Rashad Evans let slip on MMA Live today that his teammate Donald Cerrone may be getting his rematch with WEC lightweight champ Jamie Varner, before interim champ Ben Henderson does, due to the serious injuries Henderson sustained in his bout with Cerrone.
"Evans had this to say when asked if it looked like Henderson and Varner would still be fighting in December to unify the belts even in spite of "Smooth’s" medical issues:
"No it doesn’t, and it looks like "Cowboy" is going to go ahead and get the fight with Varner."

How asinine? Why even crown an interim champion if they’re going to let the loser face the real champ? Regardless of how close it was, if you’re coming off of a loss you don’t deserve to be fighting for the title.
Injuries mess with this stuff, who else would you have Varner fight?

Not someone that just lost their last fight. That is similar to UFC having Wand vs. Anderson for the MW title, after losing to Franklin.
Some idea’s for opponents considering WEC doesn’t mind a two fight win streak before a title shot are Anthony Njokuani who did lose to Henderson at WEC 38 but has finished his last two opponents, and Danny Castillo who has finished two of his last three opponents, but also lost to Cerrone.
To be fair was there really a loser in this fight? It was awesome and both fighters raised their stock with it. Dont worry after Cerrone tears through Varner he’ll rape Henderson again.

I wouldn’t call that last fight rape, more like fucking awesome war.

It was a war which ended in Henderson getting “beat like a government mule” aka rape. Dude has some serious injuries.

Is it considered rape if you lose? No. Yes, he did get hurt pretty bad, rape is more like what Bowles did to Torres.

Henderson’s not going to be healed before the end of the year. Probably not until February or March. Let Cerrone fuck up Varner again, then we get Cerrone vs. Henderson 2!

Yeah, I think WEC has a nice little thing going here. I hesitate to even make the comparison, given what legends these guys were, but it’s almost like a Leonard/Hagler/Hearns kinda thing where any of the guys can beat any of the other guys and all they have is wars.
Looking forward to whatever iteration of Varner/Henderson/Cerrone comes next. And then the rematches to come.

I don't have a problem with this at all.
It would be like Hughes – BJ 2 when GSP was injured.
