Sengoku 7 Open Discussion Thread

I just wanted to open up an article so that we can have some discussion as the Sengoku show takes place.  I'll be doing my best to stay up and watch the entire show...but I am already feeling a little bit tired so we'll see how long I last.  So rather than live blog the show myself lets all just throw our thoughts in the comment section here and we should get a little bit of dialogue going.

Please don't flood the comment section with questions of where to watch the show.  I personally will not broadcast where I'm watching the show due to site liability issues.  If I direct you to a streaming source you will likely then have a streaming source for UFC/Affliction..etc PPV's and I personally believe in paying for shows that you have legal means of watching.  Streaming a show like this that you otherwise can not see I have no problem with.  But still, this is a thread for the discussion of the show...not for begging for stream sources.  Using basic google searches should provide you with plenty of options.

What time does it start?

by Phildo on Jan 4, 2009 12:26 AM EST reply actions

2am EST, 11pm PST. I think.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 12:34 AM EST up reply actions

King Mo by KO in 2mins. Gomi by boredom in Rd2. Antonio Silva by amputation Rd1.

by Benicio on Jan 4, 2009 12:30 AM EST reply actions

I think Silva/Nakao is closer than most people are giving it credit for.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 12:35 AM EST reply actions

I’ll be staying up…. roll call? Who else is in?

by Nick Thomas on Jan 4, 2009 12:48 AM EST reply actions

Maybeness.

Did you know we are in high demand, Laura?

by Eugene Schelfaut on Jan 4, 2009 12:54 AM EST up reply actions

I’m in…

WAR CAFFEINE!!!

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 12:56 AM EST up reply actions

We’ll see how far I get.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 1:05 AM EST up reply actions

Considering Jap events usually start at like 5AM here, this actually feels early. I just grabbed Dynamite the day after, but I’m sticking around for this one. Sengoku shows usually have a very good pace, no huge intermissions or pointless stuff like the K-1 Koshien tournament.

by smoogy on Jan 4, 2009 1:46 AM EST up reply actions

I’ll be here, although its merely 6pm so it’s hardly an achievement.

by Sam Cupitt on Jan 4, 2009 2:00 AM EST up reply actions

Does anyone else like Sergey Golyaev at +195?

by KneesnBows on Jan 4, 2009 12:57 AM EST reply actions

He has a puncher’s chance, but I think his ground game is shit. For some reason Gomi never exploited it; near the end of the fight, he just kind of stepped right into mount like it was nothing.

by smoogy on Jan 4, 2009 1:47 AM EST up reply actions

I’m in. And I don’t think Golyaev is worth anything less than +250-260.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 1:02 AM EST reply actions

You know..

I wasn’t aware that was no legal source of transmission for this program, so people being dicks and calling others beggars is entirely ridiculous. Someone could have said as much in another thread instead of humiliating people.

by Blackout612 on Jan 4, 2009 1:13 AM EST reply actions

Good work on outing yourself as a beggar. It’s not he mentioned any names.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 1:21 AM EST up reply actions

Huzzah!

I’d made mention in another thread, repeatedly. I don’t get HDnet or some of the other satellite feeds, but training partners and friends do. A simple allusion to the fact that it isn’t being aired on said waves would have sufficed.

It’s not he mentioned any names

Good work on putting yourself out as a scholar.

by Blackout612 on Jan 4, 2009 1:48 AM EST up reply actions

Nah..

It’s all good. I’ll watch it tomorrow. I probably better bounce this thread before it gets spoiled.

by Blackout612 on Jan 4, 2009 1:50 AM EST up reply actions

There is...

They’re called tickets; one for the plane, one for the show.

IMO, people just act like there’s no other way because of the ridiculous amount work it would take to see this show legally, and they don’t want to feel like a thief.

by EnsignFrog on Jan 4, 2009 1:34 AM EST up reply actions

That's fun..

You’re taking his explanation as my own. I have no desire to steal this program.

I’ll keep your reply in mind in future conversations.

by Blackout612 on Jan 4, 2009 1:49 AM EST up reply actions

How can you steal that which is unavailable to buy though? Sengoku is losing absolutely nothing in potential sales.

by smoogy on Jan 4, 2009 1:51 AM EST up reply actions

But it is...

