No fight footage?
Its hard to sell Fedor as the baddest man on the planet with shots of him working out and winking at the camera.
they don't have the rights to much of his footage
the UFC owns most all of it.

What about Bodog and Yarennoka?
Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.

and if I recall correctly the Yarennoka
video rights are a legal tangle and total clusterfuck, just like that event was.

Just curious and totally unrelated.

Poor viral marketing..
Lousy advertising campaign that’s a little late in the game.. This teaser should have been running heavy 3 months ago..
We should be seeing heavy advertising that promotes the bout itself and both fighters by now.. We’re less than 25 days from the fight… lol

Keith Jardine is now known as "The Dean of Antihistamine" because he is always sleeping early in fights..
LOL
3 months ago? This isn’t Spike tv or the debut of SN Fights.

No you're right
It’s the debut of Fedor on SF on CBS.. What the hell was I thinking ??? lol
SF on CBS won’t live to see a complete fiscal year.. Mark my words

i’m pretty sure i saw a comercial or 2 during the football game on Sunday, so it is nice to see them promoting it. It will be interesting to see how the numbers compare to the EliteXC shows. Strikeforce obviously puts together a better product, but i think Kimbo sells better then Fedor to the mainstream audience
They showed a little clip of Fedor during the Browns/Bills game debacle on Sunday. We cool to see, hopefully they continue to build on the hype.

i think this is good. if i didnt know him, i’d at least be interested enough to google him, if not watch the show.
exactly
If I knew nothing about MMA, I would be absolutely intrigued. The quotes are powerful. Even sports fans who don’t watch mma recognize Randy Couture and Jay Glazer. Not bad at all.
by steak_knife on Oct 15, 2009 11:35 PM EDT up reply actions
but would you even know what mma is?
To get the people they need to get they need to hope they catch the very small UFC champion or hope that they recognize the name Randy Couture from that quote.
Instead of him punching a bag and hitting a tire with a hammer they should have showed him punching a person, taking down or ground and pounding a person, and armbarring a person. They don’t have real fight footage to use, but I’m sure baby fedor or some other m1 guy wouldn’t mind getting thrown around on tape for a few minutes.

Meh
He’ll never be a successful fighter, he doesn’t have the body for it.

they really need to start playin the angles on this one
I’m positive if they took the Rockyesque angle of a poor dude coming out of changing tires and stepping into the big show against a robotic fight legend they’d get more press and better reception, they arent gonna be able to turn Fedor into a draw within a month
Ive said this in a another thread but i always see Fedor as Rocky. Hes such an every man. I think they should play Rogers as the heel because I think Fedor is an easier sell as a face.
He has a Russian accent. Thats hollywood for ‘bad guy’.

Seriously
Get some footage of Fedor saying something in Russian and then caption it.

exactly, americans are bred to have distaste for russians: like the movie miracle, and rocky, the actual miracle that happened, and we got to the moon before you(them) and i don’t know how receptive casual followers will be to a russian. Until they see him fight and do some interviews and realize how calm and humble he is.

To be fair
I’m sure CBS only cares about the ratings the US audience would bring and could give two shits about us outsiders.
The only problem I have with the promo is that, once again, Fedor is promoted and his opponent is nothing more than an afterthought. Rogers was not even mentioned in the ads this past weekend nor was he mentioned in this vid. It reminds me of the BMOP hype video M-1 did before Day of Reckoning that spent maybe five seconds out of a 30 minute infomercial actually talking about Fedor’s opponent.
You can’t build up excitement for a fight by only hyping one guy.

If this was actually on TV some people might be wondering if this is a promo for a fight or reality show.

A thought:
Why is is Fedor/Rogers? Shouldn’t it be Fedor/Brett?

The Man. The Myth. The Machine. The world’s greatest MMA fighter in his prime. In prime time.
Why is Strikeforce trying to hype Anderson Silva?
Lol…
Don't argue for the sake of arguing....

This promo looks like the promo for a local boxing show. In no way should the ‘greatest fighter in the world’ be introduced to the world soley on footage of midlevel boxing.

The stack is really stacked against SF in this fight.
Apparently this went up on youtube yesterday, and we didn’t even find it here till today. It also has 303 views. Cain’s video blog that was put up today has over 9,000 already.
Just making a video and throwing it up on youtube without telling anyone really isn’t a lot.
Hence my quote
Poor viral marketing…
THEY DID A PISS POOR JOB OF MARKETING THIS FIGHT !!!
We’re less than 25 days out and CBS is just now starting to run teaser’s for the fight. People will tune in, by accident.
Even EliteXC did a MUCH better job marketing their cards than this.. They were running Kimbo add’s for the fight card 60 days out.. That’s just a given in advertisement.
Mark my word’s, SF on CBS will fail in the long term.

Lol at the Frank Trigg, MMA Analyst quote credit. When I think of Twinkletoes, analyst is not the first word that comes to mind
