Affliction's Next Show

It doesn't look like Affliction will promote a third show until July, if at all, but I am still on a high off the fights, so instead of focusing on reality I'm going to write about things I'd like to see on the next card.

Fedor vs. Barnett is obviously a must.  Josh didn't exactly get the kind of win you'd hope for to build this fight, but it's still the right fight.  Josh is a good talker, can probably built it up pretty well.  I don't think his standing game is good enough to handle Fedor though.

I'd also like to see Tito Ortiz vs. Andrei Arlovski, with the winner getting a shot at the winner of the main event.  The size difference isn't huge, and this is a match with big enough names to potentially draw in the masses.  There are a lot of obstacles though, the main one being the fact that I think Tito is going to end up in the UFC.  If we can't get this, the next best option is Arlovski vs. Overeem with the winner getting a title shot.

Mousasi vs. Babalu is another great option for the next show.  Mousasi wants to go to 205, Babalu is on a streak...at this point you have a rockin card.

Maybe fill out the main card with Nogueira-Buentello and Werdum against someone.

Reality flash:  Realistically speaking, they need ODLH to invest significant money in them to survive.  I don't see it happening, but hopefully he was won over by the end.  Who could complain about getting these cards 3 times a year?

Arlovski-Overeem is much more compelling than AA-Tito, imo. Hell, I think AA-Yvel would be a fucking barnburner.

Also, I think there’s like a 50 pound difference between Horodecki and Sokoccasionaljudo.

Somehow I had a mind fart and typed in Horodecki without thinking.

whats wrong with Babalu vs Little Nog? That’s a fight I’ve wanted to see for a decade.

by Kid Nate on Jan 25, 2009 1:33 AM EST reply actions

That’s a good one too.

by Michael Rome on Jan 25, 2009 1:35 AM EST up reply actions

They might be homedawgs. I think when they were both signed to HCF (seemingly ages ago) the fight was tabled and quickly shot down.

King Mo also stated he is just Asia-exclusive with Sengoku, so he could be another possibility. King Mo vs. Mike Whitehead would be a good fight if he impresses vs. Kawamura. 205lbs outside the UFC is looking a lot less bleak than it did a year ago.

by smoogy on Jan 25, 2009 2:19 AM EST up reply actions

Isn’t Mo fighting 185?

by Michael Rome on Jan 25, 2009 2:30 AM EST up reply actions

His last two were 205. He says he will fight at 185, 205 or heavyweight if need be.

by smoogy on Jan 25, 2009 2:36 AM EST up reply actions

He was wrestling at 185, but I’m quite sure his MMA so far has been at 205.

Probably he doesn’t need to cut much to go down to 205. If he went to the big leagues he would be better of at 185, I think. He would be a real threat there.

his first scrap was at HW

Not to be weird or anything

But I would have sex with a 3rd Affliction show. I doubt it will happen, but these great fights will only continue to push UFC to even greater heights. Maybe eventually we’ll even see no more PPVs like 93.

I would have sex with a 3rd Affliction show.

yup. that’s weird.

by Tonley on Jan 25, 2009 1:48 AM EST up reply actions

Duh.

It’s a metaphor. Imagine a 3rd Affliction show is Bulma, and I am Vegeta.

by Farthammer on Jan 25, 2009 1:52 AM EST up reply actions

So would that mean Trunks is a shirt covered with wings, chains, and skulls?

by Tonley on Jan 25, 2009 2:12 AM EST up reply actions

belfort vs. mousasi would be good

by drano on Jan 25, 2009 2:37 AM EST reply actions

Different weights – Mousasi’s done at 185

by Derek Suboticki on Jan 25, 2009 2:48 AM EST up reply actions

the kind of paydays affliction is shelling out I could see Mousasi staying at 185

by drano on Jan 25, 2009 2:52 AM EST up reply actions

Mousasi was actually at the show tonight

He did an interview on another website saying hes looking at March or April Dream card for his next fight and it will be at 205. That gives just enough time to come over and kick some ass stateside

I’m watching the Aussie Open (Tennis) on ESPN2 and on the ticker, it listed Fedor beating Andrei for the WAMMA championship! It even listed their rankings “According to Sherdog.com” I welled up with pride when the little square off to the right said “MMA”. Our baby’s growing up…

That ought to be ‘according to the BloodyElbow.com Meta-Rankings’. And ‘WAMMA’ should be surrounded by clown shoes.

Rios vs. Davis (send Hominick to the DREAM FW GP)
Lauzon vs. Horodecki
Pyle vs. Cooper (send Hieron to the DREAM WW GP)
Quach vs. Duarte (at BW)

Little off topic.....

But talking about Tito…..Did anyone notice that he was bigger than Fedor during the interview and how much larger than Babalu he looked???

I know that Tito cuts and is a pretty big LH. Maybe it is just the size of that melon on his shoulders??

by fightfan on Jan 25, 2009 3:27 AM EST reply actions

he was also in dress shoes beside a barefoot Fedor. just saying….

Affliction 3 Should Be GREAT!

I am glad some people are now WANTING Affliction to stick around a bit more.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Jan 25, 2009 7:45 AM EST up reply actions

Good card Afflicition, nice knowing you

the numbers dont add up, look at the math(and im being generous)

15000 tickets x $100 = 1.5mil
100k ppv buys x 44.95= 4.49mil of which they get half

that equals 3.74 million dollars gross

then we must subtract fighter salaries, areana cost, staffing, advertisments

so how much is left to split between m-1/affliction/dj trump/ golden boy

by #5mmafan on Jan 25, 2009 10:00 AM EST reply actions

It doesn’t look like Affliction will promote a third show

The rest seems unnecessary to me.