Just nobody in there right mind would travel to japan just to buy it.

I’m not saying people streaming it are doing something wrong, I have no problem with it; I actually stream all the MMA PPV’s I can’t afford.. But people are saying there’s no way to get it legally, and that’s just not true.

by EnsignFrog on Jan 4, 2009 2:19 AM EST up reply actions

Also...

I wouldn’t call it “stealing” either.

by EnsignFrog on Jan 4, 2009 2:21 AM EST up reply actions

Dude...

chill. I know this is a bit late but you still need to hear it. This is a pretty popular blog with a big readership…if we are trying to say something to a single person directly we will e-mail you. This is not the first time we have ran a stream dependent results thread and the previous times have involved a lot of people begging for links to sites for streams. I was trying to avoid that.

Again, everything that is written on this site is not directed at you individually.

I'm here for the long haul...

Just gettin tired of waiting… watching the Bisping vs Evans PPV at the moment… forgot what number it is.

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 4, 2009 1:29 AM EST reply actions

Is that what I'm watching?

I just tuned in and caught the end of the Herman-Doerksen fight

by flassasin24 on Jan 4, 2009 1:32 AM EST up reply actions

Ok yeah it is...

Ugh I hope Sengoku comes up before that joke of a fight

by flassasin24 on Jan 4, 2009 1:33 AM EST up reply actions

I missed this PPV

Chonan vs Parysian…. ought to be interesting

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 4, 2009 1:36 AM EST reply actions

Ok I’m sure I’m retarded for not knowing, but what is FTW?

by flassasin24 on Jan 4, 2009 1:37 AM EST reply actions

oh..

I thought its something like WTF but typo’d.. hehehe..

by Johann on Jan 4, 2009 1:41 AM EST up reply actions

Don't feel bad..

I didn’t know either…. thanks for asking… lol

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 4, 2009 1:38 AM EST up reply actions

Wow… I don’t remember Karo coming out to Bad to the Bone!

Haha… how cheesedick!

by flassasin24 on Jan 4, 2009 1:39 AM EST reply actions

Holy hell, this was before the Affliction ban. Damn, that feels like ages ago.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 1:40 AM EST reply actions

Well, I don’t want to spoil your night, but Affliction gets banned.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 1:42 AM EST up reply actions

Lol...

WHY GOD……………WHY MUST YOU DO THIS???

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 4, 2009 1:42 AM EST up reply actions

I still can’t believe Chonan beat Andeson Silva back in the day

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 4, 2009 1:42 AM EST reply actions

flying scissors heel hooks ftw the name is as cool as the move itself

by Sokonojudo on Jan 4, 2009 1:43 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah..

that was some wicked move by Chonan..

by Johann on Jan 4, 2009 1:43 AM EST up reply actions

Did anyone elses feed freeze? Or is it my POS (piece of shit) computer?

by nitro on Jan 4, 2009 1:44 AM EST reply actions

mine’s good… but I’m fearing that happening during a live fight. During the Koscheck-Alves fight my feed starting stalling and it was basically like watching a slideshow of the fight

by flassasin24 on Jan 4, 2009 1:46 AM EST reply actions

I think it’s Mo Lawal and Choi Mu Bae.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 1:48 AM EST up reply actions

Wasn't it Choi Mu Bae

that got the DDT victory over Mark Kerr?

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 4, 2009 1:50 AM EST up reply actions

Dang. Thanks for the heads up.

9. LW: Takanori Gomi (69.8kg / 153.5lbs) vs. Satoru Kitaoka (70kg / 154lbs)

by smoogy on Jan 4, 2009 2:08 AM EST up reply actions

Anyone else read the sherdog article on Kitaoka?

"He looks strong, but I think I hate him; I don’t know why," Kitaoka said. "After this fight, I don’t think I’ll ever talk to him ever again, no matter the result."

"I told Aoki, from here on out, I’ll make it so that you won’t ever hear anything about Gomi anymore," Kitaoka said.

Damn…it’s serious.

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 1:48 AM EST reply actions

I read that, definitely adds an element of drama to the fight. I wanna see Mo Lawal fight.

