Machida: "I've already been corrected by Anderson"
Machida, during the post fight presser, saying that Anderson came in the back to tell him some of the things he did wrong vs Shogun. I just wanted to put this out there because it seems like a really interesting comment, one that could be interpreted as nothing, or as a little shred of proof that between the two, Anderson is the superior fighter. Heck, little shreds are all we are going to get since they will never fight each other!
So really, the purpose of this post is just to ask what you guys think of this statement, and also to ask how you feel a fight would go between Shogun and Anderson?

I would still take Anderson
Even after ko’ing Rashad and Thiago, Machida’s striking was never as good as Silva’s striking. I would still give Shogun a chance.
Tonight Shogun showed that he still has it and at only 27 we can hopefully look forward to many more great fights. I’m hoping for a rematch right away.
However with the rematch I would not be so quick to take Shogun, I think he won tonight and I think the fact that the judges screwed him of a decision hurts him more than helps.
Machida trains Black House and so if you think Rua will just be able to come in and dominate him like tonight I believe you are mistaken. Not saying Rua cant win but obviously Machida is gonna work on getting better and correcting mistakes.

Oh yeah, it’s going to be a very different fight, and I’m excited about it.

Shogun V’s Silva ? That gets me excited. I’ll take Silva KO Rd 2.
Holy snapping duck shit...

That’s what everybody watching the PPV was talking about as the fight was ending. We we all like “Shogun beating Machida? Anderson isn’t going to like that!” lol.

That would have been great, and after Silva beat him i could have finally gotten to see A.Silva vs Evans for the LHW title that i have been waiting so very long for, guess i can only hope Shogun takes out Machida in the rematch i suppose.

Anderson would take out Shogun, but after tonight I don’t think it would be a cakewalk, like I might have said previously. I didn’t see where Shogun dominated Lyoto, I thought he edged out a decision, but yeah, I was immediately flipping out at the possibility of Anderson vs. Shogun for the title.

He actually said that his father and Anderson both corrected him.
It was probably minimal adjustments or strategic things that they saw.

I think its a lot easier for people watching the fight to comment/correct/advise than it is for a fighter, it’s not an indicator of skill level between Machida and Anderson. Also I think Anderson might have some good insights into defending Shogun since they are but more Muay Thai guys. That being said, I would probably favor Anderson over both Machida and Shogun, but not by a lot.

Come on… Tiki Ghosn “corrects” Rampage Jacksons mistakes…. does that mean he’s better than Ramage?

I think its funny how all the Machida talk is done, its as if hes the worst fighter on the planet now. He made a couple mistakes, he’ll be back. Congrats to Shogun, had the puzzle solved but could not finish it.

Who said he’s the worst fighter on the planet?

after seeing shogun pick him apart, anderson will slap machida around like his b*tch (forrest)

I think Anderson probably pointed out the flaws Machida made against Shogun, in a rematch Machida would probably do much better and win. Now Shogun versus Anderson would be an amazing fight. I think Anderson has better standup than Shogun but the weight disadvantage might make things more even.
for all intents and purposes, just consider all my posts as works of satire.

Does no one think Shogun would come with his own adjustments in a rematch?
Oh say, finding a KO window within the mini-exchanges? If nothing else, Shogun and his team just demonstrated an incredible fighter IQ, and I have no doubt in their camp this tape will be played more than Frampton Comes Alive!

Blocking leg kicks kills Shogun’s game plan.
by dancingChicken on Oct 25, 2009 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well, Machida’s gonna have to do something with his stance then. And if the arms drop to block the body kicks, the head is exposed. There’s a lot Shogun can do to stay ahead of the curve on Machida, don’t expect his gameplan to stay the same.

I hope Machida will realize that he has to adjust. Evading doesn’t work all the time…
And it’s not like Shogun is some world class MT fighter. His performance was impressive in terms fighting IQ not technique.
Tomorrow is K1 Max final. Those people are world class strikers and they know how to deal with any kinds of kicks.
by dancingChicken on Oct 25, 2009 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Of course they check leg kicks well but it’s because they don’t have to worry about being taken down. Also they get a count after they get knocked down. In MMA you have to be more cautious and you have to think about so many things, sometimes it’s easy to overlook checking leg kicks.
by majesticlamb on Oct 26, 2009 12:45 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well, this was basically a striking fight. If I’m correct in round 5 Machida checked one or two leg kicks.
In MMA it’s easy to overlook something, but after 2 rounds it was obvious that leg kicks were Shoguns main weapon. I was very surprised that fighter as skilled as Lyoto couldn’t find an answer for Shogun ( in 4 round Machida’s brother was telling Lyoto to find Shoguns timing. bit too late, right?)
by dancingChicken on Oct 26, 2009 10:37 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
His answer was to punch Shogun in the face.
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.
by iiowyn on Oct 26, 2009 11:01 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Then he needs to put more power into those answers. Point strikes ok, but receiving hard leg kick and countering it with punch that doesn’t rock or bruises Shoguns face doesn’t look like an answer.
If Lyoto would check few low kicks, none of this robbery shit would be discussed…
by dancingChicken on Oct 26, 2009 2:45 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The head is already exposed (supposedly) just from the stance… hopefully this won’t turn out like a Chuck Liddell situation where eventually the speed and reflexes are gone too much for the stances to work. He does however present this in a way that a lot of guys seem unused to, perhaps due to the “headhunting” mentality, hence the confusion and perturbedness of his previous opponents, whereas Rua came really prepared and with a different mentality. I’d say it speaks much better of Shogun than it speaks ill of Lyoto or Lyoto’s previous opponents
Re: the “battle” of seeing who’s made better improvements come fight time… that’s what the rematch intrigues. :)

I thought it was already a known known that Anderson was the better fighter.

Really? Because I don’t agree with you at all. Machida’s strength of schedule is at least comparable if not better thand andersons and he still has not lost a fight. People have bad nights. Anderson has had several in his career. Machida is still relatively young in his career.
I’m not going to shit all over Machida last night for that fight. I still think he’s the best LHW on earth and we will never know for sure who the better fighter is.

shogun proved he is a better fighter than machida
by oousty on Oct 25, 2009 2:45 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, no he didn’t. It was a REALLY close fight. The commentary was so one sided I think it skewed the fight a bit.

Anderson is like fine wine aged to it’s peak and finest flavour. He’s honed all of his skills to the level of poetry. Watching him move is akin to listening to Beethoven’s 5th. His character is entirely unflappable and fearless. He’s nearly inhuman and completely inexplicable.
Machida isn’t there yet and is still slightly unrefined. His speed sacrifices his power to a large extent. His endurance doesn’t look like it’s up to snuff either. One day maybe for Machida, but not yet.

this is something i was going to bring up last night
machida is still relatively inexperienced compared to anderson. this is one of the ways being more experienced actually has tangible effects on a fight(unlike a situation like velasquez vs rothwell): the ability to know what you are doing wrong and adjust midfight

Yeah, for what it’s worth, Machida’s father has said that Anderson is better than Lyoto.

It was in the cover story on Machida in this month’s Fighters Only magazine. He hasn’t put it so clearly elsewhere, but he talks about how he loves Anderson because he’s a showman, and says that Anderson knows he can finish a fight anytime, but tries to entertain in doing so…There’s also an article on Yoshizo at Sherdog, where you can get the gist, although he stops short of predicting who would win in a fight between the two.
