UFC 104 Results: Ryan Bader Takes a Decision Over Eric Schafer

Bader__20ryan_mediumIn a bout between an All American wrestler and a Jiu Jitsu black belt, sloppy boxing predominated. Ryan Bader, the All American wrestler landed the better punches and took home the unanimous decision.

Ryan Bader vs Eric "Red" Schafer Round 1 Bader takes the center of the cage. Lots of feints on the feet. Some jabs. Wild hooks missing for both fighters. Ugly fight so far. Bader lands a body shot with nothing on it. Bader runs across the cage and tags Schafer with a hook. Drops him. Bader battering Schafer from the top. Schafer stands. Bader slams him! Schafer back up and Bader ragdolls him down. Bader on top punching, Schafer turtled up. Schafer working for a kimura with no position, Bader evades but winds up in guard. Schafer threatens with an omaplata but Bader escapes and stays on top. Bader stands to end the round. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 for Ryan Bader.

Round 2 More noncommittal exchanges on the feet before Bader gets poked in the eye. Schafer with a hook. Schafer stepping forward. Bader tags him. Schafer firing more jabs. Lands a right. Bader with a left. This is ugly. Not even bad kickboxing, it's just bad boxing. Bader with a body shot. Bader with a left hook. Schafer clips Bader with a looping right. Bader lands a hard counter right. Another. Schafer with a combo. Bader with a left kick. Bader tries a takedown, gets stuffed. Schafer with a right. Bader shoots, Schafer stuffs him and goes for a guillotine. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 Eric Schafer.

Round 3 It's anybody's fight. Bader lunges with a hook and drops Schafer. Follows him down and is scoring with ground and pound. Schafer manages to tie up Bader in his guard. Bader backs up and out of guard. Schafer is bleeding. They check Schafer's cuts but let him continue. More sloppy boxing exchanges. Schafer stares at the clock. Bader wings another hook and misses. Bader scores with a jab. Bader shoots in and gets a takedown. He gets to side control. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 for Ryan Bader. Bloody Elbow scores the fight 29-28 Ryan Bader.

I was really impressed with Eric Schafer I don’t think anyone expected him to do as well as he did against Bader

Red’s one of those fighter’s I’ll always root for, even if I don’t think he’ll ever win a title.

And if you didn’t think he could take a shot, rewatch the Houston Alexander fight
