As with every major show, BloodyElbow.com will be here to bring you live results and commentary for UFC 104: Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. The live blog will start with the beginning of the Spike TV broadcast (at 9PM ET) and then we'll move right into the PPV broadcast (at 10:00 PM ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event.
As always we have our one rule: NO SPOILERS! In the interest of not ruining anything from the undercard that may make the broadcast we ask that you do not discuss the results of the undercard in the comments until either the broadcast ends or the fight makes the air.

Up first: Barry vs Hardonk.
Pat Barry vs Antoni Hardonk Round 1 Barry paces in his corner. Hardonk checks his nose. Hardonk has his psycho killer look going. Josh Rosenthal is the ref. Arianny is the ring girl. Hardonk won't touch gloves. Barry firing early. Hardonk misses with a high kick. Leg kicks are traded. Barry scoring. Barry with a right hook. Barry switches stances after a leg kick from Hardonk. Barry poked in the eye. Takes Rosenthal a minute to notice. We're back. Hardonk lands a knee to the gut. More trading. More leg kicks. Hardonk shoots, Barry puts him on his back. Barry tries for the crucifix from side control. Now working for mount. Hardonk gets 1/2 guard. Barry passes. Back to the feet. Barry firing, lands! Barry with a mouse under his eye. High kick from the Dutchman. Hardonk lands with a combo. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 Barry.
Round 2 Logan does the honors. Barry with a switch kick. Leg kicks from Hardonk. Hardonk with punches. Barry backs him up. Barry tags Hardonk with punches. Drops Hardonk! Hardonk back up. Barry with his arms at his waist, baiting Hardonk. Side kick from Barry. Hardonk tries for a takedown. Gets stuffed. Barry tags with a jab. Another. Another. A left straight. Another. Drops Hardonk again! Pat Barry by TKO.
Ryan Bader vs Eric "Red" Schafer Round 1 Bader takes the center of the cage. Lots of feints on the feet. Some jabs. Wild hooks missing for both fighters. Ugly fight so far. Bader lands a body shot with nothing on it. Bader runs across the cage and tags Schafer with a hook. Drops him. Bader battering Schafer from the top. Schafer stands. Bader slams him! Schafer back up and Bader ragdolls him down. Bader on top punching, Schafer turtled up. Schafer working for a kimura with no position, Bader evades but winds up in guard. Schafer threatens with an omaplata but Bader escapes and stays on top. Bader stands to end the round. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 for Ryan Bader.
Round 2 More noncommittal exchanges on the feet before Bader gets poked in the eye. Schafer with a hook. Schafer stepping forward. Bader tags him. Schafer firing more jabs. Lands a right. Bader with a left. This is ugly. Not even bad kickboxing, it's just bad boxing. Bader with a body shot. Bader with a left hook. Schafer clips Bader with a looping right. Bader lands a hard counter right. Another. Schafer with a combo. Bader with a left kick. Bader tries a takedown, gets stuffed. Schafer with a right. Bader shoots, Schafer stuffs him and goes for a guillotine. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 Eric Schafer.
Round 3 It's anybody's fight. Bader lunges with a hook and drops Schafer. Follows him down and is scoring with ground and pound. Schafer manages to tie up Bader in his guard. Bader backs up and out of guard. Schafer is bleeding. They check Schafer's cuts but let him continue. More sloppy boxing exchanges. Schafer stares at the clock. Bader wings another hook and misses. Bader scores with a jab. Bader shoots in and gets a takedown. He gets to side control. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 for Ryan Bader. The judges agree Ryan Bader wins a unanimous decision.
Anthony "Rumble" Johnson vs Yoshiyuko "Zenko" Yoshida Round 1 MMA legend Yuki Nakai and Greg Jackson in Yoshida's corner. Cung Le and Josh "The Punk" Thomson in Anthony Johnson's corner. Johnson has eight angry inches of reach advantage. Refereee Steve Mazzagatti rocking black latex gloves. Round 1 Yoshida staying well back of Johnson's range. Johnson scoring with hooks. WOW. Johnson Knocks out Yoshiyuki Yoshida.
Joe Stevenson vs Spencer Fisher Round 1 Spencer Fisher does an excellent job of touting his sponsors including TapOut and CondomDepot.com. Joe Stevenson in a Dethrone shirt and Greg Jackson in his corner. Round 1 Fisher doesn't want to touch gloves. Trade leg kicks. Fisher lands a punch. Stevenson lands a hard left hook. Stevenson trading stances. Nice footwork from both fighters. Fisher already bleeding above his right eye. Stevenson shoots, Fisher sprawls. Stevenson forces it to the fence, working for a double leg. Fisher bleeding into his eye. Stevenson lifts Fisher but can't get him down. They're locked in over-unders against the fence. Herb Dean breaks them up. Fisher with leg kicks. Stevenson lands an elbow to the eye. They trade, Fisher scores. Stevenson gets behind him and gets Fisher down. Battering Fisher from the top. Stevenson pounding Fisher as the bell rings. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 for Joe Stevenson.
