Quote of the Day 2: Tito Ortiz

Fedor is going to know that his striking is not as good as Arlovski’s...

I think Fedor has to get past Arlovski before he starts thinking about Tito Ortiz...

I’m not a fighter to be taken advantage of. I’m not a fighter to have people walk over me and not promote me. That’s the problem I’ve had time and time again with the UFC.

tito is so full of it

Dear tito

even if fedor doesn’t get past Arlovski, if he fought you it would be like a seen from rocky, only fedor= drago and you=apollo. an Jenna =crying in the crowd because she knows you will be a vegitable for the rest of your days

I think someone should tell Tito NO ONE IS THINKING ABOUT TITO ORTIZ.

Except the people who keep interviewing him.

Seriously, why do people keep giving him the platform to spew this nonsense? I really don’t understand this guy.

by Phildo on Jan 8, 2009 1:04 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Wow!!!

Just wow. Tito is inserting himself as the next opponent for Fedor & that he has to make thru AA just to fight him?

by dnevil001 on Jan 8, 2009 11:35 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Interviewer’s note: Mr. Ortiz conducted said interview while gazing longingly into a large mirror.

by Rundownloser on Jan 8, 2009 11:35 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Is he really trying to insinuate that if Fedor wants to fight HIM..he needs to defeat Arlovski? Wow.

I will admit that if Affliction does put a Tito and Fedor fight together it would help their promotion.

Of course for buys,

but not for validity. This would strictly be promotional & more than likely non-competitive, one-sided for Fedor.

by dnevil001 on Jan 8, 2009 11:47 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It would also cost them 4-6 million dollars. I think it would do more buys than the previous shows, but not enough to justify the cost.

Pretty lame attempt at remaining relevant.

Ok, I don't like Tito AT ALL, but...

if you word how the question was stated to him in the article, his answer doesn’t come across nearly as “Fedor needs to earn his shot” as it does out of context.

In context, it seem more like Fedor needs to stay focused on the fight in front of him and worry about me later.

Regardless, I really wish MMA news sources would make Tito earn his press more and not simply jump every time he wants to talk.

by Razreshat on Jan 8, 2009 11:48 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Understood,

but he is still implying that Fedor would even have to worry about him which is completely false. Fedor walk right thru Tito while eating ice cream cones

by dnevil001 on Jan 8, 2009 11:51 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The question was would you move up in weight to fight Fedor and he turned it into that answer. The whole interview comes off as pretty pompus on his part. I love the answer where he is talking about how he ran into Arlovski and was telling him what he needs to work on to beat Fedor.

i’d watch tito /fedor…because i love fedor and hate tito and it would be a drubbing.

they’d be similiar in size i think so noone would call it unfair in that area….

by Headkick on Jan 8, 2009 11:56 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

What?

Sounds like Tito is trying to shit talk his way into a potential big money ass whipping. Hell, Tito would have to make it through Bader just to fight Hamill if he was still in the UFC at this point.

Thumbs up for the attempt to stay relevent , Tito.

Earth to Tito, we don’t care about you anymore. You’ve been exposed as a one dimensional fighter, and even your single dimension (wrestling) isn’t the pinnacle of the sport anymore. Your “legendary” cardio is about average now, and your striking in jiu jitsu are nowhere near elite. Fedor would embarrass you worse than you currently embarrass yourself.

by Fatal Error on Jan 8, 2009 1:46 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Sorry... don't think Tito is that stupid..

Sure, Tito Ortiz says a lot of unbelievable fluff, but the wording in this question strikes me as Tito being a businessman, not a fighter.

I think Tito is simply stating that Fedor isn’t on his level as a draw or as a guy that can be promoted to bring in the fans. In that case, if we look back in his hayday with the UFC, that would be true.

Nowadays, I still think Tito has flown off the radar. I’d seriously be surprised if he was put on a card and the buys went up significantly, especially on a non-UFC card.

The point is… I think this quote is taken in the wrong context. I don’t believe he is seriously saying Fedor has to trounce Arlovski to fight Tito because Tito is a better fighter. I think he’s looking at it from more of a promoting standpoint. Tito doesn’t want to take on a guy who is relatively unknown to the U.S. fan. He wants a guy who is another draw, a guy who can talk the lingo, and get the buys, create the back story and animosity.

He was asked if he’d move up in weight to take on Fedor and that was his answer. Tito was being Tito and what Tito does is self-promote, yea he might not of intended that to sound like it did but the whole interview was just him trying to maintain interest in him.

by who me on Jan 8, 2009 2:33 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Of course he was trying to maintain interest, but I do believe Tito says shit like this in the context of business moreso that physically fighting. He doesn’t seem to care about being #1, and he doesn’t need to.

Agreed,

but it becomes tired when this happens so often with him. Interjecting himself into these situations has become sort of his calling. With Ortiz, it is only about draws which would be fine if you were relevant at all in MMA today. Being that he is not, I just have no use for these sort of comments. I used to love wrestling for exactly this sort of thing, but that is what I thought the difference was between wrestling & MMA. If he even gave any sort of shit about actually competing, rather than draws I would not mind hearing from him.

I love how the UFC not taking care of Tito

is automatically the same thing as the UFC not taking care of fighters.

I bet there are alot of non-premadonna fighters in the UFC that don’t share his opinion, and even more outside the UFC wanting in…even in Affliction.

by Razreshat on Jan 8, 2009 2:49 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

TOTO say no to DRUGS

UFC promoted him and took care of him. So he bit the hand that fed him. What an ASS! He can’t even contend with the top tier talent in UFC. FEDOR would kick is ass.

If Tito’s smart he’ll sign with the UFC and fight Couture. That is the best fight for both his wallet and his legacy.

Please why on earth would any one want to See Tito vs Randy again and why would that be a smart move for them bolth ?

I recommend everyone to read the entire article. I`ts some funny shit!

But I just couldn`t resist comment on some of the pearls.

I talked to Arlovski at the De La Hoya fight (vs. Manny Pacquiao), and I told him he needs to work on his wrestling and defending the takedown. I also told him he needs to work on moving his feet. He said that he understands moving his feet.

Tito is an excellent gameplanner. TD-defense and wrestling? Phew. I`m sure AA hadn`t thought about that. I do think it was rather rude of AA to say that “he understands moving his feet”. Sure he does, but not like Tito!

I like Fedor a lot. I think he’s dangerous fighter, but to give him another loss on his record? If I was a promoter, I wouldn’t want to do that, but you never know.

Tito commenting on a possible Fedor-fight. (And I won`t fight Chuck, cause we`re sooo good friends.)

"They called him the axe-murderer because he was murdering chumps. They should have been calling him the chump-murderer..." Rampage Jackson (commentating on the fighting abilities of Wanderlei "F#ck Chuck" Silva.)
