"Sherdog: What about urine therapy. How did you start doing that?
Yoshizo: Actually, this technique was used in China and India a long time ago. I started doing that after reading a book about a Japanese doctor who was in World War II. When the medicines ran out, he told the soldiers to drink their urine, and it worked as a vaccine. I started doing that three years ago, and it’s working fine. I never get sick anymore. Lyoto is doing the same, and he also likes the results."

I can’t believe they put that picture with the article.

The whole thing is a good read though, Yoshizo seems like a really cool guy.

i actually remember reading about yogi’s drinking their own urine upon rising from sleep b/c it was so rich in melatonin about 15 years ago in a Muscle And Fitness magazine, when melatonin 1rst came on to the scene as a hot “new” sports supplement. calling it “drinking their early morning kahli” anyone else remember hearing or reading about this?

Machida inspired me 2 drink my own piss.

I am proud to say that I have started to drink my own piss every morning when I get out of bed. Always remember to drink the middle-stream of your own piss. I feel great, I have more energy now.

I think I’ll just forget the process entirely

Just try drinking your own piss sometime, it doesn’t taste half as bad as you might think.

If it only tastes half as bad as I think it does, that’s still pretty damn nasty.

i couldn’t justify it for the health benefits….

Yeah… mix it in with a morning smoothie!

Mmmmmm, banana, strawberry, oats and piss smoothie.

i personally hate the way it tastes. In fact, every morning I vomit after I drink the urine, but then I find that when I eat the vomit it is actually twice as beneficial and twice as tasty.

It almost seems like a shame that people are going to fixate on the urine drinking and ignore the rest of an awesome interview.

I think that urine is a disgusting placebo, but even if it has no merit, I have to admire the fact that Machida is willing to do something to be great that others (including myself ) are unwilling to do.

by Jahbulon on Oct 19, 2009 1:09 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

yeah

I’m planning on coming back to the meat of the interview in a future post, just wanted to get this out of the way.

Did you see the interview at lyotomachida.net? I would fanpost it but could not find the imbed code. Pretty normal stuff, but it is cool watching Lyoto’s English get better as he has to ask several times what to say in English.

A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.

his English is far better than any other Brazilian not leaving in the US IMO (besides Nog, but Lyoto’s pronunciation is much better), others should learn from him as he’ll be able to market himself much better this way.

I remember really noticing that in one of his recent interviews he said “Rashad” rather than “Hashad” when talking about his last fight.

Mind you

This is the same Yoshizo overtly stating “My family and I believe in spiritualism and reincarnation. [Mitsuyo Maeda from beyond the grave] is probably helping Lyoto.”

“In the beginning, [Satoshi Ishii] was getting beaten badly by Lyoto, but after two months, he improved a lot.” – Maybe this is the source of Lyoto’s idea of fighting Brock Lesnar?

So basically there are no benefits scientifically, I think it’s "benefits" rely more on a mental state, if you think it helps your mind makes it help. If Machida really thinks it helps him, it ends up helping him in the long run, our brains are powerful organs.

One of the most fascinating interviews I read in a long time, I hope Machida Karate takes off in the US like BJJ did. I would love to try and train in the art someday.

I get sinus issues for about 3 months every year around both the beginning for spring and fall…I am on the fence which I would rather have, that or drinking my own urine.

However this thing does have the same benefit as eating a live frog…nothing worse than that can happen all day.
