Quote of the Day: Dan Henderson Talks Rich Franklin

"I think I have more dimensions as an MMA fighter, so if he is for some reason beating me up on my feet, I am going to take him down and beat the shit out of him there."
Dan Henderson talking to Fighters Only about UFC 93 opponent Rich Franklin.

i heard him say that in the extended preview in ufc.com. i doubt he can beat franklin up as bad as he says in the ground.. after watching it, i kinda noticed that he’s belittling franklin’s ground game.
he calls rich as just a striker and nothing else.. franklin has a good sprawl, very good jits and his ground game is really underrated.. if hendo thinks that his opponent doesnt have a ground game, then he’s gonna be in for a surprise..
the clinch game i think is hendo’s only weakness here. If franklin fights at a distance he’d pick hendo apart. and if it goes to the ground franklin can handle it too.
I predict people including hendo in their unfair “you-lost-that-means-you-should-retire” rants after this..

Franklin will get torn up on the ground by Hendo
Okami abused him when he finally showed up to fight. Hendo is a better ground fighter than Okami.

I disagree
I think Dan is the more one-dimensional fighter. If you really think hard about the big wins Dan Henderson has had, most of them are attributed to his huge punches, not his wrestling. And in Japan, he was outwrestled by some fairly mediocre Japanese wrestlers at times.
I’m much more inclined to believe Franklin has more dimensions in this matchup. Good power, size, above average jiu-jitsu on the floor, good takedown defense… basically, a well-rounded game.
Henderson should have the advantage in the clinch, but he always manages to use his Olympic caliber wrestling to create chances for him to punch. I just think he’s one of the PRIDE guys that once again fits the stereotype that PRIDE guys haven’t adapted. Henderson strikes me as Liddell-esque in that times are changing and he’s not changing.

I agree with that assessment.
Barring Hendo landing a huge right this should be a very winnable fight for Franklin.

also, any of you find it funny that the fight that could very well be for the 2nd best MW in the world is being held at 205? and that the winner will probably drop back down to MW to face bisping.. now isnt that ironic?
id prefer the winner to stay at 205 and fight some big names like lyoto (if he doesnt get his title shot), or chuck, or shogun/coleman.. The loser could take on bisping.. How often does the winner of a high profile marquee fight drop down a weight class?

This fight is so retarded. It helps or hinders neither of them.

Especially because of the supposed plan (TUF coach) for the winner.

That neither want. I know Franklin doesn’t, not sure about Hendo but I think he said he wasn’t interested.

I really do not
like the winner being the TUF coach being added to this fight either. You would think that the UFC would want whomever coaches to be into it at least. Franklin has already done it, so he has previously experienced it & apparently is in no hurry to do it again. Hendo, I would think, would be a great coach although I am not sure about his stance.

Right, and the winner would fight Bisping for the right to fight Anderson Silva. And we all want to see Franklin fight him again or Hendo get choked out again.

I’d rather see the winner stay at 205 and fight Lyoto. I’d love to see a rematch of Franklin and Machida and I want to see Henderson fight Griffin.

tbh I’d prefer to see Henderson vs Machida

Give Bisping the title shot now...
that way he can spend the 6-8 months involved with the show healing up.
But seriously, I absolutely love that quote because it starts off sounding so intelligent and then turns ugly at the end.
