Oh snap..

Kimbo said he’d beat Roy if they fought now..

Anton,
please tell me what Kimbo is smoking because I could really use some of it after work.

I think it's great that Kimbo's oldest son is a wrestler..

Kimbo seems to be a real nice down to earth guy, sucks that a lot of people hate on the guy cause of the way Elite handled him..

by Anton Tabuena on Oct 1, 2009 9:28 AM EDT up reply actions

Just hype, I credit the zuffa marketing team doing a great job selling us this stuff. They almost made everyone believe Slice was gonna win.

Sorry, no one thought Kimbo was going to win.

Sorry, no one thought Kimbo was going to win.

You meant to say:

Sorry, I didn’t think Kimbo was going to win.

The mat is my church, the ground is my heaven, Jiu-Jitsu is my religion. And once you hit the ground you're in my world. My world is like the ocean, I’m like a shark and most people don't even know how to swim - Draculino

Hmmm . . . while Kimbo definitely has punching power, his striking technique is suspect and come fight time, his ground game shows that he’s not repeated the necessary skills to be competent. Roy Nelson’s skills? Striking is so-so but enough to get him by and set up a takedown – See the Arlovski fight.

OK, since we’re on Bloody Elbow I meant to say that Luke Thomas, Kid Nate, Brent Brookhouse, Michael Rome, Leland Roling, Nick Thomas*, and myself picked Roy Nelson to win.

  • Note, Nick Thomas has the best prediction, Roy Nelson by TKO and belly rub.

Really there wasnt a part of you deep down inside that hmmm wait maybe Kimbo wins??? Because I think a lot of people had that feeling, sorry.

Roy Nelson defeated Frank Mir

nah man. I saw a couple of Roy Nelson fights. He doesn’t even belong on the show because of his experience. The UFC shunned him because of his appearance and they know he would be a problem for some their heavyweights when it comes to grappling and jiu-jitsu. I’ll root for Kimbo but he has so many holes AND it is not just his ground game.

See Roy Nelson defeat Frank Mir in a grappling contest.

The Kimbo Slice vs. James Thompson showed a whole lot. No one will know what occurred between Bas and Ferguson but apparently Bas Ruten is telling the truth.

Btw, the poll had over 700 folks thinking kimbo could win. People were giving him a puncher’s chance (shit happens), too bad for them nelson decided not to bang with kimbo like an idiot.

Is the set up so obvious?? It definitely sunk in especially after Dana’s episode ending comments.

Gary Shaw <=> Dana White

Same difference

I usually stand up for Dana

and to say that they’re EQUAL might be a stretch, but he definitely was acting Shaw-esque last night.

How can so called intelligent mma fans really make this comparison?

Do you really need the difference between main eventing cards on CBS and fighting on TUF pointed out to you? This is TUF, you know, that show that people still use to smear guys like Forrest and Rashad despite the fact that they won the belt in the most competitive division in the UFC?

Can you really not see the difference between feeding Kimbo washed up brawlers and proclaiming him the “best heavyweight striker in mma” and paying those brawlers extra to stand with Kimbo and putting him on a reality show for up and coming fighters?

Can you really blame anyone involved in this process for hinting that Kimbo would be the first in line to replace someone who got injured among this cast? Were you really more impressed by Abe or Shivers?

After reading this from Roy

First round was 44 punches to the face, and then (referee) Herb Dean doesn’t know how to ref, but we’ve seen that before. And then the next round was 22 punches… You could even see me yelling at Herb Dean, “Come on, ref”. But the thing is, there’s a lot of people; there’s a lot of money. Kimbo’s the only one that I know that had an entourage there; he actually had his family there, his management, while the rest of us kind of had to suffer. The UFC made, we’ll say, different concessions for Kimbo. I think he had a media room.

I’m really annoyed with Dana. What a bunch of BS!

What's a few concessions?

If it brings the UFC more viewers and revenue? If Kimbo does well, it’s money in the bank. If he screws up, Dana and the internet can further ridicule him and his concessions.

by dv8shun on Oct 1, 2009 10:23 AM EDT up reply actions

He already screwed up. This guy can only beat cans. Alexander and Manhoef cringe at Kimbos ground skills. Sure Dana isnt literally saying “Kimbo…THE BEST EVAH!” But he sure is acting like it. Stop falling for it already, the Dana nutthuggery is annoying.

by xFenixKnightx on Oct 1, 2009 1:08 PM EDT up reply actions

What's your problem?

Somehow, seeing the positive in a situation equates to nuthugging Dana’s balls. Guess reasonable discussion with you is out of the question.

by dv8shun on Oct 1, 2009 2:14 PM EDT up reply actions

how is he acting like it?

He put him on the show, he was disappointed in how the fight ended, like many people were.

by Phildo on Oct 1, 2009 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions

So you don’t agree that even though Dana hasn’t actually come out and literally said “ZOMG KIMBO!!!1” that he’s not promoting him as such? Stop kidding yourself. Him trying to downplay Nelsons win and compliment Kimbo just really irked the shit outta me last night, and I’m a fan of Dana.

If Roy wants to bitch about it, then he should have put more power into it. It is like holding a kimura on someone, but not enough to do any damage to them.

if you watch the 10 minute sneak peak that was first released, you can see that Marcus fights and puts some dude on his back against the cage and throwing bombs. So no Kimbo won’t be back,

Isnt that the fight everyone has been talking about trying to figure our if it was Kimbo???

IMHO I thought Kimbo could have atleast tried to buck Roy off. I know Roy is +265 but he was really sitting high on Kimbo’s head/shoulders. I am no BJJ expert but Kimbo had a lot of his body free to atleast try to buck or arch his back to create some kind of seperation to slip…I would understand if he was flailing his body and never got away but he didn’t even try except when he was against the cage. he just let his body lay there.

by YoungGun on Oct 1, 2009 11:21 AM EDT reply actions

Roy is a legit BJJ blackbelt

Kimbo could have advanced 3 levels as a defensive grappler from the time he fought james thompson, but nelson is about an 8 level jump.

agreed

but it didn’t look like he even tried to move when the majority of his body was free. Just pointing out that he simply laid there.

by YoungGun on Oct 1, 2009 12:02 PM EDT up reply actions

or if he was trying he wasn’t flexing his stomach or pushing with his legs.

by YoungGun on Oct 1, 2009 12:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I know he’s a black belt, but I don’t see how anyone to come to the conclusion you’ve come to after watching him display the most rudimentary jiu jitsu skills against Kimbo. If Kimbo knew what a hip escape was, it at least would have made Roy work a bit more. That could have tired Roy out a bit, and then, who knows?

dude

have you ever grappled before? If some one that much heavier than you has full mount and is a BJJ black belt while your at blue/white belt level you are going to get smoked bottom line… Kimbo is still very very very very verrrrry green

by Chuntsman949 on Oct 1, 2009 12:47 PM EDT reply actions

THIS

And let’s not forget that very few HWs have shown great cardio so after a 265 lb guy sits on your chest I’d like to see anyone not known for good cardio buck Roy off. I mean, I bet the one time he did, which utilized the cage for help, took a lot of of him. Few things suck worse than trying to buck a bigger guy only for him to fall right back on top of you. Then you add in that he came out firing bombs right before being taken down and I think it’s more he got tired than his ground game completely sucks.

Two more weeks

Implying that with 2 more weeks of training he would be able to take Roy.

What the fuck have you been doing for the last two years Kimbo!?!
