Dana "fedor should be fighting Brock Lesnar " that way if Brock wins i can i say i got the best fighter and not strikeforce.

If Fedor was fighting Brock then that would mean that Fedor had signed with the UFC. Thus they could claim they had the best fighter regardless of the outcome.

Ya but as much as dana hates fedor he sure as hell doesn’t want him to lose before he signs with the UFC. Fedor losing would be flushing millions down the toilet

My point is dana wants Fedor to lose but only in the UFC to one of his fighters. That way he can say i told you so to all the media and fans who have been bugging him all the way back to pride and before. Fedor signing with the UFC would be nice to Dana. Fedor signing to the UFC and failing would be even better.

Dana wants to get Fedor, and you are right that Dana would be ecstatic if he came to the UFC and lost. But it’s a lot cheaper and easier if Fedor loses outside of the UFC.
Why do you think they released Sylvia? People thought Sylvia had a chance. From Dana’s perspective, it’s a lot better to get someone else to pay Sylvia 800k to beat Fedor than for him to have to pay Fedor millions to come to the UFC and lose. Someone paying Rogers 200k to beat Fedor is even better.

Nobody likes Sylvia, that’s why they let him go. Since he lost the title and wasn’t a draw, there was no reason for the UFC to match what Affliction wanted to pay him.

It would be flushing more money down the toilet for Fedor.
That would be a big fight because the UFC made it one. They can still make a bunch of money with Brock fighting anyone.

Using Machida – Rua as an example of how the best fight the best in the UFC is silly. I agree that Shogun is fighting the best but Lyoto definitely isn’t.
I like Shogun but beating the versions of Liddell and Coleman that he did does not make him the no.2 man in the world at 205.

Would you have Lyoto fight himself?
Titles are better being defended. Shogun is the highest ranked fighter not booked up or coming off a defeat against Lyoto.

Hence why I used the past tense...
At the time everything was being scheduled, Jackson chose Evans for the bigger payday. So, the UFC heads picked Shogun to fight Machida. Given the circumstances, they made the best decision possible. I doubt they suspected Rampage would bail on them for a film career – we’re having the benefit of hindsight.
Besides, even if Jackson is free to fight now, what do you want to do? Pull Shogun out 11th-Hour for Quinton?

No you’re right. It made a lot of sense to make this fight.
I just meant that it isn’t the best example Dana could’ve used to show how the best fight the best in the UFC. Regardless of how Shogun’s ranked he really hasn’t looked great.
This is definitely going to be a problem for them going forward because they made him fight so much before giving him a shot at the title. Most of the obvious, big money match-ups for Lyoto will be rematches with people he’s already beaten.
by goo on Oct 23, 2009 10:08 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Huh?
Shogun was ranked #1 prior to the Griffin fight. That loss didn’t drop him THAT much, and he hasn’t been beaten since then. Meanwhile, all the guys above him have lost recently (and Rampage has ‘retired’ for the time being).
Shogun has as a good an argument for the #2 ranking as anyone else. Rashad is the only guy who might have a better argument in his favor.

…maybe it’s for service to the casual " I wanna see a big KO, not all these men rolling around in their panties" fans.
I’d like to see this wind up on the ground at some point to…just to see if Lyoto will be as dominating on the ground as he is on his feet.

I agree, Brett is pretty easy to take down (Thompson fight , Abongo fight…) , he succeeded to get right back up but try doing that against Fedor … not so sure it’s gonna work . Fedor is stronger than those guys and has better wrestling , take downs and control .
So basically Fedor can probably take Brett down and keep him there , in my humble opinion.
Standing up I don’t know what’s gonna happen , despite the flashy KO it’s still safer to bet Fedor’s technique is superior … but maybe not by much . It’s actually quite a risk for Fedor to stand with Rogers.

You can’t say the fighter is not worthy in one sentence then say in the next he has a chance beat him. That is a contradiciton if I ever heard one.
A contradiction is when you make two statements that disagree with each other. Like “I have never been to France. I lived in Paris for 8 years.” There is nothing contradictory about saying that a fighter is not worthy and saying he could knockout his opponent. For example:
1. Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, is not a worthy opponent to fight Fedor, the greatest heavyweight ever.
2. If Anthony “Rumble” Johnson can hit Fedor cleanly on the chin, he has the power to knock him out.
If you really believe that there is an inherent conflict between saying a fighter who’s not worthy has a chance to win, then which of those two statements do you disagree with?
by Jahbulon on Oct 23, 2009 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well he also refers to Brock Lesnar as the other best heavyweight when as of now the only thing really known about Lesnar as a fighter is he likes to takes guys down and ground & pound. Yet he’s been hyped as an unstoppable force, because he’s beat up Frank Mir which has happened several times and pounded out a geriatric Randy Couture after clipping him with a punch.
It’s just hype.

I think it’s a little funny that Dana always gives out about Fedor being ranked so highly despite fighting such lowly-ranked fighters but there’s no question that if Fedor signed he’d get an immediate shot at the title, bypassing any number of legitimate contenders.

Brett Rogers could knock out Fedor 10 times in a row and I still wouldn’t consider him the best HW in the world. He’s nothing but a hyper-aggressive brawler.
Fedor’s status would surely take a big hit, though. Because, really, there’s no reason why Fedor can’t just out-fox Rogers with relative ease.
Fedor losing would be rough, but the worst part of it would be having to listen to Gus Johnson scream about Rocky over and over and over and over again. I like a lot Gus when he is calling the NCAA tourney, but he just seems so out of place and hokey on the mic for MMA broadcasts.
