"HE TOOK A SWING AT ME!"

Walking out of the Staples Center Saturday night I felt very uneasy.  I, like many, felt that Machida had lost the fight. Rua looked to be in top form.  He had an excellent strategy and seamed to have found the cipher that changed Machida from a mysterious puzzle box to a wet paper bag.  No disrespect to Machida, he is a great fighter, but he had lost the untouchable aura that had been surrounding him.

I was perked up when on my way to finding a cab when I noticed everyone's favorite corner man, Stitch, hanging out and taking pictures with some fans.  I took my place in line and waited to get my own picture when behind me I heard "HE TOOK A SWING AT ME!".

Star-divide

I turned around and saw a 40 something year old 300  something pounder in a green polo shirt and cargo shorts (drunk guy 1) squaring off against another 40 something year old 180 something pound man who had obviously had way too many of the 9 dollar beers at the fight (drunk guy 2).  The two men circled each other hands up but never looked too serious.  I assumed they were two friends joking around and resumed the attempt at getting my new profile picture.

THUD.

I turned around and  saw the smaller man's head bouncing off of the cement.  Standing over him was a younger, slimmer version of the drunk guy 1 (we'll call him drunk guy 1.1) who was shouting "HE TOOK A SWING AT HIM!"  The father son duo ran off as the other man bled on the side walk.  He was helped off the concrete but stumbled around disoriented (probably from 1 part concussion and 2 parts B.A.C.)

Without hesitation stitch dropped his bag and pulled out several of his ring side instruments.  The man was bleeding badly from where his head met the concrete.  It is a real testament to why stitch is so universally well liked (name one other corner man ................................... I'm waiting) that after a long night of piecing professional fighters faces back together that he would take the time to help out someone that may or may not have deserved his help.

The world could use a few more stitches.

Stitch

(Stitch, drunk guy number 2, and the guy that helped him off the concrete)

As a doctor you are supposed to stop and help people in need of medical attention even when you aren’t on the job. Its one of their oaths. My dad is a dr and he pulls over at car accidents when ambulances haven’t gotten there yet

Still, Stitch is the man

Stitch is the man

… although he told me that he often gets mistaken for Edward James Olmos or Carlos Santana. :)

Your spreading the “word” of this great act by Stitch is worthy of almost equal acclaim.

Sweet story.

Stitch seems like a really good guy. I was impressed with the videos he did following grease gate (sorry for having to use those words….wanted to keep them buried where they belong) explaining the techniques used between rounds as well as providing a lot of insight into what really goes on during that frantic minute between rounds. He and Leon Tabbs are legends in combat sports and would probably make for a great book with all the things they’ve seen throughout their years in the ring/octagon and now sidewalk. definitely Rec’d. awesome job with getting a pic too
