Quote of the Day: Urijah Faber Talks Dominic Cruz
"I'm not one to dwell on the past too much, but I really don't care for the guy (Cruz) too much and I'd love to go down there (to bantamweight) and fight him at some point. The whole thing was, basically, we signed these posters for charity, and give them to a lot of people as gifts. The fighters take some and all the fighters sign them. The day of the fight, he was just being basically an immature punk and signing all over my face with his signature. So you know, for me, who's a good sport and not a little punk, it would kind of piss me off. I don't really like the guy very much. I don't know him too well. We've spoken here and there and I'm not like trying to fight him when I see him or anything, but it kind of says a little something about his character."
Former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber talks to Pro MMA Radio (HT MMA Mania).

too “kind of” tick off Urijah must take a lot. he seems like a chill guy.

Really? He kind of strikes me as the kind of guy who wishes he was relaxed and tries to act relaxed, but really isn’t.
I mean he’s holding a major grudge over magic marker placement.

I was thinking the same thing, after his losses to Brown he has seemed like a real nice, humble guy and always comes off very respectful in interviews so I’m guessing there’s a little more to this than just the poster thing that everyone is dwelling on.
Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.

we also got to remember Cruz beat Benevidez. maybe that added fuel to the fire.

Yeah, well, I’m just impressed he has that good of control over his urine stream.

I think it’s because of where he drew the “m”.
by grein on Oct 21, 2009 1:15 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
This has nothing to do with posters
and everything to do with the fact that Cruz whipped his boy Benevidez…bad.
I’ll say it; I can’t stand Urijah Faber’s attitude. He is not a champion anymore so why does he get all this publicity? Brown schooled him; twice…. yet you don’t hear two peeps from him ever.
by ThomasJ on Oct 21, 2009 11:27 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That’s because Brown doesn’t have a gorgeous cleft on his chin like mr sunshine.
In the age of MTV you are really wondering why Faber gets more coverage than Brown??
by oasis77 on Oct 21, 2009 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No
But in the age of MTV I guess I can’t see why Faber gets it, either.
Just not a fan of Mr. Sunshine; thats all.

He was a very popular champion for a long time, that’s why. It’s the same reason Chuck and Randy still get a ton of attention even though they’re both 0-2 since 2008.
Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.

They were shoving Urijah down our throats long before he was champ..and long after he lost.
At least Chuck was KO’ing Mofos for a few years..

Not a good comparison; Chuicka dn Randy are more/less over the hill and Faber is in his prime and got beat twice by the same guy. While I commend his guts and he is a hell of a fighter, he’s not champ yet still gets the entire spotlight.
All I’m saying is that he’s in the entire spotlight; Brown isn’t even considered. if you didn’t know better, you would think Urijah Faber never lost to Brown; once let alone twice.

Chuck and Randy… man my spelling is all over the place today.

educate myself? Lol. Thanks, I think most people understand why Nixon lost those debates. I think the MTV phrase is more relevant in general.

The television audience said he “lost” while the radio and political audiences gave a consensus victory.
It was the genesis of attractive appeal outweighing the unattractive in an arena where appearance had been (and should be) predominately moot.
This was a couple decades before the formation of Music Television.
You are right that only most people understand.

Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber
There’s probably something to the idea that Faber wants to beat Cruz because Cruz beat his boy Joe Benevidez. However, this is kind of strange to me because if you’re looking for a way to hype of a fight, I would think the revenge angle is better than the “he signed his name on my face, then gave the posters to fans” angle.
Of course, all of this ignores the fact that Faber already clobbered Dominick Cruz. Faber is the only blemish on Cruz’s record. So, vengeance for a defeated teammate is a good reason to want to scrap, but why would you give a guy you don’t like the chance to avenge his only loss? Even if you wanted to for the sake of a pay day – and Dominick Cruz doesn’t exactly add anything to Urijah’s typical payday – you tell the guy that he has to come up and challenge you; you don’t go out of your way to follow him, because that just makes it look like he’s in control, which is silly in the context of these two.

Additionally, it seems like Faber is more annoyed about this than the time a Thai gang tried to kill him, which is odd to me not only because, hello, we’re talking about signing posters but also that he didn’t really seem all that concerned about having a bunch of guys trying to kill him.

He must be genuinely upset about the poster thing because no promoter would come up with something so lame.

Urijah can make bantamweight? That could make for some cool fights at some point.

Yes, he can and yes, it would.

What’s wrong with that?
Why is Urijah getting so much hate for what he said?

Google “making a mountain out of a molehill.”
Or, if you’re already familiar with that phrase, it’s that.

Sure, because this thread made Urijah Faber pitch a fit over someone signing his name on a poster.
So it’s ok to cry like a woman over trivial nonsense, but it’s not ok to suggest that maybe someone should let the trivial nonsense go.
MMA fans are idiots.