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 4, 2009 1:50 AM EST up reply actions

Sengoku entrances

Does Sengoku have dramatic entrances like Dream/Pride or more toned down ones like the UFC?

by Sokonojudo on Jan 4, 2009 1:54 AM EST reply actions

It’s like a toned down PRIDE

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 1:56 AM EST up reply actions

I’d catch a stream if I felt like throwing my back out looking at the choppy ass video.

I’ll just live the results with you guys and catch the videos later.

by Sam Cupitt on Jan 4, 2009 2:07 AM EST reply actions

The stream is not choppy, not very high res, but pretty smooth.

by nitro on Jan 4, 2009 2:08 AM EST up reply actions

Guess it’s not starting at 2am?

by Nick Thomas on Jan 4, 2009 2:08 AM EST reply actions

I'm waiting on it

Just a few more minutes and the stream will be up from the voice himself

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 2:08 AM EST reply actions

Should be, Sherdog’s play by play says its up to the King Mo fight…so if it isnt live i guess not.

by Sam Cupitt on Jan 4, 2009 2:09 AM EST reply actions

Anyone one else getting a Houston Alexander/Thiago Silva fight. I would have thought the stream would have kicked in by now

by Sokonojudo on Jan 4, 2009 2:09 AM EST reply actions

yeah its on that right now

but it should be switching over any minute now. I don’t know how much work it is to link through to a stream from Japan or Korea but it can’t be that easy

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 2:10 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah the “voice” said it should be starting shortly

by Sokonojudo on Jan 4, 2009 2:12 AM EST up reply actions

If you’re on the stream that I think you’re on, I believe they usually time it so that the end of the replay corresponds with the start of the broadcast. But sometimes they are off so maybe it’ll just kick in soon.

by Sam Cupitt on Jan 4, 2009 2:11 AM EST up reply actions

I think it’s just taking a little bit of time to connect

by flassasin24 on Jan 4, 2009 2:10 AM EST reply actions

I liked how Herman showed up to the weigh ins in a suit without a shirt.

Its always cool when a non-japanese fighter goes over to Japan and embraces a character or a persona.

by Sam Cupitt on Jan 4, 2009 2:13 AM EST reply actions

Also who we got?

Misaki or Santiago?

Gomi or Kitaako?

by Sam Cupitt on Jan 4, 2009 2:14 AM EST reply actions

Misaki and Gomi, but I hope that Kitaoka takes it.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 2:16 AM EST up reply actions

by FRANKIE on Jan 4, 2009 2:57 AM EST up reply actions

It kinda looked like Mitsuoka let it go before he tapped or the ref got in. Might have tweeked it into an injury call.

by Eugene Schelfaut on Jan 4, 2009 3:10 AM EST reply actions

Oh man, this is the sort of quality one expects from Sengoku. Knee injury stoppage, no tap submissions, and an undefeated prospect getting ruined by a crappy journeyman.

by D.Capitated on Jan 4, 2009 3:10 AM EST reply actions

I guess he tweaked his knee or something?

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 3:10 AM EST reply actions

People aren’t used to intermissions unless you’ve been to a live event or watched Japanese MMA before. Because the UFC only makes time for 5 full fights after their intermission

that wasn’t from tonight but it looked the same. Girls had on catsuits. Mo is a true pimp

by Sokonojudo on Jan 4, 2009 3:42 AM EST up reply actions

IMO, catsuits are gross. He should stick to the bikini top/skirt thing…

by EnsignFrog on Jan 4, 2009 3:44 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah Mo in a bikini looks better than him in a catsuit.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 3:45 AM EST up reply actions

I probably should have worded that a bit better…

by EnsignFrog on Jan 4, 2009 3:46 AM EST up reply actions

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 3:47 AM EST up reply actions

Tonight’s was better because he just stood there at the entrance and starting shimmying

Intermission

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 3:45 AM EST up reply actions

He’s looked really good so far, hopefully he can keep uo his Mo-mentum.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 3:50 AM EST reply actions

I wonder how much Mo-mentum it takes to equal a quart of Riddum.

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 3:52 AM EST up reply actions

From Sherdog:

Lawal asks the crowd to chant "King Mo" with him. Lawal puts the mic up to referee Kimura as well, and gets two very un-enthusiastic chants from him. Kimura fights to not crack a smile.

