Silva Won't Fight Machida, but Nogueira Will
Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida's manager, Ed Soares has once again reiterated to Sherdog.com that no matter how much Dana White wants it, the middleweight champion and the light heavyweight champion will never meet in the cage.
However, he also says the following on a potential Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Machida match-up that should make all those that were worrying about it possibly not happening feel a little better.
"That (Machida vs. Silva) won't happen," said Soares. "Anderson is most likely going to be cornering Lyoto this fight."
However, that doesn't mean Soares has ruled out every fight between his clients and teammates.
"I'll tell you one fight that's going to be a difficult one to go, Rogerio (Nogueira) is coming to the UFC, and I think if Rogerio puts on some good performances and Lyoto keeps on defending his title, that's going to be a fight that, unfortunately for us, is two of our guys fighting each other."
Little Nog is scheduled to make his UFC debut at UFC 106 against Luiz "Banha" Cane and with a victory there I wouldn't be surprised to see Nogueira pushed into the No.1 contenders position considering the lack of contenders after the title clash at UFC 104.

Good
Even though I’m not a fan of forcing fighters to fight each other, I also dont like it when too many divisions get held up because teamates wont fight.
Although I dont even know if it wil get this far. I know a lot of people are writing off Cane but not me I’m picking him to win the fight.

This stinks of boxing
I still think this teammates not fighting is BS, In the case of championships fighters should have to fight each other, and Ed Soares is a total douche telling us what fights we can have, why should he decide? Top contenders not facing each other is what ruins boxing, do we want the UFC to go the same way.
This is the beginning of a steep and slippery slope down hill. IMO.

Why do the LHW and Middleweight champs have to fight?
This isn’t one of those fights that should happen for the health of the divison; this is an extracurricular fight (the type bemoaned by many when it was Penn vs. GSP). It doesn’t need to happen, even though it would be the best fight ever.

My thoughts exactly.

The MW champ is obliterating former LHW champs in his spare time, and seems to be the only one with the skill set to deal with the current LHW champ.

I’m going to wait to get my panties in a knot about teammates fighting when it actually becomes an issue – when the clear number 1 and number 2 won’t fight. Prior to the last WEC, there was a ton of hand wringing and teeth gnashing about Jose Aldo and Wagney Fabiano being teammates.

No need to wait till it's acutally upon us
It’s pretty obvious that this is going to be an issue, why wait till it actually happens, where we’d be forced to made decisions in a hurry? Isn’t it more responsible to see that it WILL happen and therefore we should prepare for it while we still have time to think it out and make a good, not rushed, decision?

At this point, I’m not convinced there’s anyone on the planet that weighs between 185-205 that can ever beat Anderson. I’m sticking with that until someone proves me wrong.

I heard that interview and I think now Soares is understanding that if their guys are that good they are gonna fight each other sometime, its inevitable. The only one he said it wouldn’t happen and I agree with, is Junior Dos Santos fighting Nogueira at HW since Minotauro is his BJJ master

I like the Lil Nog/Machida fight.
But what I like even more is Lil Nog/Shogun II for the LHW championship :)

hmm, not me. One was a top 3 LHW as recent as a few years ago, and one never cracked the top 5..

Well, if they both win then Shogun is top LHW and I would surely consider Lil Nog a top 5 LHW.
And why wouldn’t you want to see a rematch of one of the best fights of all time?

Shoguns not winning.
kill the hype, never gonna happen. Unless you could state some sort of scenario that has him winning. :-)

Don't get me wrong, I don't expect him to win.
But it would be the happiest moment of my MMA fandom if he does.
Scenario? Is orcus here to have my back? lol

Why can't Shogun win?
He was the best LHW a few years ago. He’s had injury setbacks for sure, who’s to say he isn’t recovered yet? Machida is definitely the strong favorite, but that doesn’t guarantee he will win.

Lets not get sucked in
He didn’t say anything definite, and even if he did, he’d just deny it next week.
I’ll believe it when I see it, and until then I’ll curse his name.

Ed Soares is greasy. And you can call that a flame.

Big Nog vs. Lyoto
Wow that would be an awesome fight! I doubt Nog could get Lyoto to the ground and he’d probably get picked apart standing, but you never know. I wonder, if Lyoto and Big Nog is a possibility, does that make Lil Nog versus Lyoto a possibility as well?
for all intents and purposes, just consider all my posts as works of satire.

…now my sarcasm meter is broken or you have your Nogueiras confused. Rogerio is little, Rodrigo is Big.
