Bernard Hopkins compares MMA to gay pornography:
"Everybody is different. I don't want to watch two grown men wrestling with panties on. I'm from the hood, we don't play that. To me, I'm not buying a ticket to watch two grown men with panties on, sweating, [with] nuts in their face. That's not me. To compare that to boxing is ludicrous. It's a porno. It's an entertainment porno," Hopkins told BoxingScene. "I'm not wrestling a guy with panties on and his nuts in my face, and they call that a sport."
"I'm not criticizing people for what kind of entertainment they like. I think most of those people have chains and masks in their closets. There is something out there for everybody. I can understand if 90% of women were going to those things but I can't understand a grown man sitting there with a couple of guys watching two grown men with panties on, sweating. That's just my opinion. It's not a good look," Hopkins said.

Panties = spandex shorts?
Spandex shorts = better quickness/range of movement
Board shorts = better for the male viewer, not necessarily the female viewer
Result: Wear spandex to win your fight and get laid (see GSP)

Bernard Hopkins and Homophobia
two grown men wrestling with panties on.
two grown men with panties on
I’m not wrestling a guy with panties on
two grown men with panties on
A guy who references “two grown men with panties on” four times in the same interview is either gay himself…or not straight.

According to Hopkins High School wrestling, by his description of gay, is way more gay then MMA. I have worn a singlet and can attest that they do not turn you gay. In fact, they may breed homophobia. (See Brock Lesnar)
He's not gay!
He just likes wearing panties, that’s all.

Ok so I’m never watching a Hopkins fight again. I guess he didn’t get the memo that homophobia isn’t cool anymore
B-Hop is still cool.
Check his accomplishments in the ring over the years. Do I agree with what he said? No, but I give the man his due respect for his in-ring exploits.

Ugh
This goes into a lot more then just a boxing guy trying to thump his chest. I HATE comments like this:
I don’t want to watch two grown men wrestling with panties on. I’m from the hood, we don’t play that.

How can he say grappling is gay when any boxing fight nowadays consits of 2 grown me hugging each other for 12 rounds?

I can't help but compare
Bernard’s comparison of MMA with homoerotica to birthers that decry Obama’s election. Neither can seem to accept an obvious defeat, and both seem to cling to some outrageous claim that only makes rational people find excuses to avoid a conversation with them.
Just Google - Bernard Hopkins, rape, prison
Conversation over.
Hopkins spent several years in jail. There were reported stories about how Hopkins conducted himself and bullied other inmates.

or watched a frank trigg fight and based everything on that.
also, bernard is just another boxer angrily hanging on to a sport thats fading away in the wake of the one sport that is a true test of fighting ability.

I think it’s definitely close to that . The UFC can fill a stadium almost everywhere they want – think Germany , U.K and soon Australia. So many UFC shows pass the million PPV buys and are probably watched as part of a group…it’s gotten big . Japan used to squeeze 70+ thousand people into their arenas during the Pride days , I bet there are millions of fans in Japan alone. Then you have Brazil who is a freaking huge country, Canada (thanks to GSP probably) and probably many more. You’d be surprised if you knew where I’m from…
Based on True Events
I’m from the hood, we don’t play that.

Anyone who didn’t get that , you should watch The Wire now . Best thing I’ve seen on TV after The Sopranos and maybe Dexter.
Wire > Sporanos >>> Dexter.
Sopranos doesn’t cover nearly as much ground as the Wire, and Dexter, while entertaining, is a one-note premise.

Haven't seen any of those shows but i just got given the Dexter box set so i will start there...
But i just thought i would add, Entourage > Everything
Sorry, he Jason Bourned me.
The Sopranos hugged Goodfella’s nuts too hard. Not saying it’s a bad show, just The Wire is far better.

