MMA on NPR

Last night, NPR's Marketplace ran a story on the steadily growing popularity of Mixed Martial Arts.  Kai Ryssdal prefaced the piece saying that most MMA fans probably don't listen to NPR and therefore won't hear this.  Well, since I haven't seen any reaction on the MMA blogs, maybe he was right.  If you want to hear the very positive story, listen here.

Note from Kid Nate, I edited a little bit to make the link live and to insert it in the text. Use the little chain link button in the editor panel above the text box and you too will have magical internet powers.

I used to listen to NPR...

every day on the drive to and from work. But now that I’ve switched to just working out of the house I don’t really listen to any radio outside of MMA Nation.

I heart NPR

That was a very objective look and very refreshing. I liked this quote:
“But also, I do think the economy is playing a role here. That if the UFC were to come to New York tomorrow, they’d sell out Madison Square Garden. And state budgets being what they are, I do think some of these legislatures are softening their stances in part because of economics.”

I listen to NPR as well, don’t know how I missed this one. I’ll write to them this weekend.

I didn’t think Kai’s assertion held true of MMA fans, but it depends which forum you ask. Marketplace is probably my favorite NPR show, now even more so. Thanks for the editing, Nate. I’m a blogger, but slacked and missed the link button.

I write a snarky food-blog and whenever I delve into politics, I get lots of Richmond-VA-centered discussion going, but when I even mention MMA, it’s crickets chirping. Luckily, I’ve got Bloody Elbow as my intellectual fight fan support group.

Cool, I used to live in Midlothian but now I’m up in Fredericksburg.

We should probably all be writing to NPR...

to let them know that there ARE MMA fans that are…you know…not morons. Not that they were implying that by not listening to NPR you’re an idiot…but you know what I’m saying. Just let them know that we’re out there…

I do not listen to NPR.

Sorry. That SNL skit about the cooking ladies killed it for me.

Understandable.

I still can’t hear Terry Gross’ voice without thinking about that skit.