The extra clinical description only makes it funnier.

Btw, that’s a link to the Play-by-play, so spoilers. Watch out!

I’m confused as hell. Okami is there. The Ishii comes out with a UFC shirt on.

Is it because of training camps or something?

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 4:15 AM EST reply actions

Restart = Stand them up

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 4:33 AM EST up reply actions

yes

Yoshida defended correctly. it wasn’t going anywhere. Gotta love the japanese

by Nick Travaglini on Jan 4, 2009 4:34 AM EST up reply actions

Oh, okay. The connection is pretty choppy here, so I didn’t see how Yoshida defended. Thanks.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 4:35 AM EST up reply actions

Yoshida must hit like a cheerleader

He connect flush with him about 5 times in that round and didn’t drop him.

by Nick Travaglini on Jan 4, 2009 4:37 AM EST reply actions

I give that to Yoshida.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 4:38 AM EST reply actions

Man armbar! Or head-arm choke.

God.

That looked like a fight between two brothers over the breakage of a new toy.

by RoyalB on Jan 4, 2009 4:41 AM EST reply actions

And it was still better than Saku/Tamura.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 4:42 AM EST up reply actions

So who gets the win White trunks or Red/Blue ?

by Sokonojudo on Jan 4, 2009 4:41 AM EST reply actions

That was positively awful.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 4:42 AM EST reply actions

I thought it was a fun fight.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 4:43 AM EST up reply actions

Yoshida’s done.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 4:42 AM EST reply actions

if this was a ten point must system

I think kikuta would win via a 10-8 third round. But this is japanese so who knows

by Nick Travaglini on Jan 4, 2009 4:43 AM EST reply actions

A split decision? HOW?

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 4:43 AM EST reply actions

I’m wondering the same thing

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 4:44 AM EST up reply actions

I gave Yoshida round 2.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 4:44 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah but the whole fight?

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 4:44 AM EST up reply actions

I gave Yoshida round 2 as well, but he clearly lost 1 and 3. But the japanese judge on the whole of the fight….Yoshida was mounted for like 5-6 minutes!

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 4:45 AM EST up reply actions

Yoshida would have dominated if he was wearing his Gi.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 4:45 AM EST up reply actions

And worked on his mount escapes.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 4:46 AM EST up reply actions

this is a championship fight should be 5 rounds

That was a close round, I didn’t agree with that restart though.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 5:14 AM EST reply actions

I perfer restarts when there is no action

MMA is a sport not a fight. If there is a clinch with no action break and restart so they aren’t stalling

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:15 AM EST up reply actions

There were some good knees though.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 5:16 AM EST up reply actions

Gif those flying knees!

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 5:17 AM EST reply actions

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 5:27 AM EST up reply actions

Jesus, Misaki HANDED him his arm there. He’s lucky he got that reversal. Right now though, it’s clearly Misaki. Santiago needs to come out firing.

I don’t have Jorge winning a round yet.

by tomh on Jan 4, 2009 5:27 AM EST up reply actions

That last round was pretty enjoyable.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 5:27 AM EST reply actions

3 rounds to 1

I think Santiago took the second round via dropping misaki. all the others are misaki in my opinion

by Nick Travaglini on Jan 4, 2009 5:28 AM EST reply actions

oh

right. Almost forgot about that.

3-1 misaki.

by Discman2 on Jan 4, 2009 5:29 AM EST up reply actions

Santiago had dominant position for a full minute in the last round

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 5:31 AM EST reply actions

Probably the best fight of all the New year shows so far.

by Michael Rome on Jan 4, 2009 5:32 AM EST up reply actions

Understatement

Its the first fight of the year candidate, and ANOTHER instance of Santiago successfully winning in the last round via stoppage when his back was against the wall. Talk about setting the bar high for 2009.

by smoogy on Jan 4, 2009 5:36 AM EST up reply actions

It will never win for FotY

because it wasn’t in the UFC so it doesn’t matter :/

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:37 AM EST up reply actions

The real struggle...

is that something from the very start of the year has a hard time being remembered as fondly come the end of the year when there is a big load of fresh hotness in everyone’s head.

