Carlos Condit vs. Paul Daley Set For UFC 108 (FIGHT CARD UPDATED)

The totally stacked first UFC event of 2010 just got even more stacked. Former WEC champ Carlos "The Natural Born Killer" Condit (24-5, 1-1 UFC) and UK sensation Paul "Semtex" Daley (22-8-2, 1-0 UFC) will slug it out at UFC 108. This was confirmed exclusively by Fighters Only Magazine:

Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley (22-8-2) is set to fight Carlos Condit at UFC 108 on January 2nd, it was confirmed to Fighters Only today.

A source close to the fight says that both men have verbally agreed to the meeting, which will be Daley’s second UFC outing. His first was a sunning first-round blitz on Martin Kampmann at UFC 103, earning the UK welterweight a host of new fans with his explosive style.

His win over Kampmann was his third consecutive victory and he immediately became embroiled in a war of words with Mike Swick afterwards. Swick was originally supposed to face Kampmann at UFC 103 but was forced to withdraw with an injury.

Condit is a former WEC welterweight champion. He moved to the UFC when te WEC collapsed its 170lb division earlier this year. His first fight in the UFC was a decision loss to Kampmann, but he has since earned a win over Jake Ellenberger to take him 24-5

Contrasting styles to say the least. Condit can stand-up and fight but he is a wrestler first and striker second. Semtex has knocked out every fighter he's defeated with the exception of one submission which was apparently due to a punch to the body.

What has to be a concern for Condit is how easily Jake Ellenberger could hit him. It was amazing how Condit didn't get knocked out with the stuff Ellenberger threw at him at UFC Fight NIght 19. Condit was dazed several times in the 1st round. But he didn't quit, Ellenberger gassed and Condit did his work on the ground to eek out a split decision victory.

Daley destroyed the guy Condit couldn't beat in his UFC debut in Martin Kampmann.

It should be noted that neither fighter has ever been knocked out in their respective careers. Daley lost via TKO to Jean Silva in England because of a broken thumb so I'm not willing to count that against him in this case.

Let's hope that this intriguing matchup is energetic and fun like Condit's two other UFC fights and Daley's few minutes of obliterating Kampmann.

Daley just beat the guy that beat Condit......

And if Condit let’s himself eat at the Fist-2-Face Buffet like he did with Ellenberger…..He’s going to sleep.

Wow. Epic match-up. But Condit should defeat Daley.

The Martin Kampmann/Carlos Condit was a technical battle in which Carlos lost because he kept clinching and he consistantly lost the clinch. Love this fight.

I love the entire card

Wouldn’t be sure about that, Ellenberger almost knocked it him out and Daley has alot of power.

i'm pretty sure

\daley has next to no ground game

its going to go to the floor quickly and Daley is going to be tapping

And you’d be wrong.

He used to have “next to no” ground game. He’s easily improved. That Jake Shields fight was at the very least a morale win for him. He was able to actually get back to his feet a couple of times, and outlasted him for the most part till late. Much improved considering the old Daley would have got tapped inside one round. Alessio couldn’t hold him down, and Thompson had huge problems trying to grapple with him. Ironically, Thompson outjabbed the shit out of Daley.

Good writeup, except for one part – Condit is not a wrestler first. He’s not a wrestler at all.

I consider him a wrestler.

And a BJJ guy.

I also consider him to be highly badass.

Have to agree with Beer Monster. Condit is not a wrestler at all. He’s a BJJ/Muay Thai guy first and foremost. His wrestling is terrible, hence why he moved to Arizona Combat Sports for a short while to improve his wrestling.

Yeah I see the issue

He’s more of a grappler.

Goes back to bed

The only thing this card needs now is for Anderson to stop playing games.

Those are 6 great fights. I wouldn’t mind seeing them put Anderson Silva in against Rashad.

I really want to see Gonzaga vs. JDS.

I see that Condit is gonna want to stand, get rocked badly, come to his senses and outgrapple Daley

This is a great fight to see where Condit’s career is going to go, now that he’s going to Jackson’s camp it’s time for him to show just how good he is and start living up to his potential.

They are really giving Condit's WEC belt more worth than it actually has...

He’s being thrown into the fire early. He can beat Daley though, but he has to get it to the ground quickly.

Hope Condit wins; he’s absolutely crazy as far as going balls to the wall 24/7 but damn if it doesn’t make him one of the most entertaining guys to watch fight.

Tough one to pick

Kinda depends on how well you think Daley’s TD defense and ground game have evolved.

I’m gonna say significantly and take Daley by KO 2nd Round.
