DREAM.12 Weigh-in Results

DEEP lightweight ace Katsunori Kikuno and Bellator champ Eddie Alvarez square off in the white cage tomorrow in Osaka. Photo via DREAM.

The weigh-ins for DREAM.12 just wrapped up in Osaka and nearly all fighters made weight - the lone exception being Korean lightweight "Parky," a.k.a. Won-Sik Park, who's been given one hour to shed an extra kilogram and make the 70kg (154 lbs) limit.

Event producer Keiichi Sasahara was in attendance and discussed the white cage:

It will not be metal, it’ll be some advanced material for durability that is also used for tuna and yellow tail cultivation... He says that it’s impact absorbability [sic] is excellent.

Apparently the guy in charge of some net manufacturer was a PRIDE fan by chance so they stopped all other work to work on the net of the white cage. The color of the net is beige.

More photos (via DREAM) in the extended entry.

Make sure to join us tomorrow at 2 AM Eastern, right after UFC 104, for live discussion and play-by-play.

Getting that ol’ losing feeling for Zaromskis here.

This shirt is "dry clean only", which means it's dirty.

Another pointless match for Overeem

Look I’m sure he is a great fighter but exactly who has he faced at hw to call him top 10. Yes he was destroying Cro Cop and he would have won that fight but everybody knows Cro Cop hasnt been the same since Gonzaga ko’d him.

Hopefully this is the last match overseas and we get to see him vs. Fedor, him vs. Werdum(assuming he beats Silva), and him vs. Rogers(assuming Rogers doesnt look god awful against Fedor)

It’s awesome that this on just a few hours after UFC 104 probably just stay up and watch both.

Overeem isn’t listed in anyone’s ‘Top 10’, and he’s already said 2010 he’ll be fighting in America as his main focus is k-1 right now.

by CSKit on Oct 24, 2009 5:31 AM EDT up reply actions

I’ve seen him ranked in a couple top 10 lists. Fight magazine for one, but he should be in every top 10 list because you couldn’t name 10 better heavyweights unless you are lying to yourself.

Yeah because beating Paul Buentello in 2007 makes you ‘Top Ten’ let me refresh your memory, below are his opponents at HW:

Tony Sylvester
Gary Goodridge
Mark Hunt
Tae Hyun Lee
Paul Buentello

Cro-Cop was a NC regardless of how the fight was going. You should stop “lying to yourself” he’s not ‘Top Ten’.

The above

were his wins, no need to post his losses.

by CSKit on Oct 24, 2009 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Mark Hunt could be considered a decent win, considering Hunt beat Cro Cop near the height of Mirko’s heavyweight reign of terror (after losing to Fedor and subsequently beating Barnett for the second time), and at that point his only losses since his MMA debut were to Barnett and Fedor, which are the kinds of losses that can’t adversely affect one’s ranking too much.

That said, he’s not in my top 10. I’d put him at #16.

Being top 10 at HW isn’t like being top 10 in other divisions, half the list changes every quarter. Overeem’s displayed excellent striking and good grappling, that’s enoguh for me to consider him top 10 even without big MMA wins. It’d be a different story if the division was brimming with talent.

is that fool gonna fight in his kendo kashin mask?

on some ol’ Dos Caras Jr. shit, ha.

Also their stances in that picture are hilarious.

Please to god I hope he wears the Kendo Kashin mask.

for all intents and purposes, just consider all my posts as works of satire.

I think so..

He came in overweight and offered to remove his underwear instead of the mask, so I think it’s safe to say he’ll be “on some ol’ Dos Caras Jr. shit”.

=) I’m going to have to nap this afternoon to stay up for all this…

Yeah I’ll be napping later on too. Gonna watch 104 replay at 1am after this Halloween party I gotta go to. Then on to DREAM12! I really hope the cage is a hit for DREAM.

What a glorious day!

Eddie looks skinny as fuck compared to when he was on bully beatdown.

Eddie looks REALLY slim now! Like he has an hourglass type figure, his sides are sucked in very much. Is that healthy?

Doubt it. It does look a little crazy. He probably just needs to rehydrate,

His cut won’t hurt his liver as much as Kikuno will.

by omigawda on Oct 24, 2009 3:51 PM EDT up reply actions

I wonder why he is having such a hard cut. I remember him being a very undersized welterweight, he said he did’nt even need to cut to make welter. I thought he would be able to make light weight easy.

Why the hell does Park get 1 hour to make weight when Sakurai got 8?

by omigawda on Oct 24, 2009 12:07 PM EDT reply actions

Park said he only needed and hour and apologized for missing weight on the first try. No biggie.

by Chris Nelson on Oct 24, 2009 3:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I see. No update since so hopefully there isn’t an issue.

Thompson 20lbs. heavier than when he fought in EliteXC.
He’ll be an even easier target for Overeem to blow away with punches.

The EP is Sasahara, tomorrow 『DREAM.12』 used in the cage for comment. EP Sasahara said the cage is hexagonal “is the largest total area of the world,” he says. A net cage is “The Matrix” material that is used, “The material is also used for farming, such as tuna and yellowtail are excellent durability. That is used in other events,” wire "rather than and looks soft, "he explained.

So the white cage is made of netting, interesting.

Ok it says that in the article, I should probably have read that bit.
