Shawn Tompkins: Chris Horodecki Heading to the WEC
From FightHype:
According to trainer Shawn Tompkins, MMA lightweight Chris Horodecki will be heading to the WEC. "It looks like Chris Horodecki will be showing up in the WEC," Tompkins revealed in a recent conversation with FightHype.com. Although contracts have yet to be finalized, Tompkins seemed confident that a deal would be in place within the next couple of days. "We are really close to solidifying the rumor and within the next day or two, I should be able to tell you for sure," he added.
Horodecki was the closest thing to a breakout star coming out of the IFL. At one point he was a red hot prospect, 12-0 at barely 20 years of age, cruising into an IFL lightweight championship fight that seemed more like a formality than a fight. Unfortunately, instead of a coronation, Horodecki received a humiliating beatdown at the hands of Ryan Schultz (see the full entry for a gif, it's a beautiful gift wrap).
Since then Horodecki's career has been an ode to bad luck and bad decision making. Despite signing a ballyhooed contract with Affliction, he's only fought once since the end of the IFL in spring 2008.
Nevertheless, he's only 22, 13-1 and has a very impressive stand-up game. I'll be interested to see if he fights at 155 for the WEC (if indeed he signs with them) or if he cuts down to 145.
At least he's not signing with the UFC. That would be throwing the kid into a shark tank.

I was just wondering where this kid had gone the other day.
Definitely a good move for him. The UFC would just chew him up and spit him out. He needs a couple more years of maturation at the very least, so the WEC is a good place. Though there are some pretty tough guys there too.
I love me some Sexyama!
Nevertheless, he’s only2214, 13-1 and has a very impressive stand-up game.
Fixed.
Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.
love that gif. At the time he was a cocky lil dude and he got humbled. Wish him best of luck in the WEC

That beating is hard for me to watch sometimes. That was one of the all time greatest IFL fights, in my oppinion.
for all intents and purposes, just consider all my posts as works of satire.
Chris Hordecki versus Brown would be cool.

Brown would MAUL him.

If an MMA hater sees him fighting, the next week we will see “MMA promotes violence against children” on newspapers
Yeah, we’re gonna have to go through another round of “LULZ HORODECKY LOOKS LIEK A LIL KID” jokes with folks who weren’t watching MMA when the IFL was around.

Aww, that doesn’t say “with folks who weren’t watching the IFL when it was around.”
Oh well.

Serious Question
Does he have Andy Milinokis Disease? He both looks and sounds like he’s 13 years old.
I thought the gift wrap hold was with the arm across the throat, pinning the head?

to me the Rickson pic is the definitive gift wrap
but I use that term to mean any position with the fighter on top pinning one arm helpless behind the back and pounding away with the free hand. Should probably have said “gift wrap variation”.

Thats what I thought of with Lesnar-Mir 2
like an inverted gift wrap or something.
Weird mental image….Lesnar literally wrapping a Christmas gift? Beef jerky and beatdowns

There's also this beauty by Carlos Newton (def. Nabil Khatib):

that was beautiful
I wanted to judo chop on it but never found good video.
feel free to email me if you know where it can be found.

I only know of the crappy audience-member video. It looks like Newtons goes for a kimura/americana (not completely sure which) first, then instead drags the arm across the neck & plays punchy-face.

He must be fighting at 145 in the WEC. Otherwise, why would he not go for the UFC or Strikeforce at 155 where the paydays are much bigger?
Horodecki is 14 fights into his pro career with a 13-1 record. If he’s not ready for the UFC now, he never will be.
Well if they’re going to keep a 155lb. division in the WEC they have to add some talent to it.

He hasn’t faced anyone that’s close to the caliber of the UFC’s LW Division. 4 or 5 succesful fights in the WEC and then he’ll be ready for the UFC. He’s only 22, so he’s still got plenty of time to hone his skills. The WEC is a good place for him to do that.

exactly. combining “now or never” and “22 year old” doesn’t compute.
only way i could see him fighting in the ufc immediately is if he was featured on a season of the ultimate fighter… and brought up slowly after he potentially won the thing.
But if he has 4 or 5 successful fights in the WEC and helps build up that division, why would the UFC take him away from it? Besides, I don’t see Chris coming close to beating Henderson, Cerrone, or Varner – unless his ground game comes a long way in the next couple of years.

Well, in the very least he could probably take Cerrone at will!
I am the bastard love child of Junie Browning and Diamond Dave Kaplan.
Cerrone would seriously injure Horodecki.
…and then lose by split decision…

He belongs at 45, at least for the next few fights. And with his ground game, he may well never be ready for the UFC.

Worth noting...
That while people are saying he’s better off in the WEC and should go down to 145, remember that he had been long scheduled to face Dan Lauzon in Affliction but the fight was cancelled twice. Horodecki was the oddsmaker’s favorite.
The UFC picked up Lauzon for their LW division. So I don’t know if that makes Lauzon dead meat in the UFC, or if people on this thread are underestimating Horodecki…

Probably a bit of both.
I think Dan’s going to end up like Nate Diaz in the UFC.

He’s seriously not ready for Faber. He was relatively dominant looking against severely overmatched opponents in the IFL. Schultz, while good, is not exactly a top 10 caliber guy, and he absolutely dominated Horodecki. MMAMath aside, there’s pretty much nothing in his record except the “numbers” to suggest he’s ready for that kind of a challenge.
Then again, if you’re hoping to see him get destroyed again, yeah Faber’d be a good choice.
Good to see him in the WEC
There are too many good and great wrestlers in the UFC. He’ll got some more fights under his belt and get better for it.
