Shane Carwin: Fight With Brock Lesnar Rescheduled to January 2

From Shane Carwin's Twitter account:

I just heard from Jason. Looks like it is posponed till Jan 2. I had h1ni myself and I understand how devastaing it can be.

Looks like the UFC just got it's New Year's show main event squared away.  Now the UFC is much less dependent on Anderson Silva's elbow and/or willingness to take on Vitor Belfort.

How do you get conspiracy theorist out of that post? I was making a reference to how deep and well laid out the UFC infrastructure is that a horrible event like this can be identified and fixed so quickly and smoothly. It’s the OPPOSITE of a conspiracy theory

Dana may be many things but a dumb man he is not, he knows what will give him the most money and that Tito/Forrest should get good buys bye itself.

Interesting issue this creates

With Brock-Carwin on the card and Spider getting a PPV cut isn’t he much more likely to accept the Vitor fight at this point?

Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.

With BROCKLESNAR on the card? I’d say his elbow feels GREAT right about now.

The name of the game is MONEY and that’s what Silva is after. With Brock now aboard, and a huge payday increase inevitably on the way for that card, It’s a no-brainer for Silva now.

once again Dana wins

it’s much easier to shuffle yourself a good hand when you’ve got 90% of the cards.
This is a much better New Year’s main event. As much as I was looking forward to this fight in November, I think this is a better outcome.
And besides I have no doubt that Anderson Silva and Ed Soares would try to absolutely exploit them if they were counting on Anderson to headline the NYE card.

What does this mean for TIto. It seems to me that some sort of deal was struck with him to put his first fight on the Lesnar card, driving up his ppv buy (who knows maybe it was the other way around). Did they have to move him just to please Anderson? Is Brock going to be part of every stars future negotiations?

People throw around gatekeeper too much like it’s this terrible thing.

If you’re going to classify them as gatekeepers, they are gatekeepers to the very top of the most stacked division in the sport. It’s a good fight, and it has two big draws, so it will make a great card.

Better 106 loose out than potentially having the NYE show end up messed up due to Silva’s shenanigans. This way, regardless of what Silva does, they still have a money fight for that night. Although, I have no doubt that now Lesnar is on that card, Silva will be perfectly fine to defend his belt come NYE. I doubt we’ll be hearing any more elbow issues or other silly comments now from Silva’s camp.

Dana’s not milking you if you simply don’t pay $44.99. Don’t watch if it doesn’t appeal to you.

I STILL poop rainbows.

But he knows he can get away with thinning the fight cards. Why put 2 sick fights on one fight when you can do 1 and 1 and get 75%. It’s smart business but from the fan’s perspective it sucks.

I'm a fan

And I don’t see it that way. 1.5 shows a month and we’re calling Tito/Griffin, Karo/Hazellet and Cane/Lil Nog watered down (without knowing that Lesnar isn’t truly ill)? Can’t agree with you there..

Tito and Forrest are 0-4-1 in their last 5 fights. The last legitimate win for Tito was back in the UFC 50’s. I’ll agree about Cane/Nog because that’s the best fight on the card. I don’t think well see the Karo of old. Maybe Hazlett pulls off a slick sub. Maybe not. It could be exciting.

by ZombieWamma on Oct 26, 2009 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t like Tito, but that’s a fight that is sure to please. Forrest always comes out to bang and Tito has a ton to prove after all this back-surgery business and his new deal. Plus, their not having won in some time makes them both desperate to impress. You require title implications to enjoy a fight or something?

The fight may very be well exciting. Idk.

But can watching 2 drunk midgets try to beat up each other be also equally entertaining?

There reaches a point in the back of my head when the perceived skill level cannot make up for the excitement possibility.

by ZombieWamma on Oct 26, 2009 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s borderline fighter bashing, and I think you’re losing your own point here.. Don’t order the PPV and like-minded individuals will undoubtedly effect the buyrate. Problem solved.

I’m not saying Tito is skill less. He’s done alot for the sport and is a great fighter. But a main event on your first fight in years? C’mon. If Kimbo wins a fight can you sell him in a main event? It wouldnt shock me.

Does the UFC really believe that a fight between Griffin (who’s coming off two straight losses) and Ortiz (who has a loss, a draw, and another loss in his last three outings) is main event caliber, or is this just a temporary fix?

