Scrolling down this page, I saw the first line of your post, and I knew immediately who wrote it. : )

Have you heard if they’re using Big John or any other real ref in the game?

by midwestbred on Oct 24, 2009 12:21 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Haven’t heard anything about refs.

How many weight classes are they doing Supremacy?

So what do u think MMASUP , probably the most important fight for Fedor in the last 5 years no ? I mean , a loss here can ruin his potential in America , can damage the game sales , and maybe not ruin Strikeforce but definitely hold them back .
Fedor needs to win this one..!

by JoelMan on Oct 24, 2009 8:35 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Eh, I don’t think of it that way. I think everyone will be fine. GSP, Couture, Chuck, Lesnar, everyone loses.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Oct 24, 2009 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fedor would be okay i guess,

but it would be a huge blow for strikeforce.. The UFC was okay cause when the guys you mentioned lost, they still got tons of guys who could carry a PPV..

Fedor isn’t even a proven PPV draw, a loss would hurt his drawing powers i think.. It would kinda damage his image and mystique, being marketed as the best and (sorta) undefeated HW in the planet.

but of course, at this point in his career, Fedor doesn’t have much to prove anyway.. (but i still want to see him against overeem then brock)

by Anton Tabuena on Oct 24, 2009 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fedor is fighting on CBS, not PPV.
=)

by MMASuPreMaCy on Oct 24, 2009 4:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

and what’s your point? I was talking about his drawing powers hence the term “PPV draw”…

the point still stands, a loss would damage his drawing power even more since he is being marketed solely because of the mystique of being the best in the world.

Machida

Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.

by ufc4 on Oct 24, 2009 3:14 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

This is an ignorant assumption…

If Fedor loses the small cult like fanbase will disapear and any hope of making him a star in the US will be gone. It’s one thing to lose to Brock but its a whole other ball game losing to some tire mechanic.

Strikeforce loses and Fedor Loses. Fedor will lose his negotiating position and Strikeforce will lose their claim of having the best Heavyweight.

UFC can build and re-build stars so the comparison to GSP, couture, Chuck, etc… is silly… They all had established fanbases in the US before they lost.

by mmalogic on Oct 24, 2009 3:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Why call Rogers a tire mechanic really? It’s just childish.
I assume then you think Brock is defending his title against an engineer?

by scrambledeggs on Oct 24, 2009 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He is.

A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.

by iiowyn on Oct 24, 2009 4:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He’s a “tire mechanic” in that nobody knows who the hell he is.

by mmalogic on Oct 24, 2009 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s a weak argument. Really how many MMA Fighters are household names?

by scrambledeggs on Oct 24, 2009 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Will Carwin be a star if he beats Brock? YES

Now ask yourself:

Will Bret Rogers be a star if he beats Fedor?

In case you answer yes to the second question: then tell me to whom?

And dont say “hardcores” because if they dictated the market Affliction, Elite xc, and ever other org would still be in business.

He’ll just be a guy who beat up a doughy looking Russian.

Will Carwin be a star if he beats Brock? YES

One can hope he will become as big of a star as Frank Mir.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Oct 24, 2009 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Frank Mir vs Big Nog 1m plus buys.

by mmalogic on Oct 24, 2009 6:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Plus Rashard vs Griffin and Rampage vs Wanderlie. He had a lot of help there.

by nottheface on Oct 24, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Carwin is the Engineer that no one knows who still works about 24 hours a week as an engineer. Last I checked, Rogers hasn’t been a “tire mechanic” for a while.
=)

I have to disagree. Fedor will always have his fans, just like GSP kept his after losing to Serra, etc. He can easily get an instant rematch against whoever beats him and it will be a blockbuster fight.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Oct 24, 2009 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol, if Fedor had fans Pride, Bodog and Affliction would still be in business. When you’re fans dont pay the bills to begin with on what planet will a rematch be a blockbuster?

by mmalogic on Oct 24, 2009 6:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So what do u think MMASUP , probably the most important fight for Fedor in the last 5 years no ? I mean , a loss here can ruin his potential in America , can damage the game sales , and maybe not ruin Strikeforce but definitely hold them back .
Fedor needs to win this one..!

A loss against any of his last whatever many opponents would have severely damaged his potential marketability. He has an incredible aura about him because he’s never really lost despite fighting so many top fighters (in addition to the mismatched cans he’s fought). A loss against Hong Man Choi for instance, would have done far more damage to Fedor’s reputation than a loss against Brett Rogers will.

I would say both of his previous two fights were more important than this one is. His fight against Tim Sylvia was his first fight against a top competitor in several years, and a former UFC Champion at that. His fight against Arlovski was a fight between the two fighters ranked #1 and #2 in the world at the time, and again it was against a former UFC Champion, this time one on a five-fight win streak.

Sure this fight is important to the video game he’s going to be in, but chances are Brett Rogers will be in it too, so I don’t know if it will damage sales that much, but I don’t know if potential game sales should be any sort of serious barometer for how “important” a match is.

You can make the claim that this match is extremely important because it’s going to be on CBS, but would this match even be a headliner CBS if Fedor hadn’t stayed on top for so long? At the same time, no matter which way this match goes it’s not going to make or break StrikeForce. If Fedor loses, StrikeForce suddenly has a huge homegrown star in Brett Rogers.

Basically I don’t see where you’re coming from.

by Chromium on Oct 24, 2009 5:37 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

A loss would not hurt Strikeforce at all. They are not putting all their eggs in the Fedor basket. Truth be told, Rogers is regular fighter on their roster. A win by him may well help them more than a win by Fedor would.

Certainly they could build up the rematch for a ppv.

Wing’s list is those that have been comfirmed. Any other name is speculation at this point.

Obviously plenty more will be announced, but those are the one that EA has confirmed.

by Lynchman on Oct 24, 2009 9:27 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

My list are the ones that are real and confirmed, just that not officially announced by EA.

I’d like to see Rogers and Overeem in there…and maybe a few more international fighters (maybe from Japan) so they can sell this game to broader audiences…how about Sakuraba and all the legends like Bas Rutten etc…

by JoelMan on Oct 24, 2009 2:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I thought Bas already said he would be in the game on Inside mma a few weeks back…

Bas said he’s going to be in the game. Don’t know if he said it on Inside MMA.

Bas is in the game. I keep forgetting to add him.

Oh, and the game will be worldwide. Not just American fighters.

off topic but I wish EA would make a CFL game, it’d be fun to play a videogame with all the players not good enough to be in the NFL…
