Head Stomps And Head Kicks relevance in MMA Today

I watched a couple of old fight videos of what the UFC is pegging the former #1 light heavyweight "Shogun"  in there latest ppv ufc 93. He won a lot of those fights by head stomp or kicking an opponent to the head while the opponent was down. Using pride rules.Racking up the wins.  Coleman will beat him by strength and talent because what shogun showed during the Griffin fight was a fighter that was unwilling to adapt to the american or octagon style of fighting. Thoughts?

Coleman

would probably allow Shogun to use stomps and soccer kicks if he’s allowed to head butt.

Very nice.

He’d probably let him use soccer kicks and stomps if he were allowed to use knees to the head of a downed opponent.

There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.

I don’t think shogun is going to be a world beater he looked like in pride in the UFC

stomps and soccer kicks were HUGE for him.

Honestly, I think many of hte top LHW will pick him apart on the feet.

that said… he will still beat a 40 year old one dimensional, weight cutting, no roid coleman

Shogun was out struck by Cyrille Diabate. Just saying

Don’t forget him getting outstruck by KazNak (and Cyborg). Not that it’s really embarassing for him. He somehow picked up a rep as a striker when he beat down lifeless Rampage and a few smaller Japanese dudes, but his bread and butter has always been his vicious GnP.

I like that better than the Rocky Penguin.

Did you know we are in high demand, Laura?

I wish they would bring back stomps, soccer kicks and knees to a ground opponent back to MMA.

Agreed.

Sure, it’s a little more violent. But the whole sport is violent. It’s also more realistic – why would a fighting style NOT incorporate such techniques? It’s against the rules, yes, but it’s for a purely arbitrary reason.

Not that it will ever be changed, at least not in the US. The precedent has been set and that will be that.

BTW

Coleman beat Shogun by freak arm injury. Shogun was being taken down and he posted his arm and it broke.

Thats not the point

Silva, Shogun, and others all used soccer kicks and they dont look the same. The rules of the octagon have changed most pride fighters. And I bet you Coleman beats shogun.I’ll put money on it! Look at silva, the one win he has in the octagon beating Keith Jardine. He was coming in as Jardine was making a body kick and Silva was coming in with his trademark haymakers. Honestly fluke. I hate Jardine but most pride fighters namely Shogun haven’t made the transition to the octagon very nicely

BUTTE REPRESENT

but seriously….
the problem here is shogun and coleman need to prove their conditioning. coleman is what, 45? hasnt fought in forever, hasnt fought high caliber opponents in even longer? fail…unless you have the perfect matchup. enter shogun, the guy who lost to forrest wtf griffin. from what i saw, striking isnt gonna matter, its the gas tank.
shogun looked like a twelve year old girl compared to the monster that was of pride. he used soccer kicks because that was the optimum strike to use at that time to cause the most damage. it shouldnt matter what the striking rules are in what organization. its the type of strike that will cause the most amount of damage to win the fight, within the rules of the organization. it shouldnt matter if its a texas ball drop, if it wins fights and the judges allow it, drop them balls.
but i digest…
shogun is gonna gas, coleman is gonna gas, we are gonna get another gonzaga vs jordan. im callin steve mazzagatti by eye gouge round 2

His last opponent was Fedor. It doesn’t get higher caliber than that.