Round 2 More nice footwork from both fighters. Stevenson gets a takedown in center ring. Fisher with closed guard. Stevenson with some ground and pound. Fisher throwing elbows from bottom. Stevenson drops back for a leg lock. Gives it up quickly. Stevenson to 1/2 guard and mount! Stevenson gets back to 1/2 guard. Stevenson dropping elbows. Lots of blood coming from Fisher's cut. Stevenson to side control. Gets a crucifix. Barrage of elbows. Herb Dean stops the fight. Joe Stevenson by TKO.
Yushin Okami vs Chael Sonnen Round 1 Sonnen shoots. Okami stuffs it. Okami puts Sonnen against the fence. Sonnen gets a high crotch and takes him down. They're up and Sonnen throws him from the back. Okami back up, Sonnen still on his back. Foot stomps from Sonnen. Okami with wrist control. They separate. Both fighters are southpaws. High kick from Sonnen. They exchange. Both scoring. Sonnen with a leg kick. Nice standing exchanges. No one really getting the better of it. Sonnen with a single leg takedown. Okami in guard. Okami back to his feet. Sonnen with a hard left. Sonnen getting the better of some brisk exchanges. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 Sonnen.
Round 2 Okami tags Sonnen with a hard shot. Very brisk pace. Sonnen with a double leg. Okami gets away. Sonnen almost takes his shorts down from the back. Sonnen has Okami's back standing, throwing knees to the thighs and footstomping. Sonnen pulls him down. Okami back to his feet. More exchanges. Okami scores but so does Sonnen. Okami with a hard shot that is quickly answered. Okami with a hard right. Sonnen retaliates. Good exchanges. Pace slowing a bit because of more missed punches from both men. Sonnen catches a leg and tags with a right. Good left by Sonnen. Sonnen throwing Okami off his stalking game by pressuring him. Sonnen with a left. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 for Chael Sonnen.
Round 3 More good exchanges. Sonnen with a kick. They're still trading, nothing big scoring but both fighters getting their licks in. Advantage Sonnen. Sonnen shoots, gets a throw, slams Okami on his belly. Gets his back, has hooks in. Okami gets one hook out. Both hooks come out. Okami stands up. Sonnen has his back standing. Landing knees to the thighs. Foot stomp. Okami working for a kimura. They fall to the ground, Okami still has the kimura and full guard. Okami lets it go. Sonnen gets wrist control. Battering Okami from the top. Okami stands up but Sonnen stays in back control and throws Okami as the bell rings. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 for Chael Sonnen and the fight 30-27 for Chael Sonnen. The judges agree, Chael Sonnen by Unanimous decision.
Josh Neer vs Gleison Tibau Tibau comes in to Black Sabbath's "Iron Man." Tibau looks huge. Rosenthal is the ref. Round 1 Tibau comes out southpaw. Tibau slams him down. Gets sidecontrol but Neer quickly establishes guard. Right back up. Neer with a leg kick. Another. Tibau shoots and slams him again. Neer with guard. Tibau stands but back to guard. Back up. Neer gets tagged, drops his mouthpiece. Tibau drives thru for another slam. Neer throws him off. Back to the feet. Neer with a front kick. They're trading. Tibau with yet another slamdown. Neer gets butterfly guard. Neer stands. Tibau with a guillotine but Neer is out. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 Tibau.
Round 2 Tibau with an immediate slam. Back to the feet. Neer forcing him back.Tibau with another takedown. Neer back up. Neer coming forward. Again with the takedown. Neer defending on the ground. Tibau gets full mount. Neer rolls and gives up his back. Neer to his feet. Tibau is high. Going for a kimura. Tibau slides to arm bar. Neer escapes, gets on top. Tibau to his feet. Neer coming forward. Tibau is gassed. Neer tags him. Uppercut from Neer. Tibau shoots, can't get it. Exchanges with Neer scoring. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 Tibau but the momentum is with Neer.
Round 3 Neer coming forward. Tibau with a double leg takedown. Tibau to 1/2 guard. Neer back to full guard. Back to the feet. Tibau thowing and landing. Neer with an elbow. Stuffs a takedown. Front kick from Neer. Neer is tired too. Another takedown stuffed. Uppercut from Neer. Another stuffed Tibau takedown. Nice head movement from Tibau evades lots of Neer punches. Tibau gets a knee tap takedown. Back to the feet. Timeout to fix the tape on Neer's gloves. Leg kick from Neer. Checked leg kick by Tibau. Neer limping. Another double leg from Tibau. Most dominating wrestling performance I can recall in a fight. Back to the feet. Tibau with a punch. Shoots, gets a knee tap takedown. Neer standing to end the fight. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 Tibau. 30-27 on the Bloody Elbow scorecard. The judges agree, unanimous decision for Tibau.
