Marius Zaromskis is officially the new generations Cro Cop

@deowade
Does that mean that Myeon Ho Bae is the new generation's Dos Caras?
Seriously … that guy had no business being in the cage with the Whitemare. That finish was as predictable as a Clay Guida dry humping.
I would just like to say that DREAM 12 delivered the goods last night. In my opinion, putting production values aside, it was a slightly, slightly better event than UFC 104.

you're nuts!!
no disrespect but i don’t really think lopsided match-ups are delivering the goods. the saku fight was awesome but outside of that there was never a doubt in my mind of the winners of alvarez/marius/overeem fights before they happened.

i’ll watch it again, but i don’t remember kikuno doing anything well except his zombie impression…

Maeda/Beebe was a good fight.
Alvarez/Kikuno was a very good fight.
Saku pulling victory from the jaws of defeat was fucking incredible.
We had a Zaromskis murder kick and a standing guillotine from Ubereem.
All in all, I’d say that makes for a pretty damn good event.

maeda/beebe was good, alvarez/kikuno was ok but never was eddie in danger or out of control… i’d rather him be fighting top 10, saku was fucking incredible, and zaromskis should have been fighting someone decent as well as ‘ubereem.’ it’s all a matter of opinion, but i enjoyed 104 much more…

Myeon Ho Bae isn't "decent?"
I dunno, man. The guy’s tough as nails and Marius zapping him with that LHK was def. impressive to me.
As for Kikuno having Alvarez in danger, watch Eddie’s post-fight interview. He thought he wasn’t in trouble when Kikuno had him in that crucifix for about 2 1/2 minutes, but he said when he pulled his head out, his equilibrium was totally thrown off and he couldn’t find his footing. And Kikuno was denying all of his TD attempts early on.

fair enough
i was more commenting on the comparison of ufc 104 and dream.12, i just think it was on a different level of quality as far as match-ups. myeon ho bae hasn’t beat anyone close to the top 10, why should their champ be fighting him?? that’s all i’m saying. if it was georges fighting someone below the top 5, people would flip out… it just seems that dream is held to a different standard.

I wasn’t referring to the match-ups. I care about, and was referring to, how things unfolded. You can have two of the very best fighters in the world in a cage/ring and the fight could turn out to be a dud.
DREAM 12, to me, was a more entertaining event than UFC 104. And I was being nice by excluding the production values between the two because then I would have to weigh it even more in favor of DREAM 12.

and you’re entitled to your opinion…. i completely disagree and was much more entertained by 104, as i’ve said, but i guess it’s all a matter of perspective (especially the production style) and what you want from the sport.

Zaromskis has never beaten anyone close to the top 10 either (OK, maybe Sakurai was “close,” if you have a fairly liberal definition of that term). To hold him to the standard match-wise as someone like GSP wouldn’t make any sense. He wouldn’t have anybody to fight.
sakurai is an awesome win so i don’t think that works. i think you mis-understood the gsp comparison. i’m not saying marius should be fighting the same caliber opponent as gsp, just that he should fight someone who is worthy of fighting their champ.
by cagefightonacid on Oct 25, 2009 5:44 PM EDT up reply actions
Sakurai is still a good win in 2009, but it’s not what used to be. And you said “myeon ho bae hasn’t beat anyone close to the top 10,” which suggests that MHB should have had to beat a top 10 fighter to get a match with Zaromskis, who is himself not a top 10 fighter. That doesn’t make any sense.
Don’t get me wrong, it would have been nice for them to have gotten Zaromskis a higher-profile opponent for an actual title match, but MHB is not really that far below Zaromskis. That fight wasn’t any crazier than Serra/GSP, for example.
it would have been nice for them to have gotten Zaromskis a higher-profile opponent for an actual title match
that’s all i wanted. and serra ko’d gsp but i get what you’re saying. all i mean is that i wish they had given marius somebody who he would’ve respected as a danger.

Kikuno-Alvarez
I had that one for Kikuno in R1 pretty lopsidedly, possibly a 10-8, but like Gleison Tibau’s stand-up, his stand-up seemed to come apart when they gassed, I think due to both Kikuno’s attempt to hold onto that standing crucifix neck crank and also because of Alvarez’s cage work. (Possibly mental weakness when seeing that Alvarez was weathering Kikuno’s signature mikazuki giri “crescent moon kick”?)
i need to watch that again on a better stream.

in the zaromskis highlight, does anyone have any idea what he was trying to accomplish by doing a backflip?

I’m starting to get excited everytime Zaromskis fights. Was hoping he’d be in the cage a little longer to see how he adjusts, though… But I guess I’ll have to settle for utter domination.
Also, can I get Megareem to tryout for our club basketball team?
We're just a million little gods causin' rain storms, turning every good thing to rust.
Good stuff from the ref. Maeda was really impressive as well.

i fail to understand why i got a warning
expressing one’s opinion i thought was the point of a comments section? why have one if you’re going to silence peoples opinions when they don’t match your own. whatever though… if it makes ya happy…

It was pretty damn awesome, but I'm still on the fence about the netting.
No pun intended.

I thought DREAM.12 was a great show. Definitely delivered after UFC 104 left a bitter taste. The only question now is how the Japanese MMA fans and media thought about the show and the cage.
I hope they keep the cage..
increase it’s frequency from once a year, to once every few months.. :)
