Tiki's comment

Is also amusing when viewed in light of Machida vs. Thiago Silva. It’s not Karate vs. Muay Thai, it’s the individual fighters: mind, body, technique and strategy/tactics.

Razor Rob's is my favorite...

an Anchorman-esque misuse of “when in Rome”

Veronica: “Oh, well, when in Rome.”
Razor Rob: “Yes? Please go on.”
Veronica: “Uh, do as the Romans do? It’s an old expression.”
Razor Rob: “Oh! I’ve never heard of it.”
Veronica: “Oh.”
Razor Rob: “It’s wonderful, though.”

Veronica: “But it’s very important to me that I be viewed as a professional.”
Razor Rob: “Right. When in Rome. Hmm.”
Veronica: “Yeah. That, uh, expression doesn’t really apply to what I’m talking about”
Razor Rob: “Oh. Oh, I’m—”
Veronica: “What I was saying.”
Razor Rob: “I still don’t quite understand what it means.”

lol

So any chance the rematch takes place on Jan 2? Didn’t they need a main event for that one? I really hope they do it then.

gah you guys are gonna smack yourselves

It was machida’s birthday, and all three of the judges forgot to buy Machida a gift. it all makes sense. Plus machida offered them all urine before the match, so they had to give him a surprise.

anyone could’ve made one of these going the other way…. this is getting silly. this wasn’t beebe vs easton.

by cagefightonacid on Oct 25, 2009 5:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This wasn’t beebe vs easton, yeah, I think we got it. Lol it’s like this bout redefined (defined?) the term robbery. It didn’t, it was just worst than usual.

i don’t think it was bad.

by cagefightonacid on Oct 25, 2009 6:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah

and just because it isn’t the worst decision in MMA history means we should ignore it?

by Hendo_One-Shot on Oct 25, 2009 5:45 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

who said ignore it?! I just don’t think it was that bad of a decision, and I’m not alone.

Find all the credible Websites scores...

ask the majority of fighters… ask MOST of the hardcores, and MOST of the casuals… like the crowd in attendance…

The majority of people who watched this fight thought Shogun won.

I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.
lol.

I just asked all those people and it was machida by a landslide….

I'm not credible?

People are overreacting on both sides.

A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.

by iiowyn on Oct 25, 2009 6:52 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

i dont think I’m over-reacting. i thought it was close, couldve been a draw, but I believed lyotos shots to the head and body were better than the leg kicks of shogun. had shogun won, I wouldve understood but it’s just this “robbery” business that is laughable.

by cagefightonacid on Oct 25, 2009 7:05 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly.

I understand disagreeing with the decision, especially in a close fight like that, but claiming robbery is discrediting all of the actual robberies that happen.

A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.

Watch the fight again from an unbiased perspective..

And it is an entirely different fight. I gotta applaud the judges, actually, because they came up with what I came up with after watching it 3 times.

The crowd in attendance thought Shogun won? Actually they we’re screaming about Machida “running like he always does”. The boos came from the geniuses in the nose bleed section. L.A. fans are awful in general but as MMA fans they are truly pathetic.

I agree. I sat up there and there were lots of know it all jackasses sitting up there. Also all the booing and all the mehico chants were pretty lame too.

Where is Breen and all the other MAchida nut huggers now?

Fighters have spoken up and everyone agrees Shogun won the fight.

That’s fine. But that won’t change the result. Just because most people think something doesn’t necessarily make it true. Unfortunately for Shogun, history will record it as a loss.

Controversy asides...

What did you guys think of the fight aesthetically?

I personally think it was very lackluster, and I’m a huge fan of both Machida and Shogun. Maybe I’ll have to watch the fight again with clearer mind, but throughout the fight it seems like there are 5 seconds of action then 15 seconds inactivity with both guys trying to gauge each other. Fightmetric strikes total were very low for a five rounds battle.

by m-e-s-s-i-a-h on Oct 25, 2009 6:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It was a solid technical battle

Like I said before, it seemed more like a fight you’d see in K-1 than a UFC fight. Both were really looking more to score points than to go in and murder the other guy and both guys were using brilliant technique to do so.

Not the most exciting fight, but I’d take that over a technical wrestling bout any day of the week.

I liked it a lot. Not action-packed, but you could tell that both guys were thinking strategically, which I appreciate. And I wouldn’t say they were simply trying to outpoint each other, either. When opportunities for major aggression presented themselves, they went for them; those opportunities simply weren’t there very long or very often.

There was no doubt in my mind when I was watching Machida/Shogun that I was watching high-level MMA fighters at, or at least near, their best. I’ll take a fight like this over a thousand Quarry/Credeurs.

by JRN on Oct 25, 2009 8:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Rua won the fight. That being said…. I in no way want to see a rematch. That fight was boring as hell. Neither guy wanted to go after the other. Both guys looked like they were not fighting to win but more so not to lose.

by b2tharad on Oct 25, 2009 7:07 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Ironically this fight is the opposite of the Forrest vs Rampage title fight… with Forrest vs Rampage the controversy was that Forrest beat Rampage with a steady strategy of leg kicks. With Shogun vs Machida the controversy is that he didn’t.

by brad23 on Oct 26, 2009 8:57 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think in this case it’s really just a vocal minority that believe Machida deserved the win.
