His attitude after this loss only improved, and it wasn't but a few hours after the loss that Kimbo was in Roy's face asking him to TEACH him how to escape the move that "Big Country" used against him. Roy, like the leader he is, obliged. My respect meter is off the charts for both of these guys.

Jiu Jitsu 101:

Shrimping to escape side control (or in this case an open crucifix with a weak underhook).

I give Kimbo’s attitude an A+ if he really is the guy they’re showing, but honestly…

Flopping your legs around and trying to roll every which way with a guy that heavy on you is stupid, shrimping is a simple drill that 99% of jiu jitsu academies include in the WARM UPS every day, it’s no super secret technique.

Kimbo should have brought the outside arm in to Roy’s neck/shoulder line, then it should have been brought under in order to create an underhook for himself, from there Kimbo needed to simply post the far leg by placing his foot down and bending the knee, the inside leg staying flat. The next step would have been to push off the posted foot and turn using the hips/shoulders while shooting the butt out, this would remove that open crucifix from that arm and 99% of the time will result in at LEAST half guard if not full guard or even getting to the knees.

Honestly this kind of positional escape is one of the first things you learn how to do, it’s absolutely shocking to me that he couldn’t even attempt it, he never even started step one. At least in B.J. Penn vs. Matt Hughes it was a closed crucifix and B.J. couldn’t move on his side because of a broken rib/torn cartilage…

Color me unimpressed, Kimbo needs to go to a full gi jiu jitsu class starting ASAP.

I hope so, he needs to put some serious time in on the tatame.
