Rumors Swirling That Karo Parisyan Might Pull Out of UFC 94 Bout Against Dong Hyun Kim

Rick Story on deck if Karo Parisyan can’t go at UFC 94:

MMAmania.com has learned that there are concerns that Karo Parisyan will pull out of his upcoming bout against Dong Hyun "Stun Gun" Kim at UFC 94: "St. Pierre vs. Penn 2″at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, this Saturday night (Jan.31).

Accordingly, the promotion has opted to line up a “Plan B” just in case “The Heat” needs to get out of the kitchen less than 48 hours before fight night. Newcomer Rick Story is waiting in the wings, cutting weight and getting ready to make his Octagon debut against Kim if called upon.

Story is a veteran of the Elite Warriors Championship (EWC) circuit up in Oregon. In fact, he has plied his trade primarily in the northwest, winning seven of nine pro fights. He is currently on a six fight win streak — all of which took place in 2008.

I'm hoping this doesn't turn out to be the case. I'm a huge fan of Karo Parisyan and would hate to such a young and talented fighter fail to achieve his potential.

This sucks if Fitch was put on the undercard for a Karo fight and then he pulls out at the last second, again. What is up with this guy?

by Phildo on Jan 30, 2009 9:45 AM EST reply actions

Obviously, if Karo pulls out, Fitch is back on. It doesn’t suck really.

by cyph on Jan 30, 2009 11:23 AM EST up reply actions

I don’t think they’d do it that quickly. You have to think about Kim and his sponsors.

It’s not as easy as just flip flopping people.

by Phildo on Jan 30, 2009 11:26 AM EST up reply actions

The UFC has done that before when a main event fighter pulls out. It’s a gamble for the sponsors that their fighters get shown, like the undercard fighters. If they’re smart, they put it down in the contract that pay is contingent upon being shown.

by cyph on Jan 30, 2009 11:30 AM EST up reply actions

It’s probably contingent, and that’s why the UFC can’t just automatically switch it. They’d be literally taking money out of Kim’s pockets by making the switch, which isn’t fair to him.

by Phildo on Jan 31, 2009 12:06 AM EST up reply actions

Bro I hope he doesn't dissapoint his biggest fan bro, himself.Bro.

If this is true I think he’s got some issue’s to work out seriously. Maybe he’s got crazy anxiety. Maybe he doesn’t like Asians. I like watching him fight but can’t stand the excuses he makes for himself when he loses. Buck up little camper and kick some ass. It looks like a great fight on paper. Judoka vs Judoka. He seem to have lost his way since he left Gokor and Gene’s camp which is strange because he left them to go to a more MMA style of training. I heard he was with extreme Couture then I heard Craig Jackson either way it seemed like a good move for his MMA career.

most retarded reply ever?

by lbk on Jan 30, 2009 9:58 AM EST up reply actions

“Maybe he doesn’t like Asians.”

That was the line that did it for me..

by lbk on Jan 30, 2009 9:58 AM EST up reply actions

I dunno

I think Karo’s inability to process women fighting when they should be at home making babies, and guys like Brock who “don’t like homos” lead some of us to assume that many of these fighters may be a little un-PC.

by asa on Jan 30, 2009 11:30 AM EST up reply actions

odds are both fights will make ppv.

If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

by BJJDenver on Jan 30, 2009 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

Depends...

on what the ratio is of finishes on the main card. Because I think Fitch/Gono goes 3 rounds, so they’d need a lot of time to put the fight into the broadcast if that is the case.

I thought it was funny

by Farthammer on Jan 30, 2009 12:12 PM EST up reply actions

And Fitch

will still be on the undercard because you don’t say no to the UFC

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 30, 2009 10:01 AM EST reply actions

Or because it would be fucked up to put Kim on the undercard 2 days before his fight because the other guy pulled out.

We learned last week that Heiron almost lost 15,000 because his fight wasn’t aired when it was supposed to be. I’m sure Kim’s sponsors wouldn’t appreciate a last second swtich either.

by Phildo on Jan 30, 2009 10:04 AM EST up reply actions

Except

Heiron works for a company that cares about fighters and his fight will show on Inside MMA and threw him an interview slot

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 30, 2009 5:41 PM EST up reply actions

Right, because Dana is evil and Attencio cares about fighters.

How is he caring for Rothwell, Sylvia and those people that had their fight canceled after the first card?

The Zuffa is Satan everyone is an angel shit is old. If they did switch the fights people would be whining that Kim got screwed, they can’t win.

I never have been a fan

He was real sour about the thiago fight and always “looks” out of shape, this just gives me one more reason to want to see him kicked out the UFC, do your job, be a professional fighter and show up to fight.

Right on man!

I am sick of his bitching all of the time & even more sick of him finding ways out of fights he is not interested in.

The source is MMA Mania as linked.

it says what you said

Nate I read it. It doesn’t really give specifics. Was it from someone in his camp? Don’t they almost always have a back up in case of injury?

you’d have to ask MMA Mania. But last time they didn’t have a substitute for Karo and had to cancel the fight.

Hope not, but

this would probably be the last straw for him in the UFC.

I didn’t like him since he’s tiff with Nate Diaz on TUF.

Not that I particularly like Nate but Karo came across like a real penis.

However I do hope everything’s ok since he is talented and is a great judoka. I really want to see him fight Dong.

Never liked him. Won’t miss him. But it’d be a bummer not to have a shot at seeing Stun Gun get him!