Ben Rothwell vs Cain Velasquez Red Schafer and Pat Barry both sporting black eyes in Rothwell's corner. Velasquez comes out to mariachi music. Velasquze in a signature Dethrone shirt. Big crowd pop for Cain. Round 1 Rothwell tags him. Cain with some kicks, shoots for a single, gets it with a trip. Rothwell working to his feet but Cain keeps him down. Rothwell gets up and gets free. Cain tags him. Rothwell with an uppercut. Leg kick from Cain, shoots for a single, dumps him right down. GnP from Cain. Works for a crucifix then to north-south. Back to side mount. Rothwell back to his feet, throwing. Another takedown from Cain. Velasquez raining blows down on Rothwell. Rothwell breathing heavy. Cain gets mount. Rothwell back to guard. Pays for it. Velasquez passes to full mount. Lays a beating down. Rothwell gets out, rolls, Cain gets his back. Rothwell stands, Cain throws him down. Cain pounding on the ground. Rothwell's jock strap showing. Yuck. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-8 Velasquez.
Round 2 Mazzagatti warns Rothwell he'll stop the fight if he takes hard shots. Cain with a takedown. Hard punches from Velasquez. Rothwell tries to escape. Velasquez traps the arm and batters Rothwell. Mazzagatti steps in early while Rothwell is trying to escape! Cain Velasquez by TKO.
Big John McCarthy would not have blown that call. Cain Velasquez agrees that the fight was stopped early.
Lyoto Machida vs Mauricio "Shogun" Andre Dida and Murilo "Ninja" Rua in Shogun's corner. Machida comes out to some traditional Japanese music that becomes Linkin Park. Machida comes out in s SilverStar and Lugz gi over a SilverStar t-shirt. The UFC's moron graphics team spells "Elusive" as "Allusive", no Ivy Leaguers on that crew. Machida looking cocky in the corner. Herb Dean is the ref. Round 1 Shogun misses a kick, they clinch and Machida scores with knees.Shogun covering and charging in. Shoots,eats some knees, pushes Machida to the fence. Shogun's back is covered with boils. Machida gets free. Side kick from Lyoto. Shogun with inside leg kick. Shogun tries a takedown, Machida stuffs it. Machida with his back to the fence, gets free. Both men have marked flanks from knees. Shogun with spinning kick. Shogun lands kick as Machida comes in. Shogun refusing to let Machida control the cage. Stalking the champ. Shogun with a leg kick. Shogun lands a sharp right hand counter. Shogun has really studied Machida's game. Shogun with another kick. Machida is limping. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 for Shogun Rua. The first time Machida has lost a round in the UFC.
Machida's brother ices his hamstrings between rounds.
Round 2 Shogun and Machida aggressively trade feints. Shogun refuses to let Lyoto control the rhythm. Machida with a combo of punches. Scores. Machida scores with a leg kick. Machida lands a knee as Shogun shoots. Machida escapes. Machida switches stances. Goes for a trip, Shogun recovers. Shogun lands a body kick. Machida with a body kick. Hard round to score. Shogun with a body kick that hurts Lyoto. Machida with a left. Shogun scores with a knee. Machida is black and blue on his left ribs. They end against the fence with Shogun controlling the clinch. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-10.
Round 3 Shogun stalking the champ. Legs a side kick. Machida lands punch. Really nice exchange. Machida switches stances. Body kick by the champ. Shogun fires and misses. Shogun cracks with a leg kick. Shogun shoots. Elbow to the champ's head on the break. Leg kick by Shogun. Machida eats another leg kick but responds. Shogun with a huge body kick. Shogun chases with strikes, Machida can't counter. Machida with body kick. Knee by the champ. Machida with punches. Has Shogun stunned. Shogun lands back. Shogun clinches. Bloody Elbow scores this 10-9 Shogun Rua.
Round 4 Shogun has refused to let Lyoto control the rhythm of the fight. This is a great fight! Trading leg kicks. Shogun is playing the lead in the footwork dance but looking for Lyoto's "kyo" and counter striking. Machida slips and Shogun shoots. They are in countering high crotch lifts. Back to the feet. Machida with a flurry in response to a leg kick but Shogun with a knee. Leg kick, punch trade. They clinch. Shogun lands an elbow as they break. Knee by Shogun. Punch by Shogun. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 Shogun.
Round 5 Shogun with a leg kick. Machida charges but gets nothing. Shogun pressing with a body kick. Machida punches to counter. Shogun HURTS the champ with a leg kick. Shogun catches a kick. They trade leg kicks. Shogun charges behind punches. Machida staggers due to battered legs. Knee to the liver from Machida doesn't seem to phase Shogun. They clinch. Knees to the legs from Shogun. Dean breaks them up. Shogun counters a knee to the body with several punches. Shogun advancing behind punches. Machida's lip is bloody and swollen as the Machida era bleeds away. Shogun ends the fight with a left. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 Shogun. Final score 50-46 Shogun.

