Quote of the Day: Mike Wessel Rips Rampage Jackson and Kimbo Slice's Training
The reason I get pissed off at Rampage is because he's supposed to be a coach, and I used to be a coach as well. When Demico lost the way he did, Rampage started feeling sorry for himself. You could hear him saying things like, "Do I have bad luck?", and, "I can't believe he tapped out to that bullshit". I remember he said something like, "I would never lose like that". Really Rampage? Really? You're going to act like that big of a douche because one of your guys lost, even though he fought good? Demico went in there and surprised a lot of people, and lost, but who cares. Everybody loses. What did you do after your last loss Rampage? You went on a f***ing cocaine rage and stayed up all damn night before you were driving your monster truck with a big logo on it through white f***ing suburbia. Running from the cops where they had to shoot out your f***ing tires. Then Dana had to come down and bail your ass out and send you to England so the media wouldn't eat your ass apart, so you would still have a f***ing career.
The Ultimate Fighter season 10 cast member Mike Wessel talks about TUF coach Quinton "Rampage" Jackson to Heavy.com.
Special bonus quote, he talks about Kimbo Slice's training regime:
I guarantee you that his manager Icy Mike doesn't have a f***ing clue about what Roy's all about, but if he had a clue about MMA, he would have gotten Kimbo some f***ing training. I was sitting on the back porch with Kimbo and he was talking to me and a few of the other guys, and Kimbo was like, "Man, I have to learn what you guys do. I have to do what you guys are doing", and this was after he lost to Roy. So I asked him the question, 'How many times have you practiced Jiu-Jitsu? How do you train?', and he says, "I did one practice about three months ago". I said, 'You don't f***ing do it every day? I do it sometimes twice a day'. He goes, "No man". So that just goes to show that all of the people around him are all about the money and not about the f***ing sport. If they wanted Kimbo to have any kind of longevity, after they got that $500,000 for the Seth Petruzelli fight, they would have gotten him some Jiu-Jitsu. Now supposedly he's training out of ATT in Florida, and I don't even know if they're training him down there, because if Kimbo doesn't want to learn Jiu-Jitsu, Kimbo's not going to learn Jiu-Jitsu.

I just wish Mike would tell us how he really feels instead of sugar-coating everything.

To me, checking on your fighter after he gets brain damaged by being choked unconscious isn’t about being a good coach, it’s about being a decent person.

Mike Wessel
I am now his number one fan. He said on a stage what I have been thinking for two weeks now. Good for you Mike! The guy should run for public office!

I’m guessing DW will let him off the hook because he’s not in such good terms with Page, but we have to remember this is the reason why they let War Machine go. DW and his hypocrisies.
SHOGUN WILL SLAY THE DRAGON!!!
SHOGUN TO BE THE NEW LHW CHAMP!!!
Isn’t this also one of the reasons JT Money was let go? I know he lost to CB but he also ranted bout it a bit and then was cut.
JT Money was let go because 1. He made a complete ass of himself when he went on a drunken rampage in Vegas and 2. He was brought back and got steam-rolled by Dollaway.
and
talked smack about Rampage (from what I remember this is what made DW flip out).
SHOGUN WILL SLAY THE DRAGON!!!
SHOGUN TO BE THE NEW LHW CHAMP!!!
With both JT and war machine there were a bunch of stuff leading up to their release, their comments were just the final straw
Yea both those guys were both complete disasters in trouble with the company before they ran their mouths about other guys. War Machine’s ramblings went well beyond anything remotely acceptable too for that matter. It’s a much different situation than this one.

Yeah, when your manager goes by the name “Icy Mike” you’re probably not getting the training/management you really need to compete at the highest level.. Just a hunch.
Question
Why is that Icy Mike’s problem? I know some managers have a say and some influence over what training there clients get, but as a professional fighter and a competitor, should Kimbo have been training all this time on his own? If Kimbo sneezes does Icy Mike have to hold the hankie for him?
And I am laughing outloud that I actually have to refer to his manager as “Icy”!

Look, if you’re a professional and you want to be taken seriusy, you’re not signing with a guy names icy mike. Yes, it really is that simple. It may be nit picking in a way, but it certainly says something about how serious Kimbo takes all of this. I can’t wait to see him get KTFO in December by a mid tier guy they think he’ll beat. Oh wait, that already happened..
Calling Petrizulli “mid-tier” may be the nicest thing ever said about him.

Kimbo has only trained BJJ once? Did he do any ground with with Bas before that? There’s been a whole lot of talk before this of Kimbo taking things seriously. Clearly he hasn’t been.
I love me some Sexyama!
The comments he’s made on the show make it clear that he probably knows less about the ground game than the average fan.
Nobody should really be
required to know what Greco-Roman wrestling is. That’s not really important MMA stuff.
Kimbo's familiarity with BJJ
going to ATT and getting arm bared, besides that I don’t know much about it.

he went 5150 with his truck. 5150 is the california code for a crazy person.
rampage has also balooned to nearly 250 pounds for his role on the A-team movie. i thought hollywood liked skinny people. he got sent to a phyciatric ward for 30 days so he would not have to goto prison. the ufc and dana bailed him out and this is how he repays them. rashad is the man. screw rampage. peace.

