Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day at UFC 96

411 Mania reports that representatives for UFC middleweight Kendall "Da Spyder" Grove have confirmed that he will be taking on Jason "Dooms" Day at UFC 96 in March in Columbus, Ohio.

Kendall Grove's attorney Jill Baxter has confirmed to 411mania.com that the Ultimate Fighter 3 middleweight winner will take on Jason "Dooms" Day at UFC 96 in Columbus, Ohio.

Grove (9-5, 4-2 UFC), the winner of The Ultimate Fighter Season 3, last saw action in June '08 at the finale of The Ultimate Fighter Season 7 where he dominated the late Evan Tanner en-route to a decision win.

Jason Day (17-7, 1-1 UFC) fights out of the Canadian Martial Arts Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta.  Day's last fight in the Octagon was also in June '08 at UFC 85, where he was stopped by Michael Bisping in the first round via TKO.  Day was scheduled to take on Jason Lambert at UFC 88 in September, but pulled out due to injury and was replaced by (yes, another Jason) Jason MacDonald.

I am hoping Kendall can regain a winning streak, but Jason Day is no joke. Good match, but right now this card is highly disappointing.. which limits me getting my ticket.

Highly disappointing? Barely anything has been announced about it yet.

Besides this fight, the rumored UFC 96 card includes:

-Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Shane Carwin
-Brandon Vera vs. Mike Patt
-Spencer Fisher vs. Roger Huerta
-Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra
-Chuck Liddell vs. TBA
-Keith Jardine vs. TBA

Assuming they find decent opponents for Liddell and Jardine, I see this card being a blast: Carwin gets his first big test against Gonzaga; Fisher/Huerta should be a war; Hughes vs. Serra is a long-awaited (for some) grudge match.

Obviously, nothing is confirmed yet, but that’s why I think it might be wise to reserve judgment on how “disappointing” until the UFC actually starts confirming fights.

Decent opponents for Chuck and Jardine? Put them the fuck together!

Jardine already said no.

Damn

Well, boo on him, then – unless he thinks he’s in line for a title shot, but he’ll have an undefeated Brazilian in his way.

Jardine vs. Luis Cane…please, Joe Silva? Pretty please?

Now there’s a good fight.

Serra and Hughes wont fight till April/May.

Nobody knows is Keith Jardine is going to be fighting on that card, where did you see Fisher/Huerta for that event?

Last year, they released that it was going to be Hendo vs. Silva before tickets went on sale.. so right now looking at it, not that good of a card in my opinion. Not worth traveling 2 hours for it.

Huerta vs. Fisher not Happening

It’s noted at the bottom of this news bit that Fisher’s representative said a bout between Spencer and Roger isn’t likely.

Hughes vs. Serra also isn’t happening until May at the earliest. Serra’s wife is having a baby in April, so he refuses to fight in that month. Dana said it will definitely be in the summer.

Thanks for the update

Mega boo on the Huerta/Fisher bit. That would have been a really good fight.

by Rundownloser on Jan 3, 2009 10:02 PM EST up reply actions

Yes it would have. Lame.

Just to be nitpicky… Jason Day pulled out of the fight with Jason Lambert, MacDonald was the replacement.

There’s my pointless correction for the day.

This fight was requested and denied months ago. Way before Grove/Tanner and Day/Bisping. As soon as Day gets inside Groves reach which, given the brutal striking of da spyder as of late shouldn’t be that tough, the jig will be up. Kendall had better have a great 401k because he’s gonna be outworked, out muscled and definitely out classed (while wiping that smug look off his face) by Day in Ohio. A few new training partners up Day’s sleeve on the quest for continued improvement and same old, same old from Grove make this an easy bet.
