Strikeforce Has A Better Middleweight Division
There. I said it.
This is not about a post about anybody in Strikeforce being able to fight Anderson Silva, because nobody can. But for all the lack of depth that Strikeforce is dealing with, one division that is stacked (relative to the company) is the middleweights. So if Dan Henderson is looking for good fights and a good payday plus national attention by fighting on basic cable, perhaps him going to Strikeforce isn't such a bad idea. Here are the best Strikeforce middleweights and fights who can make middleweight:
- Jake Sheilds
- Robbie Lawler
- Frank Shamrock
- Cung Le
- Jason Miller
- Jacere Souza
- Joey Villasenoir
- Nick Diaz
- Scott Smith
- Cyborg Santos
And nevermind some of the light heavyweights like Gergard Moussasi and Renato Sobral that could also fight. You could even find a catchweight with Fedor if you reall wanted too. This perhaps isn't the top five of the middleweight divison, but guys like Sheilds, Diaz, and even Lawler are top ten middleweights while guys like Mayhem, Viallsenoir, Le , and Smith could make for some really exciting fights.
Perhaps Anderson Silva is Henderson's White Whale and he can't get past it, but you could make the argument that the top middleweights of Strikeforce are just as good the top fights in the UFC except for Silva and maybe Nate The Great. I am actually pretty bully on the idea of Hendo going to Striekforce, I think we could really get soem fresh and exciting matchups. Hendo has run his course in the UFC if he wasn't willing to fight Marquardt. He fought Rampage, Silva, Pahalres, Franklin, Bisping . . . other than Marquardt there was nothing really left for him and if Dana White won't give him Silva he should jump.

Hahaha
UFC has 8 of the top 10. I don’t really care to make more of a case than that, because this is so far off. Sorry hombre..
I STILL poop rainbows.
Hmmmm
Lol @ Shields being a MW
Lol @ Lawler who lost to a WW
Lol @ Braces
Lol @ Cung Le fighting ever again
I could go on
UFC MW>SF MW
In fairness he did say “fighter’s who can make middleweight”. So in that case the UFC’s MW division includes GSP, Alves, Hughes, and BJ Penn. I’ll take the UFC’s.
Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.

If Hendo went to Strikeforce then it would be comparable. Not as good, but comparable. Unfortunately the wrinkle in this plan is that the only reason Hendo fights at MW is a chance to face Anderson Silva again. So Hendo would add nothing to Strikeforce’s mw picture. He’d definitely help out it’s LHW ranks (if anyone would fight him)
Still no
Anderson Silva, Nate Marquardt, Yushin Okami, Demian Maia, Vitor Belfort, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Alan Belcher, Chael Sonnen, Patrick Cote, Nate Quarry, Denis Kang, Michael Bisping, Wanderlei Silva, Goran Reljic, Wilson Gouveia, James Irvin, Mark Munoz, Dan Miller…. Seriously?

Shit, I even forgot Toquinho
EGAD! Who knows who else I’m missing.. This is kind of a silly argument.
I STILL poop rainbows.
Remember we are leaving out Anderson. So I would say Hendo, Jake Shields, Paulo Filho (in Japan), Jorge Santiago (remember he can fight with Strikeforce), and Renaldo Souza is comparable to Nate Marquardt, Yushin Okami, Demian Maia, Vitor Belfort and Yoshihiro Akiyama. Not as good, but not too far behind, either.
And Alan Belcher, Chael Sonnen, Patrick Cote, Nate Quarry, Denis Kang, Michael Bisping, Wanderlei Silva, Goran Reljic, Wilson Gouveia, James Irvin, Mark Munoz, Dan Miller is not that much better than Robbie Lawler, Scott Smith, Tim Kennedy (way underrated), Jason Miller, Melvin Manhoef, Matt Lindand, Joey Villasenoir and Nick Diaz. You noticed I didn’t say Frank Shamrock.
You paralleled 8 guys with my 13 (should be 14 w/my inclusion of Toquinho)
Jorge Santiago is in Sengoku, the other guys (particularly the DREAM d00dz) are being shared between two whole promotions and won’t always fight in SF, and Shields is a WW. And we can’t suddenly bunch Hendo in w/SF when we’re already being liberal in so many other ways.
Nah man… No dice.
I STILL poop rainbows.
Remember I said
If Hendo went to Strikeforce
and that
excluding Anderson Silva from the UFC’s roster
and that would make it
Not as good, but comparable
And Jorge and Dream fighters count. Even if they have trouble booking them they’re listed as possible opponents.
If they get Hendo, If they get the DREAM fighters, IF there's no Anderson Silva, IF Dana White sold the UFC to the Shaws. IF the UFC hires Kimbo Slice as matchmaker, IF half of the UFC MWs retire, IF Brock Lesnar cuts of a limb and goes to SF,
then Maybe…

