Adventures in Hyperbole: Matt Lindland Edition
I suppose the danger of releasing a documentary dedicated to how amazing and awesome you are is that reality can catch up before the release date.

That’s funny.
Did you know we are in high demand, Laura?

WTF is the point of this?
To make a case for the greatness of Matt Linland?
To shit talk about Dana White?
To bash on the UFC?
I don’t get it and it seems to have funny conflicting goals….seriously stupid.
Its to shit on Zuffa by all these wanna be journalists…
Even though this idiot did exactly what the venue told Zuffa it didnt want… and that was certain sponsors (sports books) in their venue.
So Lindland knew he would screw Zuffa in a shitty situation but he didn’t care and took a big pay day anyway.
As far as he was dropped because he didnt have the “look” or fear of him being the champion… again just plain ignorance.
He was given a title shot and lost.
He even lost another time and still wasn’t dropped.
He screwed Zuffa and then he was dropped.

So that’s the story behind Lindland, he was told b4 hand not to wear sports book shirt in their venue and just ignored ignored it anyway? And, was not offered a return to octagon a while back, but he said he had a better deal at other promotions? As far as title shot, was he not offered have an opportunity to get a title shot through the TUF 4 comeback show but he was not interested?

I could take him, too.

They couldn’t find anyone but two Sherdog staffers (and one ex-Sherdog staffer who still can’t get credentialed) to shit on the UFC and praise Matt Lindland?
Okay I’m done.
‘Like the Yankees cutting A-Rod.’ Although that is kind of similar, as A-Rod’s never had a championship either.

Um...
I show him losing his one shot at a UFC title against Bustamante. Enlighten me.

You're right...
I was misremembering that same fight. For some reason I remembered Matt as champ coming in.

Wasn't planned?
Dude – he uses that move all the time when he thinks he has his opponent hurt. He saw Fedor stumble backwards into the ropes and went to launch the knee to start a finishing flurry.
Was it part of Freddie Roach’s gameplan? No. Did AA plan or intend to throw the flying knee when he jumped in the air or was he just jumping for joy that his gameplan was unfolding well?

I think he got cocky after it worked against Big Ben. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
by Derek Suboticki on Jan 26, 2009 5:31 PM EST up reply actions
Exactly.
Was it ill-planned/timed? Most certainly. Was AA under the influence of a shadowy syndicate who forced him to do it to allow Fedor to win? No.
Bad move, he paid for it and I doubt we’ll see him get so horny against a dangerous opponent again. AA will be back – he’s still young and he’s still a top HW.

Agreed. I’d love to see him pound on Yvel and then come back to the UFC. The idea of AA-Kongo (in France) makes me happy in a lot of ways.

I have to think aspirations of a boxing career were vapourized by that fight.
I think it’s insane to say he’s got a glass chin due to that KO, it was as flush on the chin as it could be and an absolute bomb, but you are going to be in danger of those each and every time you fight a HW boxer worth his salt.

I really think he got suckered in by Fedor. I think Fedor realized he wasn’t able to fight AA at a distance and played some possum to get AA to try to rush in on him and close the distance for him. Whether or not he thought he’d get him to try the knee, I’d really have to doubt that, it seemed like that might have been his intention b/c he appeared to be spaghetti legged when he went back into the ropes, but planted and fired perfectly.
I’ve obviously seen from replays that he did in fact launch the punch before the knee was launched, but it just seemed like he was trying to suck him in.

a little off topic....
Has anyone heard if Lindland is okay after brutal ktfo? Any long term damage besides his ego?

He’ll have terminal issues with earning large amounts of money to fight.

Josh Gross: “I dont know what we’re doing with this thing”…
You dont know because you’re not doing shit. You’re not the one getting sanctioning… you’re not the one negotiating fighter contracts, trying to meet payroll while you’re in debt, or investing to grow the sport.
No
You’re going on puff pieces pretending to be a journalist and making a living off of the wave Zuffa created.
So Neel to ZOD mutherfucker.

That is my only issue with your post. Rec’d.

If you have to look at fights the guy lost as examples of how good he is then maybe he’s not all that after all.
He’s a quality fighter- certainly good enough to be in the UFC, but not marketable enough or good enough to be paid like a star.

He didnt duck him, he asked for a new opponent because a 185er with only wrestling would have been murdered by Chuck back then.

Lindland is a peice of work. He currently bitches about not being offered a deal, but he was under contract when they bought WFA and wanted out.
He was offered a deal for TUF IV and walked away.
Stop whining.
Was the shirt BS? Yes, but it was Matt’s personality that got him fired. The guy spent a hell of a lof of time complaining and bitching. He rubbed a lot of folks the wrong way and they jumped at the chance to get rid of him.
I can’t help but notice that Pride never signed him. Will this show take shots at them for not bringing him in?
How about Matt walking away from verbal agreement to fight Anderson Silva? The money was better to face Van Arsdale. Nothing wrong with that, but it makes Gross’ argument about the best fighting the best a little hypocritical.