CagePotato

They’ll add a co-main event but I’m positive that’ll be the main event.

by ZombieWamma on Oct 26, 2009 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So am I

It’s a draw. Are you honestly concerned with the order of the fights? If a fight you deem better than this one becomes the co-main, but Forrest/Tito headlines, are you honestly going to be effected in some way?

I could care less. I care more about the fact that people are still going to buy this card. After the Dan/Rich 2 event, Dana might try to squeeze more talent on a card if he knows people wont buy it. (i.e. more free fights, more quality).

I bet Tito/Forrest will be an exciting fight. It’s just not a $50 fight.

by ZombieWamma on Oct 26, 2009 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What are you complaining for? If you don’t like it then just buy the new years card and then you save money. Sounds like a good deal to me.

by ufc4 on Oct 26, 2009 7:31 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

It’s a watered down card at its present state. Some people enjoy Keystone Beer. I don’t. If this card does do well the UFC will keep pushing the envelope to see what’s the crappiest main event they can put on and still get decent ppv’s. I suppose UFC 106 is an experiment in a sort of way.

by ZombieWamma on Oct 26, 2009 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Have you ever considered the fact that maybe to some people that fight IS main event worthy? Tito and Forrest are both popular guys, if people want to pay to see them fight so be it. If you don’t like it don’t buy it.

A quick thought experiment: how big of show do you think this would have been if the UFC promoted it? It was supposed to have Arlovski vs. Barnett, Lindland vs. Babalu, Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Ben Rothwell vs. Pedro Rizzo, and Paul Buentello vs. Roy Nelson. If the UFC logo was on the poster would it have done well, or are none of these fighters draws?

Personally, I think it would have struggled to hit 300,000 which seems to be the UFC bottom.

Yeah

300k if they were lucky, and that being on the back of Arlovski’s recognition.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Oct 26, 2009 7:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is why people have a problem with you.

Yes, you made an observation, but the underlying meaning of your posts when taking in your entire body of work on the site causes people to read between the lines.

If you don’t want people to read between the lines that way, try doing some “reporting” about some of the positive things or some of the negative things that can be reported about the other orgs.

You keep saying “i love ALL mma,” but you really don’t act like it with your “reporting” and commenting.

I like how people have to think really deep when they read my posts.
I can give you an example.

If I write “UFC gets 1.9 million gate for UFC 104”.

I will get these:

So what? That’s 100x better than Striekeforce, and they still made good money.

I LOL everytime. Like I represent a certain promotion so people feel they have to bash it in a reply to me.

Judging how "casuals" react by reading the blogs and the internet has to be the most boneheaded mode of analysis ever. It’s like trying to get a scientific consensus reading an IGN thread on global warming.

I think Nate-Vitor would be nice. Obvious Anderson isn’t fighting him at 108 i think.

It’s not a great main event, that’s for sure.

But with that said, the overall card is pretty solid. There are compelling bouts at 106.

Does it really matter it’s not a great headliner?

Sucks that Lesnar vs. Carwin is going to be postponed but the January card should be equally stacked as UFC 106 was going to be so that should do huge numbers too.

I’m hoping that they add another quality fight, maybe they can get Franklin to take on Sonnen that would be a nice match up and add some more eyeballs to UFC 106.

Wasn't Brock At The Vikings Game Just Last Week?
White said Lesnar has been ill for more than three-and-a-half weeks and unable to train. With the bout at UFC 106 less than a month away, Lesnar was forced to postpone the title defense.

“He said he’s never been this sick in his life,” White said. “He said it’s been going on for a long time and he just hasn’t been able to shake it.”

From Gross:

Lesnar is at his Dr.‘s right now getting blood work done. They couldn’t risk facing Carwin if 3 most important weeks of training were off.about 2 hours ago from web
Lesnar’s trainer Greg Nelson tells me Brock fell ill starting last week. Lacked “zip” in his training Thurs./Fri. No word yet it’s H1N1.about 2 hours ago from web

Seems like something has been lost in translation going from Lesnar’s to camp to Dana to Iole.

Pretty disappointing ...

Not that Griffin vs Tito is a bad fight but we’ve already seen it and I’m not sure it was that great the first time . Besides , they took the most important fight (of the year probably) from the card . They need to work REALLY hard to find a good co main event for this to work , and no Little Nog doesn’t count.
Shogun vs Machida 2 would’ve been cool but no way they could clear them so soon. Right now the card isn’t worth half it’s price imo , with all due respect to Griffin (I even bought his book) .
I think that putting all your huge stars in a small number of cards isn’t the right way to go…