Still, very good fight

I wouldn’t go that far, personally. It wasn’t exactly full of action.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 5:37 AM EST up reply actions

Insofar as it was the best fight of the only fight card of the year so far, sure. Until UFC 93.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 5:39 AM EST up reply actions

good fight, not FOTY worthy

by Discman2 on Jan 4, 2009 5:38 AM EST up reply actions

Misaki left his neck open for the RNC. Terrible mistake for Miskai. he was winning that fight

by Discman2 on Jan 4, 2009 5:31 AM EST reply actions

Damn. Good fight and a big win for Santiago.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 5:32 AM EST reply actions

Man, good fight. Bad mistake by Misaki.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 5:32 AM EST reply actions

A nice standup battle being won by Misaki followed up by a great takedown and sub by Santiago for the comeback.

Great fight.

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 5:32 AM EST reply actions

no. he was being handled up until the RNC

by Discman2 on Jan 4, 2009 5:33 AM EST up reply actions

He was holding his own with the # 6 or 7 MW in the world, then finished him. Hard to argue with.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 5:34 AM EST up reply actions

Truth. 7 or 8 to me.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 5:33 AM EST up reply actions

I have Santiago sitting around 5

and Misaki around 10. And both throughly beating Marquardts ass at this point.

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:39 AM EST up reply actions

just off the top of my head, consensus top 5 is generally what? Anderson, Franklin, Henderson, Lindland…yeah I guess you can argue pushing them in there at the 5 slot, especially if Franklin is now out.

I hope Jorge stays in Sengoku. No desire at all to see him vs. Anderson.

by Michael Rome on Jan 4, 2009 5:40 AM EST up reply actions

Only the 3rd guy to ever finish Misaki, 2nd by sub.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 5:32 AM EST reply actions

Yup

Impressive performance by both… Dumb mistake by Misaki. He was tired though and that shit happens

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:33 AM EST up reply actions

I like that Jorge just put his shades back on.

by tomh on Jan 4, 2009 5:32 AM EST reply actions

Who the hell knows what Jorge is talking about.

by Michael Rome on Jan 4, 2009 5:35 AM EST reply actions

Ha.

Did you know we are in high demand, Laura?

by Eugene Schelfaut on Jan 4, 2009 5:36 AM EST up reply actions

Matt Hamill’s last post fight interview was better.

by Michael Rome on Jan 4, 2009 5:38 AM EST up reply actions

something about America having Moroccans, Japanese and Mexicans too.

by Discman2 on Jan 4, 2009 5:37 AM EST up reply actions

I just joined the broadcast for this fight. Also kinda hammered. What is up with Ishii in the UFC shirt at Sengoku? Partnership going on? Buy out?

by Michael Rome on Jan 4, 2009 5:36 AM EST reply actions

He did some speech earlier in the broadcast, Sherdog have a transcript. Said he’s going to fight in the US, but was being pretty shady on the whole.

by tomh on Jan 4, 2009 5:38 AM EST up reply actions

no one knows

Ishii came out and spoke to the crowd. Sherdog play by play has tghe translation, seemed like non sense to me. Also, Okami was in the ring speakin but have no idea what her said. Very curious myself so if you find out please share.

by Nick Travaglini on Jan 4, 2009 5:38 AM EST up reply actions

Ishii was just saying hi apparently.

Saying it wasn’t him fighting Bob Sapp and that he will be fighting stateside, but will return sometime.

by Sam Cupitt on Jan 4, 2009 5:38 AM EST up reply actions

They did a couple segment with Okami, then Ishii in the ring addressing the crowd. Ishii said he will go to USA to collect a souveneir then return to Japan.

by smoogy on Jan 4, 2009 5:38 AM EST up reply actions

Nakamura’s a hippie and formed a space ninja crime fighting force.

They can form Voltron and everything.

by RoyalB on Jan 4, 2009 5:40 AM EST up reply actions

So that’s two straight MW tournaments won followed up by a MW title. That’s a damn good run so far.

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 5:37 AM EST reply actions

Next up, THE MAN! FIREBALL KID!

