Din Thomas On His Drop to 145

Star-divide

Din Thomas Interview - the mma fiend Andrew J. Yount sat down with Din Thomas and got some info on why he decided to drop, as well as who he would like to fight:
On his decision to drop to 145. Going to 145 was always the goal. I was still in the octagon after my fight with Josh Neer when I made the decision to go to 145. That was the reason I bowed to the crowd after the decision. I knew that would be the last time my bare feet would grace the canvas of the octagon. I had one fight left with the UFC on my contract. I don’t know if they would have dropped me or not. But I just felt like, I had gotten so close to getting the title and failed that it was time to move on and try a different strategy to prove my worth. 155 is so deep in the US and Japan, and two loses in a row set me back so far. 145 has some good fighters but the depth isn’t the same. I could be fighting the top guys after just a few fights." On who he would like to fight. "My goal was to go down and get a crack at Urijah Faber. But he lost his title to Mike Brown. I don’t think Faber can beat Brown. Hell, I don’t think I can beat Mike Brown and we train together. There’s only one other guy out there that I would like to fight at 145 and that’s Kid Yamamoto. He’s the champ in Japan and he’s fun to watch. I think a fight with him could go in the record books."

“I don’t think Faber can beat Brown.”

After seeing how brown manhandled him in the clinch, I don’t think faber can beat him either.

Did they fight at 155 when Din submitted Jens many years ago?

Man, I just want to see Din fight. The guy has a lot of skills. He completely dominated Rich Clementi and won a decision over Guida before messing his knee up in the Florian fight and then the subsequent loss to Neer. I think Din may be selling himself short, but I’ve been a fan of his since he was on TUF.

I don't like this move for Din.

He was fine at 155. I think he could have taken Florian, If he hadn’t blown his knee. There were some good fights waiting for him in that division. I would have liked to see how he would have handled Sherk, or if he had the tools to beat Penn in a rematch. Then again, maybe he’s not conifident that he could beat those guys, and he thinks it would be easy pickings for him at 145. I think he’s in for a rude awakening. The WEC featherweights are no joke.

He’d probably be better served to stay at 155lbs. and move to WEC, so I agree in that regard.

I think if the weight cut doesn’t affect his game, he will be a dominant force. He was great when he came back in the UFC. He blew out his knee against Florian, plus Florian beats everyone. The difference between 155 and 145 is huge. Faber lost to Griffin at 155 but he has dominated for years at 145. Faber will be fine too, i think he just got to that point where he was too comfortable because he was beating so many people. I think that is why he got beat.
