WEC 43: Cerrone vs. Henderson Q&A with Frank Mir, Jamie Varner and Miguel Torres

Frank Mir:
• Made it clear he is set on breaking the 1-1 deadlock he has with Brock Lesnar, but it wouldn't be fighting for the belt; since Shane Carwin's strength will defeat Lesnar at UFC 106.
• Declined to answer whether he was suffering from a knee injury against Brock, saying he was not going to walk down the same path he felt Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira took.
• Touched on his interest in fighting Anderson Silva, saying "He's learned that size helps people win fights."

Jamie Varner:
• Informed the group that he has been cleared to resume fight training and that his hand is 100 percent. He said he hopes Donald Cerrone wins tonight and that the WEC informed Varner that if anything happened between the two fighters outside of the cage their careers with the promotion would be in jeopardy.

Miguel Torres:
• Noted that he should be returning to the WEC cage in January. Torres also stated that it looks like Bowles will square off with No. 1 contender Dominick Cruz next, so he will have to take at least one fight before getting his chance to fight Bowles. He said if Cruz wins, he would still rather face Bowles than take a crack at Cruz and regaining the title.

Why did they have to warn Varner and Cerrone? Did they have fights outside the cage or something?

Also, hats off to Torres. Bowles beat him down, fair and square, and Torres wants to avenge that loss regardless of whether the title is on the line. I kinda like that.

He just needs to think while he fights instead of going into the ultra macho Mexican fighting style. He takes too much damage and fights at his opponent’s level. Not smart, but he’s got serious skills.

Whether he’s aware or not, Frank isn’t gaining many fans with all of his post loss smack talk.

If he is aware then it’s a pretty odd self-promotional angle Mir is taking, setting himself up to be the heel against Lesnar of all people, but it seems to be working.

I myself had no interest in seeing Lesnar/Mir 3 after the results of their last fight, but now I’m kinda warming to the idea of Brock feeding Frank a few more ham-fisted sandwiches.

Still, the reality for most MMA fans is that there are a lot more questions to be answered by a Mir/Nogueira rematch than another Mir/Lesnar match.

I reckon that would depend, now wouldn’t it?

They are 1-1. That’s reality. Your question is speculation. Can Lesnar take Mir down and out-strong him? Probably. Can Mir make Lesnar see tweety birds again and force him to tap to a legbar? Possibly.

But, as I said, reality is that they are 1-1. You don’t have to like it, but it is what it is.

The Mir haters continue to be great comedy, the fact that they don’t get that they are guilty of everything they accuse Mir of is incredible. But regardless Mir and Lesnar are tied 1-1 and i’d love to see what Mir does to attack Brock in a third fight whether it’s for the title or not.