 Crap, I love watching Karo.

by "Mr. NC-17" on Jan 30, 2009 11:09 AM EST reply actions

Me too. I got into MMA watching Karo’s fight with Fickett. I was somewhat intrigued and then my friend showed me his fight with Diego and my mind was blown. I still consider the best fight of 2006.

I hope everything turns out okay. Even if it doesn’t though, I’m a Rick Astley-type fan: “never gonna give you up…”

Karo’s got problems guys. He’s been dealing with anxiety, said he took care of it…

But I bet he hasn’t. If he does fight, I don’t think he’s gonna have much fight in him. I hope the UFC trades this fight out for Fitch’s now…if this is the case.

I don’t want to see someone fight who dosen’t want to be fighting, I don’t pay for that.

by Kaleb Kelchner on Jan 30, 2009 11:22 AM EST reply actions

Agreed. Sounds like he needs to really take a long layoff and get his life/anxiety problems in order before stepping into the cage. He’s gonna get murdered by Kim if he’s still not well.

by lbk on Jan 30, 2009 11:36 AM EST up reply actions

He is not up there with

Filho in terms of whackyness, but he seems to be catching him with all of the bullshit he pulls.

by dnevil001 on Jan 30, 2009 11:37 AM EST up reply actions

What a shame, I like the Stun Gun and it would suck that his opponent pulls out. If Karo does in fact pull out he should be dropped, isn’t this the 2nd or 3rd fight he left in limbo just days before the encounter?

by pr0cs on Jan 30, 2009 11:27 AM EST reply actions

Ricky Story

is a good call for a replacement. If Karo is just gonna have some excuse for losing, I’d rather see Stun Gun fight Story.

So let me get this straight...

Karo may pull out of the fight because of anxiety?

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 30, 2009 12:58 PM EST reply actions

I really think some of yall should have more respect for MMA fighters...

Karo has been a warrior his entire career, and gets so much hate its ridiculous. I hope homey can get it together, and get in the cage tomorrow. He is one of the best WW’s in the world when he’s on his game, and its fucked up to disrespect him due to a disorder he has, or over that ridiculous Tuf shit with Diaz (which started off as a joke anyways)

by Loot on Jan 30, 2009 2:00 PM EST reply actions

Anyone who plays the “do you know who I am?” card, is immediately disqualified from automatic respect. Sorry, I do respect most fighters/athletes/police/firemen/doctors/bakers/clerks, etc.. but, the notion that these guys automatically deserve respect is ridiculous.

You get my respect, then you get to either keep it or lose it. Karo lost much of the respect I had for him. As for his condition, i suffer from mild anxiety, and I do realize it is a valid problem, but waiting until the last moment is completely disrespectful to fans, promoter and the other fighter, so…

If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

by BJJDenver on Jan 30, 2009 2:11 PM EST up reply actions

In an interview long after that incident Karo said that what he meant by “do you know who I am” was closer to something like ‘Do you know me? No. Why are you pissed at me if you don’t know me?’

I’ll see if I can find the interview again.

I'm betting the last minute is the exact thing causing the anxiety.

I’ll be it comes about because of the close proximity (in time) of the fight.

by Razreshat on Jan 30, 2009 2:18 PM EST up reply actions

I’m sure as well, but he is aware this is a problem, he should step back and figure out if he can get through it or not take the fight in the first place. Just my opinion.

If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

by BJJDenver on Jan 30, 2009 2:21 PM EST up reply actions

Right...

and were he to pull out I don’t think it would be crazy for the UFC to let him go. I mean, it’s a legitimate issue for him but being unable to deal with the stress of being a fighter and leaving them screwed 2 straight fights does get to the point of being unacceptable.

That was exactly my first reaction.

Don’t anyone misunderstand me, I’ve always enjoyed watching him fight, whether rooting for or against him (yes I have done both, lol). My sincere hope is that he will get through this and put on a great fight, win or lose.

However, if he does pull out again, I think he should be disciplined by the UFC in some form, and I have to wonder if the AC would consider suspending his license for some sort of mental/emotional stability reason. Not sure if they would or saying that I want them to, just a thought.

Damn, I just cannot fathom pulling this at all, let alone 2 fights in a row.

If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

by BJJDenver on Jan 30, 2009 2:50 PM EST up reply actions

He pulled out Last time due to a back injury

Against Yoshida… The anxiety problem apparently was noticed after.

by Loot on Jan 30, 2009 3:22 PM EST up reply actions

What has he done?

What did he do? shoot a puppy? lol… He’s a cat who has had tremendous battles, and compiled an 8-3 UFC record… he gets in a disagreement on TUF and now he’s a douche forever? over something that was a joke? Or is it because he disagreed with his stoppage against Alves? What exactly has Karo done that is soooo bad that he deserves half of the disrespect he gets? The only legit beef i have with Karo is the same I had with BJ to an extent… wasting potential by not utilizing a better training regimen… And even then, he has beaten most who have stood across from him in the octagon.

by Loot on Jan 30, 2009 3:26 PM EST up reply actions

It stopped being disrespectful when my cable bill has an extra $50 on the tab..

by SmytheX on Jan 30, 2009 2:58 PM EST reply actions

i just saw a pre-fight interview with karo and the guy literally sounds sick so that may be a reason why hes gonna pull out

by SmytheX on Jan 30, 2009 3:08 PM EST reply actions

Saw that on UFC.com too

He sounded very congested, but he was still talking a good fight and didn’t lay any groundwork for backing out.
