Houston Fighting Kimbo in Dec.

I would like to be able to post a source, but it came directly from a conversation with one of the participants. Almost put it on another site, but I'm starting to like Bloody Elbow more than most of the others these days.

I think this fight will be a good one for Houston as Kimbo will be new to weight cutting. Also I think he'll be able to control the fight with his strong clinch game. We all know neither one has much on the ground so I can't see either of them trying to fight there.

I went with Kimbo, reason being, Houston is going to play Kimbo’s game. This isn’t to say he couldn’t beat him anyways, Houston hits just as hard as Kimbo. It’s going to be a painful night for one of them.

Kimbo learns.

Kimbo learns what?

It’s going to be a standup battle.

I may be in the minority

But I think Houston’s more varied muay-thai arsenal will give Kimbo some problems, especially if he can get inside and get Kimbo in the clinch.

I’m with you. Houston by leg kicks and proven punching power.

Unless Kimbo pulls out the Mercer-slaying guillotine, that is.

by JRN on Oct 13, 2009 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Seriously

Kimbo couldn’t KO Josh Thompson with flush shots. Houston should win this.

Kimbo at 205? Or Houston at HW again?

by szucconi on Oct 13, 2009 6:34 PM EDT reply actions

Kimbo’s 35 years old and has to cut his weight by 30 pounds or so, even though he’s already ripped. Seriously – he might have to cut the beard.

Houston Alexander has a very good shot at winning if he survives the early going.

by MMAEruption on Oct 13, 2009 6:53 PM EDT reply actions

I wonder if the UFC will have any contingency plans in place for if he can’t make weight. Will be interesting to see.

I’m pretty sure Houston is going up to HW because of his lack of a second kidney.

I don’t understand that.

by SSreporters on Oct 13, 2009 6:54 PM EDT reply actions

I could see Kimbo gettin a whuppin’. Cutting weight for the first time in his life won’t be easy at his age. I don’t understand why they didn’t match him up with Tim Hague or even Buentello if he’s gotta fight, at least keep it at HW.

by StevenGiles on Oct 13, 2009 7:04 PM EDT reply actions

I’m glad I am now aware that Kimbo is a good learner and Houston has varied muay thai.

by Simco on Oct 13, 2009 7:11 PM EDT reply actions

Alessio Sakara is similarly aware

I think ‘varied’ in this case means ‘has thrown a kick in is life’

by StevenGiles on Oct 13, 2009 7:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Kimbo looks pretty ripped at 230 pounds. I don’t see how he cuts to 205 without sacrificing alot of muscle mass. Houston has much quicker hand speed. I’ve seem many of Kimbos fights on YouTube. He seems very slow and plodding. I don’t see how he can beat Houston.

by pharmboy on Oct 13, 2009 7:19 PM EDT reply actions

Forrest walks around at 230-235

by HighNoon on Oct 13, 2009 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Forrest isn’t pure muscle like Kimbo is.

by ChiCubs23 on Oct 13, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Thiago Alves is pure muscle and he cuts from 205 to 170. However, Kimbo could have problems bc he has never cut weight before

Houston > Kimbo anyday at either weight

by Ominous on Oct 13, 2009 7:31 PM EDT reply actions

so given all the chatter on the show about him getting another fight, this means that he potentially loses TWO fights on TUF and then gets a fight on a PPV? i know he’s ratings gold… but damn.

unless of course he never fights a second time on the show, which would be ridiculous, since they’ve been teasing the hell out of it in the promos.

by woooburn on Oct 13, 2009 7:33 PM EDT reply actions

Wouldn’t you tease it if you were Zuffa? I certainly would.

If Kimbo is the draw, market Kimbo. It doesn’t matter how much Kimbo is in your actual product.

This is kind of spoilers. Although Kimbo already lost, this is telling us he either comes back and loses again, or doesn’t come back at all.

by ChiCubs23 on Oct 13, 2009 7:50 PM EDT reply actions

Kimbo v. Houston

I had this happening as far back as June on Meltzer’s site (subscribers only). Of course, back then I said Kimbo would have to beat Houston in order to fight Chuck. I’ve long since removed that qualifier.

So, when you see other sites claiming this as an exclusive, now you know the score.

I feel pretty great about this right now.

Would it in Kimbo’s best interest to take this fight to the ground?

by The Bronzeville Bully on Oct 13, 2009 8:36 PM EDT reply actions

I dont see how this match makes sense, unless someone from ATT is telling Joe Silva that Kimbo’s work on ground has improved 200 percent, which is probably enough to take out Houston.

Big Country

Roy Nelson actually let it slip in one of his interviews about Kimbo moving to LHW.

by The Engineer on Oct 13, 2009 11:59 PM EDT reply actions

This could be a big factor for someone cutting that much and is not used to cutting weight. Will more than likely have a big impact on Kimbo’s cardio.

by The Engineer on Oct 14, 2009 12:02 AM EDT reply actions

i think the guy who maintains his composure will win

kimbo is used to the big stage, and will probably fight in the ufc (or elsewhere) win or lose. not alot of risk for him.

houston has been on the verge of getting cut for awhile now. if he loses, i think he’s gone… and knowing that going into it, i think he’s gonna crack under the pressure. certainly gonna be alot of hype going into the fight if it happens. hopefully he can handle it.

i’m certainly pulling for alexander to get the win… just not too confident about where his head is at. we’ll see.

by woooburn on Oct 14, 2009 1:23 AM EDT reply actions

As you're probably aware

Houston has fought five times in the UFC, which is quite a bit of big stage experience. Houston also has a lot of pressure put on him locally. He can’t go anywhere in Omaha without every male under the age of 35 gawking at and talking to him. he was at the foodcourt the other day and I must have counted almost two dozen people shaking his hand and taking pictures with him.

by rzor on Oct 14, 2009 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Have people here watched Houston Alexander fight? His striking from any range beyond being able to grab his opponent is not good. He is stiff and has a short reach for 205. He’s not hard to hit either. Kimbo moves much better than Houston and is much more fluid in his striking.

by Hardcharger on Oct 14, 2009 9:48 AM EDT reply actions

Houston by Clinch-Uppercuts about 45 seconds in.

Although the beard will keep Kimbo standing for an extra punch or two.