I’m just saying no one should be surprised. This happens all of the time in boxing. Champ loses what seems to be a close fight, but keeps the belt. It’s not right, but it happens. A lot.

I agree with you that Rogan and Goldie took on a bias towards shogun. They never gave machida credit for landed the right while eating a leg kick, but I still think shogun won.

Ill correct myself, too much money on the line for shogun to win a close decision. The payouts would have been nuts. There was little to no money to be made on machida, but tons on Shogun. Judges know the lines. I dont want to make it seem like the fights is fixed, but in the back of their minds is whos supposed to win.

I was on board with muting the fight for Akiyama/Belcher, because Rogan had obvious bias there that went beyond having a mere favorite in the fight. He was buddy-buddy with Belcher outside of MMA.
This time it makes no sense. Rogan was calling the more damaging shots. Yes, he missed many of Lyoto’s but that was only because Shogun was landing simultaneously and inflicting more damage.

I would have hated to score that fight
I had Shogun but that really could have gone either way. Shogun looked better at the end though.

Yep, this wasn’t a robbery at all. Close fight that could have gone either way, I’ll be interested to see which rounds the judges gave Machida. None of the first three rounds were definitive.

No they’re not, I’m not a great judge, because I was nodding on and off throughout the fight. But there were a few times where rogan would scream about Shogun doing something, so I would open my eyes and see him get punched in the face, and then they wouldn’t mention it.
It was a close fight, but the commentary was definitely biased.
Bias implies that the announcers have a favorite or rooting interest in the fight. Shogun was landing the harder shots for most of the fight. It just so happens that when Machida was landing his hardest shots, Shogun was throwing his hardest as the exact same time. So, Rogan went with who did more damage.

Rogan and Goldberg, for all their enthusiasm, are not really great at covering most fights objectively or incisively, including tonight’s title bout.

As I said, Rogan was simply siding with who was landing the cleaner, more damaging shots because both fighters were often throwing strikes at the same time.

That’s shit.
It’s the problem with mma commentating, there are lots of times where both fighters are throwing shots at the same time, but due to the announcers only having one mouth, they can only mention one person. More often than not, Rogan manages to to always end up calling the exchanges for one fighter for the whole fight.
It’s a hard thing to do, but it happens.
Shogun was one dimensional with no explosive strikes. Too cautious. Machida mixed it up more. IMO

I’m a Machida fan and even I think Shogun got screwed. Machida gets to keep the paper title but Shogun should be ranked #1 in the division.

That the fight would have been that close even though Machida won in the clinch and was impossible to take down. The two things everybody expected to be Rua’s only advantages. Either way the decision went, this definitely changes the way people will look at Machida.
A lot of people jumped on the “Machida is Unstoppable” bandwagon once he won that title, now looks like a lot of people are jumping off of it after this fight.

How did Machida win in the clinch? He did virtually nothing in the clinch except expertly block a couple of takedowns. Other than that, he was taking a steady stream of knees to the thighs from Shogun.

He gave Shogun some knees to the body from the clinch in the first couple rounds. As the fight progressed Rua started to work the inside of the thighs more. Once in the fifth I think it was he landed a knee to the head. I feel like he definitely one in the clinch in the first couple rounds.
Right at the beginning of the 1st round Machida had a MT clinch and was landing knees. But after that, whenever there was a clinch up against the cage, Shogun was clearly getting the best of it.

I have to say that I had it scored 48-47 for Shogun, but I think round one was very very close. Using the 10 point must system, I don’t see how you can call it a “robbery.”

every time a decision is made when cecil peoples is a judge, there is some kind of asshattery that leaves us WTF’ing…maybe he influenced the other 2 judges. i dont believe for one second that close rounds go to the champ just because he is the champ and NEEDS to be beaten….even dana white looked upset when he shook machida’s hand after the fight, like someone just pee’d in his cereal…
