Dana White says Anthony Johnson was passed over for the knockout of the night-bonus, due to his failure to make weight at UFC 104:
"He should have (won it)," said UFC president Dana White. "He should have won it, but because he didn’t make weight, he wasn’t eligible for it, but he would have won."

i think this is a good way to say ’it’s not okay to miss weight’

Agreed
I understand Johnsons situation, but can’t reward someone for having an unfair advantage – intentional or not.

AJ showed up weighing 195 lbs on Monday. He admitted that in an interview. He is trying to say that he got big because of a knee injury. Bullshit. He is not being honest. He is not disciplined. He did not deserve the extra money. They say that was a fight to showcase his talent. That fight did nothing positive for him. They need to give him some true competition and then he can get some respect.

I like Johnson just a little bit less after last night. That just wasn’t fair to Yoshida, and he was being a good company man by accepting the fight when he probably shouldn’t have. Reminded me a lot of the Cyborg/Akano fight..
I STILL poop rainbows.
Both of those fights shouldn’t have happened.

No doubt
I hate that Yoshida comes out looking like a bum when he was fighting a guy that probably walked in at 200 pounds and he (Zenko) could make 155 if he wanted.
I STILL poop rainbows.

In fairness, Thiago Alves knocked out a legend in the main event.
Anthony Johnson knocked out Yoshiyuki Yoshida in the first match on the pay-per-view.
Not to say that it isn’t a hypocritical circumstance, but it’s not an identical circumstance, either.

Maybe the fallout from that is why it was changed.

could be something they’ve decided to do since then. otherwise, yeah… a bit hypocritical. and there were a few other ko’s at ufc85, so that they can’t claim they gave him the bonus by default.
Let’s be honest here, If Yoshida had walked into the cage at 176 as well it wouldn’t have mattered. Johnson was knocking him out regardless of what weight either walked in. I agree, as a fighter you have to make the contracted weight, but I don’t think the extra lbs had anything to do with deciding the outcome in this one.
It almost certainly did. Imagine how drained AJ would have been had he cut the final 6 pounds in an hour. He would have had almost no energy.

He wouldn’t have been able to get 6 pounds off in an hour.

I didn’t have a chance to watch the weigh-ins, but a friend told me that he observed Johnson being told he would not be allowed to cut additionally. The doc obviously put the kabosh on that. So yeah— he would not have cut another six.
I STILL poop rainbows.

A no win situation for Yoshida
If he doesn’t take the fight, he’d be perceived as weak and not a true fighter by the UFC and the fans. Taking the fight pretty much guaranteed a KO loss.
Maybe that was Joe SIlva’s plan all along. I don’t know if you’re going to have such an obvious mismatch, can’t they at least put it on the undercard to TRY to protect the loser a little bit? Now Yoshida looks like a complete idiot with that KO.
Ah, the old Joe Silva conspiracy theory again...
its been getting alot of play on the boards post-104.
