If these aren’t being made by interns, the UFC is throwing money away.

No offense
But I’m not sure how much you all are aware of what goes on to make a product like this… it’s not just about what “looks good”. Based on the comments, that is.

Yes offense
But I own a successful creative services company. Very little work went into this poster, and if you have any familiarity with the creative process (I seem to remember you saying you worked in a creative capacity at a toy company?) you’d realize it’s a hack job.
I STILL poop rainbows.
I disagree
I’m sorry you were offended, but if you think this is a “hack” job then maybe we deal in two different worlds of design. By no means is this going to start a new trend in the world of design, but I would never call this a “hack” job. The Affliction poster posted below is a hack job. As I’m sure you know, the point of these posters is NOT to impress the audience with their creative prowess, but to convey information.
My first job as a designer was for a toy company many years ago. Awesome job. Crappy pay. :(
I thought about doing it on my own many times, but the discipline required to do it yourself is just not my bag baby. That and I like having free health insurance.
Where is your company based out of? How many designers work under you? Are you a designer as well?

Clouding and layering fighters is substandard production (ie; hack job— not worth paying a professional going-rate for). There are far more creative ways to convey the information provided, and more effectively, too (the names aren’t even indicating the specific fighters, so the display of information is inadequately executed). Agree to disagree… And no, I wasn’t actually offended, but you replied to me and I thought I should specify that I wasn’t being a self-important MMA fan, but that I have real experience in the creative process of similar materials.
My company is based in NE Minneapolis. I’m the creative director and employ two graphic designers, a web designer, a web programmer and two marketing & client relation specialists. Even though I’m the creative director, I’m extremely picky and have high standards, so I often do much of the production, as well. So yeah, I’m a designer too (web & graphic).
I STILL poop rainbows.
Fair enough!
I’ll go along with the “agree to disagree” and leave it at that! ;)
(So tempted to counter argue some of your points… grrr…)
I’m pretty much the design Nazi at my job. Perfection is unattainable but it never hurts to strive for it. I work with a lot of programmers and developers (although I do web development as well) and I have done a LOT of print work, a lot. My passion is the web which is primarily what I work in now, but I do end up with the occasional print piece.
I found your companies website, but it looks like it’s in limbo right now. What gives?? I want to see samples dammit! (Note: my portfolio website has been dreadfully neglected for the last 2 years… lol)

I made the brutal mistake of taking down my old page while implementing my new FLASH page and not retaining my old code, then discovering the XML FLASH interface had some serious cross-platform optimization problems (fucking Firefox!) and have had literally no free-time to address it. But at least I do bonehead shit with my own product and not that of my clients. Hahaha! If you email me, I’ll send you some links to sites I’ve worked on as well as some examples of brand identity or other materials.
I STILL poop rainbows.
*gasp!*
How DARE you curse the good name of Firefox! lol
I’m going to email you shortly!

I hope peopel don’t start to complain about how Randy is front and center with Vera in the back, it’s a Spike broadcast, of course they want the one thing people see to be Randy. Well played by the UFC if you ask me.

It’s a shitty poster because of it. Doesn’t have anything to do with the focus on Randy..
I STILL poop rainbows.
This thing is a fucking masterpiece compared to the one in the email I got announcing 106 with Penn and Sanchez.
Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.

That hairline
This has to be a joke. No way the UFC would make such a big mistake like this. Right?

Randy’s looking pretty old in this picture. More proof that Vera will smash Couture.

Alright, UFC. You tried and failed to impress with a slightly different style of poster. Congratulations. Seriously.
Now, please hire Eugene.
I specializes in grammar fail.
The fade out at the bottom really fails to impress me. But it’s still better than this:

16 colors FTW!
You don't look like a Tanaka.
seriously??
ugh… that poster is an insult to my design sensibilities…

I LOVE it!
It’s much more simple, yet artful, than most of the bolder, darker posters. They should take cues from DREAM.