com·pa·ra·ble (kŏm’pər-ə-bəl)
adj.
Admitting of comparison with another or others: “The satellite revolution is comparable to Gutenberg’s invention of movable type” (Irvin Molotsky).
Similar or equivalent: pianists of comparable ability.
Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.
And “not as good but comparable” makes no sense when comparable MEANS as good.
Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.

Not necessarily. All comparable means is that something is able to be compared to something else or is similar to. It is generally acceptable to use the word comparable when making a comparison to groups or people who are at least close enough that comparison makes sense. We could say “Clyde Drexler is comparable to Michael Jordan” if we were talking about tall shooting guards that could penetrate and shoot outside, even though Jordan is definitely the better of the two. Or even better we could say “the weather in Minneapolis is comparable to Moscow” even though Moscow is a daily 4 degrees cooler on average. We wouldn’t say “no Moscow is colder” because the comparison is close enough that it is apt. Thus with Strikeforce and the UFC (after all my caveats had been added – see above)
you just made the argument for why you are wrong. Clyde Drexler is NOT COMPARABLE to michealer jordan because MJ is so much better than drexler, thus not being equal.
you can say the weather in moscow and minneapolis is comparable becuase they are virtually the same.
But you are mistaken, I did not say Drexler is comparable to Michael Jordan is skill, I said he was comparable
if we were talking about tall shooting guards that could penetrate and shoot outsidein other words their style of play in the game. If I said Drexler has comparable skills to Michael Jordan then you could argue I was wrong (unless I was a big Trailblazer fan in which case I would just be in denial).
You get away with saying the Lakers organization is comparable to the Celtics even though the Celtics have won 17 to 10 in titles, but the Lakers have such a storied program that many would find the comparison apt. In fact anytime anyone wants to talk about dynasties these are the two that are compared.
allow me to now defend myself
Strikeforce’s division is much more wide-open, because as good as the UFC talent is it means nothing because there is nobody on anyone’s lists that can beat Anderson Silva. Nobody. So its almost like, whats the point? That’s why I want to see Silva give the belt up (I know i know, its not gonna happen). Whenever UFC middleweight fights, they are interesting but not really because you know non of them can beat The Spider. The only interesting UFC middleweight fight left right now is Hendo vs. Nate. Thats it.
Now, just because Strikeforce does not have Anderson Silva in their division doesn’t mean they have a better middleweight division than the UFC.
You could try and argue they have a more exciting division, but just because middle tier fighters are allowed to compete for a belt because they don’t have Anderson Silva as their champ does not in any way, shape or form give them a better middleweight division than high class fighters in the UFC unable to take the championship from the BEST middleweight in the world, Anderson Silva.
This shirt is "dry clean only", which means it's dirty.
Strikeforce definitely has a good MW division, but it is still growing.
Cung Le
Robbie Lawler
Jake Shields
Jacare
Kazuo Misaki
Matt Lindland
Mayhem Miller
Nick Diaz
Frank Shamrock
Scott Smith
Benji Radach
Joey Villasenor
Cyborg Santos
Tim Kennedy
Paul Bradley
They are in talks with Filho and Santiago as well.
=)
Are there any plans for Kazuo Misaki to fight for them soon? And when I say soon I mean in the next 6 months.
Not sure. I think he has one fight left in his contract with Strikeforce.

Obvious Troll
Flag this as a troll, people.

Hmmm...
You could say it’s better in terms of having talent that’s all evenly matched to an extent, but it isn’t better in terms of having the best guys.

I’m actually bit suprised how well the SF fighters stack up in regards to name recognition. The fighters the UFC have that feels way better are Maia, Hendo and Nate, can’t say I feel the rest are leaps and bounds ahead of the SF-crew. SF is a notch down, but I’m suprised that they are so close. There are alot of fights in the SF rooster that I’d rather see than alot of the match-ups in the UFC. Which in my eyes is quite the accomplishment for a competing org in the US.
