Dana White Notable Quotes on Tom Leykis

I haven't found the audio yet, but MMA News Forums has a recap of Dana White on the Tom Leykis show today where he addressed a number of questions.

Rumor of Chuck Liddell vs. Anderson Silva at UFC 100:

"It's possible. If Chuck can win in his next fight, then we could see that fight. Liddell has been open to fighting Anderson, so maybe that can be a fight we can make. "

Future of Wanderlei Silva after KO Loss:

"He still wants to fight. He is a fighter that I respected since I saw him over in Pride. As long as he wants to fight, we will continue to use him. He is a great fighter and that's why he is in the UFC.

Responds to Cro Cop talk about wanting to return to the UFC:

"We will welcome him with open arms. He is a guy that I respect, and when he left, there was really no bad blood. He needed to clear some things up, so if he wants to come back, he is welcome."

When Lesnar vs. Mir may take place:

"We don't know yet. Mir took little damage in his fight with Nog, and Lesnar wants to fight him soon, so April may be the time and place for that. It will be good."

Quick thoughts:

--Chuck-Anderson if they both win their next fight makes sense to me.  It's a huge fight if Chuck is coming off a big win, and coming out of it you get a huge match either way.  If Chuck wins, that would be two in a row over top opponents and they could probably give him a title shot following a KO win over Anderson Silva of all people.  If Anderson wins then it really heats up a potential Anderson/GSP fight.

--Mirko says he'll be ready in June or July, I wouldn't be surprised to see him fight in June in Germany.

--Lesnar-Mir's location basically depends on GSP.  If he somehow wins easy and is ready to fight again 10 weeks later, he can headline Montreal.  At the same time, I think that's very unlikely, and the UFC has an interest in selling out a Montreal show without GSP.

CC in Germany would be huge

While this actually happening would kill the curse that currently wreaks havoc on these kinds of things, Silva beating Leites while GSP dispatches of Baby Jay could set them both up perfectly for 100. My only problem would be Alves getting jobbed out of a shot he has surely earned at this point. GSP can fight Alves, but who does Silva fight (safely) so he/GSP is still feasible?

Oh, and Brock Lesnar is going to whup that ass.

Alves has to get his shot. I think that’s why Chuck/Silva makes sense, but you could also have Silva fight Okami if they dont wanna go that way.

Rome, are you signed up on our forums or did you just stumble upon that post?

I found it on Sherdog linked through. I actually thought it was just some general MMA fan forum, didn’t realize it was an established website.

Well, the main site is essentially a news aggregator with some original content from my homeslice Chris Howie, but the forum has been going for a few years now. I think its a pretty solid place, and I’m not just saying that because I’m an admin. Its relatively big, but not like Sherdog where making posts feels like throwing your thoughts into a bottomless pit.

I posted there until a year or so ago when it just got too Sherdogish for me.
No offense. It’s not like you can control what people post.

Well according to Wikipedia....

Mir and Lesnar is already booked for Montreal in April. Granted that’s about as useful as the Iraqi info minister’s weekly newsletter but just thought I’d throw it out there. It also says Silva vs. Leites is on that card, that would be one helluva show. If that’s the case then obviously GSP won’t be fighting there. Makes a lot more sense to me to save Rush for 100 wherever that ends up being, perhaps against Silva assuming the fight against Leites doesn’t go more than a round. So we have two of GSP, Chuck and Silva to headline 100, perhaps Couture against ???, and what else? A LHW Championship fight? Don’t know if they’d wanna keep Rashad and Rampage out that long but that would definitely fill out the card nicely. Not sure what they are going to do with 98 and 99 but I’m guessing the Germany card isn’t going to have a ton of star power, not unlike a lot of the overseas shows (93 being an exception). Maybe they could do Wand vs. Shogun or something like that, and they could have BJ headline 98 and that would set up the first half of the year rather nicely.

Mir was injured in his fight with Nog? Must’ve busted up his hand punching Nog in the face so many times.

No, he didn’t. The quote says he took little damage, meaning he didn’t really get hurt.

I’m going to be in Montreal during UFC 97 – fingers crossed I can get tix – shouldn’t be a big deal – I’d love to see either Mir/Lesnar or GSP vs anyone….What do y’all think of a WAND/Spider Silva match?

I would be since he said he wants to fight three more times in 2009 and then retire with a UFC fight at the end of the year.

CroCop vs. Liddell in Dec. 2009. ?

One fight Deal in UFC?

I don’t expect the UFC fight to happen. Dana and Co. don’t do one-fight deals, especially if there’s no chance of him re-signing (like in a retirement). Crocop should know this.

by Demogorgo on Jan 7, 2009 4:00 AM EST up reply actions

So he signs a multi-fight deal

and then doesn’t agree to any more fights after the “retirement fight”.

The UFC isn’t going to come after him sitting in Croatia after his fight.

If Anderson wins then it really heats up a potential Anderson/GSP fight.

So youre assuming GSP wins over BJ?
