up and down that they didn’t have the data she was asking for. The guy at the LoC said, “Well, we don’t have anything like that, let me look….” and proceeded to pull up Wikipedia.]

the bottom line for ME i never call anyone a can....

unless i’m like #1 guy and an asshole. i just find it tasteless and immature to call fighters names specially cans., i mean they fight…and they fight better then the key board warriors on these type of sites. so i would never call anyone a can. you could be a bad fighter and asshole a dick a moron , but not a can….because can is just TASTELESS> it don’t prove anything, anyone can get caught, a can could KO the # 1 guy…by luck…so i just get annoyed by people that refer to fighters as cans.

I don’t see it going that way. Tim Sylvia looked scared when he fought Fedor. Rogers is going to feel him out for a minute and then bum rush him. And Fedor isn’t going to back straight up like Arlovski. And at some point, Fedor is going to connect and stun Rogers. Then it’s takedown, armbar, and Fedor’s hand is raised.

Rogers is wayyyy too cocky. I have mixed feelings about how i want Fedor to win. By complete dominating g&p, where Fedor just makes Rogers think “wtf is happening!? Why is my blood everywhere?”

Or a sick KO, give Rogers a taste of his own medicine. I’ll pray for both.