"On the sixth day god created man,but on the fifth day man created god" - Todd White on The Book Of Lucifer:
The Enlightenment
Boxers, and boxing promoters...
(Hopkins, Arum, etc.) continually embarrass and disrespect themselves and their sport. As a fan of both sports (MMA+boxing), I find myself torn when I listen to the idiots that my entertainment dollar supports. Don’t get me wrong- there are idiots on both sides- but primarily it’s the boxing mouthpieces that spout garbage regarding the other sport.
There are a lot more mouthpieces in boxing
The mouthpieces are relatively consolidated in MMA. THE mouthpiece of MMA, who actually gets real news coverage, spouts stuff out. Dana White saying something has the same effect as 10 Bernard Hopkins running around and saying it, because he doesn’t have a collective action problem in trying to find a consolidated message that the sports media can latch onto. I guess Arum and Hopkins aren’t any less influential than the next guy in boxing, but there are 20 or 30 others with a similar level of regard who don’t say anything, and a bunch of them (Shaw, King, Jones, etc.) have even tried their hand at promoting MMA and failed pretty miserably.
If Oscar or Floyd starts talking shit about MMA, then get more worried.

So Benard says
it’s gay to grapple but not gay to do homosexual acts in prison? I bet he got told he had a pretty mouth quite often.
it CAN look funny at times , but so what?
It’s very rare but a few positions (all kinds of north south variations or guard positions) do look a little funny to people who know nothing about the sport . I watched it with a couple of girls and all they had to say was “ohhh , they’re hugging” . Whatever , yeah I get it that it can look gay but mostly women or homophobic men (or probably gay men) get fixated about that .

Most Women definitely watch it ’cause they like seeing stuff like that, I guess. Same thing when Most men like seeing two bikini-Clad women go at it in a Cat Fight.
Funny thing is, and this is just from my personal experience, maybe 2 women in my life (exes, co-workers, relatives, etc.) have ever thought two men doing anything vaugely homosexual was a turn on or something they would want to see. Just like I’m the weird guy that has no interest in seeing women fight unless it is a serious contest between serious competitors.

Bernard should train with Chael Sonnen:
“Even if I thought I could get a submission, I’m not laying underneath a grown man with my legs spread on worldwide TV. Some guys subscribe to that theory, but I’m a Republican, and we don’t do that.”

Larry Craig agrees with him.

How is light heavy 168-175???

same reason they have 6 belts per every 5 1/2 pounds that we’ve never heard of…most dont pay attention any more
Historical remnants
I wishthere was a good way to fix it, but there isn’t. There really doesn’t need to be more than 12 weight classes, tops, and people are just a lot bigger now in general than they were 130 years ago when the original 7 weight classes were set. Heavyweight being 175+ really stifled things in that regard.

The fight would go down just like either Mercer/Kimbo or Mercer/Sylvia or maybe inoki/ali, which would suck
Those are the three models, if you take any top level boxer and a top level mmartist, it will either be a 1 punch ko for the boxer, a quick sub for the mma guy, or no one doing anything for the duration of the fight.
Middle weight and lightheavy in boxing ...
Wouldn’t that put them in GSP/BJ territory? Do you think he’d beat them in a fight?

I dunno guys...
He had some valid points…I think I’m going to stop watching MMA now…………………………………………………………………………..
I'm surprised this doesn't get more AirTime
on the Local News. GLAAD and the other Gay Rights Activists would have a freakin’ field day with this.
Easy way to solve this that would never happen:
Anderson Silva wants to box so bad and B Hop wants to talk trash about MMA and make a lot of money. Why not have Silva kick his ass in a boxing match. I’m pretty sure Silva could handle him.
Being from Philly, I can say that Hopkins is a disgrace and all he does is talk shit about people. His biggest target is McNabb and every chance he gets he rips him. Hopkins is pathetic.
In a way, it’s a perfect comparison. Gay pornography is attractive to homosexuals and bisexuals and isn’t in and of itself, better than, or less good than straight pornography. Much like MMA is attractive to some people and isn’t in and of itself better than, or less good than boxing. I know this isn’t what he meant – but it does fit.
Ok, my money is on Anderson Silva if he were to box B Hop for 3 simple reasons.
1) Anderson is by far the most accurate striker in MMA.
2) Hopkins hasn’t knocked anyone out since he KO’d an undersized De La Hoya over 5 years ago.
And
3) B Hop is 44 freakin years old and has lost to some less than reputable boxers in the last few years.