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 5:38 AM EST reply actions

hey i'm streamin it now

but joined the event at yoshida fight (which was hella boring) – what other fights are worth watching?

no spoilers pls – i didn’t read the top half of this thread

by rainmaker6 on Jan 4, 2009 5:39 AM EST reply actions

The Mo fight…that’s pretty much it.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 5:41 AM EST up reply actions

Pee Wee Herman fight. Insanely good.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 5:41 AM EST up reply actions

Also the Antonio Silva fight.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 5:41 AM EST up reply actions

The Mo Lawal fight is worth it for the entrance alone.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 5:41 AM EST up reply actions

i'm calling kitoaka by sub

gomi prob hasn’t trained that hard…

by rainmaker6 on Jan 4, 2009 5:41 AM EST reply actions

Yoshida fight wasn't that boring

The earlier fights were pretty bad except for Watching Mo do his thing

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:41 AM EST reply actions

Gomi via grenade hands.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 5:41 AM EST reply actions

Santiago may be the best MW outside the UFC but Misaki exposed his striking weaknesses.

by Sokonojudo on Jan 4, 2009 5:41 AM EST reply actions

Mousasi

then Santiago, then Manhoef/Jacare/Misaki/Robbie Lawler are the best outside the UFC… And they are 3,4,5,6,7 in my book With Silva and Hendo 1 and 2

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:44 AM EST up reply actions

I left out Okami and feel bad for it butUFC MW class is disgustingly weak

I’ve never considered Marquardt top 10 and Rich Franklin is a borderline top 10

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:45 AM EST up reply actions

Franklin and Marquardt are both top ten. I’d pick Franklin over any of those guys not in the UFC.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 5:46 AM EST up reply actions

Franklin's never beat anybody

He did nothing against Okami except lose if it was PRIDE rules and should ahve been a draw with a 10-8 round if judged like Griffen vs Forrest

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:49 AM EST up reply actions

Marquardt's only good win

Is Misaki 15 fights ago when Ed herman was the best fighter he had beat. And Franklins is against Okami in a horrible fight where Okami would have won under Pride rules

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:53 AM EST up reply actions

They both fought knowing it was UFC rules. It’s as relevant as the outcome in international gymnastics rules. Franklin’s beat everyone ever put in front of him besides the two guys that are probably the best in the world at their weight class. He destroyed Matt Hamill and made him look like a punk kid. The fight with Henderson will be very close.

by Michael Rome on Jan 4, 2009 5:57 AM EST up reply actions

You have him above Okami? I dunno, I have a hard time with those back to back losses to guys like Chris Leben and Alan Belcher.

Franklin below Santiago is insane, he would tear him up. Dude got out struck by Chris Leben.

by Michael Rome on Jan 4, 2009 5:46 AM EST up reply actions

forgot about Mousasi. K-1 matches mess up my brain plus he talks about 205lbs.

by Sokonojudo on Jan 4, 2009 5:46 AM EST up reply actions

Misaki does that to everyone he fights though. I’d still put Santiago’s striking well ahead of most other top 10 middleweights.

by George Lucas on Jan 4, 2009 4:07 PM EST up reply actions

Long johns FTW!!

by RoyalB on Jan 4, 2009 5:42 AM EST reply actions

Kitaoka is a more jacked Aoki...

But this is a bad style matchup. Gomi doesn’t have to worry about his hands at all so he can focus on wrestling and counterpunching. Bad setup for Kitaoka. But maybe he can pull off a miracle or suck Gomi into trying to GnP.

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:43 AM EST reply actions

mousasi is the best mw outside ufc

kitaoka is doing his best retard impression….i think he’s a good fighter but he acts like such a douche…..

by rainmaker6 on Jan 4, 2009 5:43 AM EST reply actions

Kitaoka is scary as hell. And not really in a cool way, either.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 5:43 AM EST reply actions

would it be wrong of me to sat that Kitoaka looks….. slow? And I don’t mean physically

by Discman2 on Jan 4, 2009 5:43 AM EST reply actions

What? Like Jett slow?

Yes…I went there folks.

by RoyalB on Jan 4, 2009 5:44 AM EST up reply actions

He looks a little confused by everything.