Hooray!
I get it that Rampage is a mediocre coach, and has some emotional instabilitiy & anger problems, but I find it odd that people are rooting on the likes of Mike Wessel calling out Rampage when some of the same people load their shorts when Cain Valasquez says he’s confident he would win a fight with Fedor. Rampage isn’t fit to be a coach, for a myriad of reasons, which include his mental and emotional instability. In his last stint he made it very clear that he’s been battling anger problems for most of his life (and has mentioned in the past that that is the reason he started fighting to begin with— surprise!). Sometimes all you can do when you’re seeing red is walk away. Can you imagine Rampage in the cage admonishing Demico while he’s trying to regain consciousness? What kind of a person would he be then? I’m not going to pretend to know everything about why he did what he did, but in my mind, you can call Rampage a shitty coach and that’s about it. Wessel could have done as much with some poise and respect. I’m not one for wagging fingers at mixed martial artists for diarrhea of the mouth, so d00d can do as he pleases; but it’s not going to get him any further in his career, and Rampage will demolish this guy if he ever decides to respond.
I STILL poop rainbows.
i know kimbo sucked at bjj..but damn one training in 3 months ??? thats soo sad and i really dont feel bad for him now that ive gotten this quote. if he is really outta ATT now, he should be good to go!
'How many times have you practiced Jiu-Jitsu? How do you train?', and he says, "I did one practice about three months ago".
Love it. Just love it.

Kimbo doesn’t need to learn Brazillian jiu-jitsu. He is way too street for that.
for all intents and purposes, just consider all my posts as works of satire.
Whew… so, I must be one BJJ training session away from making next season of TUF?
This whole season is a joke. Thankfully, there has not been any of the frathouse pranksterism that Season 8 became infamous for, but having Rampage as a “coach” and Kimbo Slice as a contestant… the only thing we need now is a worked injury so Kimbo gets a free pass back into the cage. A guy with that kind of (lack of) skillset has no place in there, name and fame notwithstanding.
Once upon a time I gave up watching pro wrestling. Garbage like this makes me think about giving up following MMA. What’s left? Boxing?

survey says........
the guy told the truth….nobody believed that rampage just didn’t eat and just drunk energy drinks. the guy used coke and went runing wild. now he is bitching about respect. do your movie and take your ass back to the ufc.
Its real weak to make accusations with no proof
Coke? Really, he was on coke based on what you read? In that case I’m going to say Wessel was drunk making these comments if we don’t need proof. Only a drunk person would run off at the mouth like that about people that have accomplished much more than himself
What gets me about the Kimbo situation is that it has been nearly a year since the last elitexc fight. Did he do nothing at all to try and improve his game in that time? He has been in the sport close to two years and still doesn’t have a clue about even the most basic stuff. Either he doesn’t care and isn’t trying or he is trying and just doesn’t get it. I can’t see much of a future in the sport for him with that kind of lack of development, particularly as old as he is now.

Rampage sucks as a coach...
This season of TUF isn’t any worse because of Kimbo. I blame Rampage for any suckage this season. Yes, you’re a fighter but at least act like you give a sh!t about your team. Also, can anyone give me a good reason why Tiki is a coach and what that nasty looking crap he puts in his beard is?

pisses me off...
I was even starting to sympathize with kimbo. I can’t believe his lack of training, I mean, this is his f-ing job! He doesn’t even need to train at some crazy gym to learn the basics, he could walk into any BJJ gym and get the “free 1st training” pass once every month and still do better than “once in 3 months”! Whats this guy doing with all of his time? Its not like he has a day-job!
Question for Everyone Here :
Anyone remember an article that said that Rashad wanted Kimbo to train with Greg Jackson or something???
Everyone has to remember here that Mike Wessel is trashing Kimbo’s training “COACHES” who don’t know jackshit about Coaching. You think Kimbo knew how to tell what GOOD COACHING STAFF OF MMA really is??
Perhaps that’s why Rashad said what he said ’cause he sees Potential in Kimbo as well as how awful “Icy Mike” is as a Coach. I swear I thought I was watching an NFL Training camp when they showed Page “Training” his troops.
I still believe that Kimbo is serious about wanting to be an MMA fighter. If he wasn’t, he would’ve(and could’ve) GONE TO JAPAN FOR A SH*TLOAD OF MONEY to participate in those freakshow events they seem to love over there. Just think about that for a second, people….
I have ZERO sympathy for Rampage and ZERO sympathy for Kimbo. Kimbo does not need anyone’s sympathy, anyway….All he needs is REAL DAMN COACHING!!
well...
…seems either no one is paying much attention to this area anymore or My Logic is so amazing I’ve left everyone here speechless after that statement.
Yep. It’s my logic. DAMN, I’M GOOD. :)
Fail
Kimbo displays a lack of understanding of basic logic and strategy, IE work on the gaping holes in your game and spend less time striking.
