Quote of the Day: Oleg Taktarov Talks Fedor Emelianenko's Trainer Vladimir Voronov

820_medium

"Vladimir is naturally a gifted fighter, more gifted even than Fedor originally. He was born with better qualities, body and everything else. Just mentally he falls short."

Oleg Taktarov talking to Josh Gross about his friend Vladimir Voronov.

There's lots more good stuff in the piece, including this pissing match between Voronov and Andrie Arlovski trainer Freddie Roach:

Of Emelianenko, Roach said last month: "He has no boxing ability whatsoever. He's a street fighter. He just throws punches and comes forward."

Through an interpreter, Voronov responded with: "I like people that talk less and perform more."

When Voronov was asked if he wished to offer an assessment of Arlovski like Roach did Emelianenko, his interpreter came back over the phone with a telling description of the trainer: "He's making a face."

He would go so far as to say Emelianenko had met "more dangerous opponents."

I was rewatching some old Fedor fights. I notice Coleman actually gave him some trouble before he got in a sneaky armbar. That got me thinking that guys like Carwin or Ganzaga might give Fedor real challenges if they have their cardio right. Anyone have thoughts

Freddie Roach has been in a couple of fights in his life.

"I decided to become a basketball fan this year and it’s not working out so well because the Wizards SUUUCK. So then I shifted to hockey. That’s pretty fun except there are a lot of flashing lights and horns and shit at the game."