Did you know we are in high demand, Laura?

by Eugene Schelfaut on Jan 4, 2009 5:44 AM EST up reply actions

wtf

why is he acting such a retard….

by rainmaker6 on Jan 4, 2009 5:44 AM EST reply actions

It’s on purpose. He thinks it makes him look “crazy”. I think it makes him look “retarded”. There’s a big difference.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 5:45 AM EST reply actions

now i want gomi to put his lights out…

by rainmaker6 on Jan 4, 2009 5:46 AM EST reply actions

My stream muted the anthem

SOPcast

the only way to go. Not one stumble tonight.

by Nick Travaglini on Jan 4, 2009 5:48 AM EST reply actions

gomi looks thin

dunno if it means he hasn’t trained

by rainmaker6 on Jan 4, 2009 5:48 AM EST reply actions

Honest to God. Kitaoka looks like he spent his childhood eating nothing but glue.

by Rundownloser on Jan 4, 2009 5:49 AM EST reply actions

Barf

I’m a mog. Half man, half dog. I’m my own best friend.

Not sure why but your post reminded me of that quote

by Nick Travaglini on Jan 4, 2009 5:49 AM EST reply actions

Kitaoka is not human…

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 5:50 AM EST reply actions

and here comes the heel hhok

by Discman2 on Jan 4, 2009 5:50 AM EST reply actions

ha ha. wow. like aoki all over again, de ja vu.

by Michael Rome on Jan 4, 2009 5:51 AM EST reply actions

Kitaoka: Don’t You Know I’m LOCOOOOO!!!

by RoyalB on Jan 4, 2009 5:51 AM EST reply actions

Gomi got embarassed, yet again

by Discman2 on Jan 4, 2009 5:51 AM EST reply actions

Gomi shouldn't have thrown him

Same thing Alvarez did

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:51 AM EST reply actions

I hate the world right now.

by Tim Burke on Jan 4, 2009 5:52 AM EST reply actions

He should have never went to the ground…

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 5:52 AM EST reply actions

Holy Shirt.

Gomi’s sliding down.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 5:52 AM EST reply actions

Naw…Kitaoka’s leg locks are fucking deadly…

by Tonley on Jan 4, 2009 5:53 AM EST up reply actions

Better at them than Aoki

So if he was gonna win that would be the way

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:55 AM EST up reply actions

That was abrupt.

Did you know we are in high demand, Laura?

by Eugene Schelfaut on Jan 4, 2009 5:53 AM EST reply actions

Remember when BJ Penn vs. Gomi 2 was a big fight?

by Michael Rome on Jan 4, 2009 5:53 AM EST reply actions

heel hock, achilles lock, kneebar, I couldn’t really tell. Best guess would be a heel hook

by Sokonojudo on Jan 4, 2009 5:54 AM EST reply actions

That’ll do pig, that’ll do

by Discman2 on Jan 4, 2009 5:55 AM EST reply actions

Gomi

is limping pretty good. wonder if he did any serious damage

by Nick Travaglini on Jan 4, 2009 5:55 AM EST reply actions

Now Gomi will go to the UFC

and dominate everybody but BJ and prove that the UFC LW class is inferior

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:57 AM EST reply actions

And ok night, some great fights and some really anused ones.

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 5:57 AM EST reply actions

kitaoka is good

Give him credit – he acts like a total douche but he is a good fighter. Gomi nubbed out by going to ground.

Gomi is still relevant but he’s no longer top 5 – maybe not even top 10. Lets see him string some wins together.

by rainmaker6 on Jan 4, 2009 5:58 AM EST reply actions

Kitaoka is on roids

He can’t possibly be built like that naturally

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 4, 2009 5:58 AM EST reply actions

I hear his nutritionist is Alistair Overeem

by Discman2 on Jan 4, 2009 5:59 AM EST up reply actions

alright. bedtime

gentlemen, its been a pleasure. Enjoy your sunday. I am gonna go grab 4 hours of sleep.

by Nick Travaglini on Jan 4, 2009 5:58 AM EST reply actions

roids or not he would have won that fight

Gomi’s ground game is below average and Kitaoka’s is near Aoki level

by rainmaker6 on Jan 4, 2009 6:00 AM EST reply actions

Will WAMMA pair them for undisputed WAMMA status? :)

by Pandanus on Jan 4, 2009 6:02 AM EST up reply actions
