Fight Announcement Frenzy: A Brief Recap of Upcoming Fights
There's a ton of rumors and fight announcements today, so here's a quick recap:
- Rolles Gracie (3-0) has signed with the UFC and will debut against British Heavyweight, Mustapha Al Turk on UFC 109 this February. Rolles has been training with Renzo Gracie at New York and with Greg Jackson at New Mexico and is coming off a win in Art of War 14 last month. (MMA Weekly)
- Donald Cerrone (10-2), coming off a razor thin decision loss to Benson Henderson is set to make a quick return as he has agreed to face Ed Ratcliff (7-1) on WEC 45 this December 19th. (mmajunkie)
- UFC veteran, "Professor X", Xavier Foupa-Pokam (20-11, 0-2 UFC) will headline Taichi Palace Fights II against Mike Moreno (5-2) on December 3. (mmajunkie)
- Robbie Lawler has verbally agreed to fight in Strikeforce's December card. No opponent has been set, but they're talking about putting him against Jacare Souza or Nick Diaz. (mma fanhouse)
- Mark Munoz (6-1), who recently won his middleweight debut, will face Ryan Jensen (14-5) on UFC 108. (Scott Haber, via mmajunkie)
- Nate Diaz (11-4) vs. Gray Maynard (8-0) will headline UFN 20 (Scott Haber, via Gracie Fighter)
- Jeff Curran, who is trying to recover from a four fight skid in the WEC, has signed with Strikeforce and will debut on the prelims of Strikeforce: Fedor vs Rogers. (MMA_SuPreMaCy, via mma fanhouse)
- Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira (18-6) is close to signing with the UFC. (mmaforreal, via tatame)
But wait, there's more!
- Brad Blackburn (15-9-1) has signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC and expects to face a top 10 fighter on early 2010, after he recovers from surgery. (mmaweekly)
- Anthony Pettis (7-0) is injured and has been forced out of his WEC 44 bout against former WEC lightweight champ, 'Razor' Rob McCullough (17-5). WEC 44 is going to be on November 18th and will be headlined by Mike Brown and Jose Aldo. (mmajunkie)
- A few bouts for Sengoku XI has been announced. Akihiro Gono (29-15-7) will look to go back to the winning track as he faces 6'3 welterweight, Yoon Young Kim (12-4). Also, Hirokazu Konno (1-3), will face former pro boxer Tomoaki Ueyama (2-3). (Nightmare of Battle)

I’d love to see Lawler vs. Diaz, but that can’t happen without screwing Hieron over again.
