Woohoo!

Thanks for the Play By Play of the weigh ins.
Some of us are still at work!

Affliction has cheessy shiznit

Damn, you pay $45 for the fight and I can’t even see the weigh – ins? Low tech garbage with some Jerry Mullins running his damn mouth. Shut the hell up and let me see the weigh-ins. “Let’s call Dana” and post it on YouTube. Stupid!!!

can anyone get sound?

by Marcus213 on Jan 23, 2009 6:16 PM EST reply actions

Affliction is wasting a lot of time in between weigh ins which means a lot of silence.

by Dropkick434 on Jan 23, 2009 6:22 PM EST up reply actions

what are they doing?

at this rate, I’m not sure they’ll finish on time for the show tomorrow.

by NinjaCodah on Jan 23, 2009 6:30 PM EST reply actions

They said on HDnet they are having studio commentators and commercial break. So if you were watching this on TV it would probably be a whole lot more entertaining.

by Dropkick434 on Jan 23, 2009 6:34 PM EST up reply actions

What the hell, how do you watch it.

by IHITUQUIT on Jan 23, 2009 10:05 PM EST up reply actions

this is fucking horrible, cant be that hard to get all of the fighters lined up one after another to make it look professional at least. im watching it all because im a die hard MMA fan that is interested, but what about the more casual fan that Affliction really needs to be making due allowance for, they would turn this shit off in a second.

He could be of fought more competitive fighters in affliction – even brett rogers is more competitive – you got werdum, etc…

Brett rogers is tied up in Elite XC’s mess – Werdum wanted too much and Alex E couldn’t get cleared Yvel was the 4th option.

Pretty much

They are still in negotiations to eventually sign according to Werdum when last he was asked (well over a month ago)… But then again he didn’t even know he had been released from the UFC

Rogers is and was free to take one fight,

which is exactly what yvel was signed for…

Sometimes its difficult to explain things slowly over the internets so the handicap can understand.

by mmalogic on Jan 23, 2009 8:25 PM EST up reply actions

Where's your source that he was free to take a fight?

I saw an interview where it was stated that they went after him and then when Elite resurrected they couldn’t get him.

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 23, 2009 9:10 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah ok I know where you're getting it.

That changed

James Iannotti (MMAmania.com): There were rumors of you facing both Brett Rogers and Aleksander Emelianenko before Yvel was officially announced. Which of the three would you fight if it were your choice?

Josh Barnett: Brett Rogers was I guess a possibility, but because of all the legal aspects of the Elite XC scenario right now, it couldn’t happen. I was fine with that. Aleksander was absolutely never a consideration. That was just some sort of propaganda that he or somebody else was trying to put out there. He can’t even be licensed in the state of California so it’s an impossibility for him to be an option for anyone at this point. And Gilbert Yvel was the only solid offer I got, you know, besides Brett, and Brett, well I guess I can’t acknowledge because he could never fight.

Gimme 1 Round!

by skwirrl on Jan 23, 2009 9:16 PM EST up reply actions

Yvel is pronounced I-vel apparently. Always thought it was Ya-vel. About the only useful thing I’ve gained from this whole event.

by Sokonojudo on Jan 23, 2009 7:20 PM EST reply actions

I realize this is being shown on HDNet but they should have at least considered that they were allowing it to be seen elsewhere like on ESPN.com and what it would look like on there.

They could have had all the weigh-ins in a row and then HDNet could have went back and broke down each individual fight and interviewed them if that is what they wanted to do. What would have been wrong with that? Because now to everyone not watching it on HDNet who hasn’t quit watching elsewhere this looks like a big unorganized cluster fuck in my opinion.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Jan 23, 2009 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

he does deserve more cred because of his size…

he just needs to now fight HW’s who are more contemporary.

He has gotten away with the size difference because he has only fought primarily one dimensional fighters.

Wait until he fights the GSP’s of the HW division then he will notice the size difference.

Interestingly enough, HDNet is pretending that WAMMA is a credible title sanctioning body, which I assume is a joke being played on WAMMA. Or maybe I just hope that’s the case.

Finally, stop perpetuating this lie that Affliction started promoting fights because ZUFFA banned their shirts. It’s the other way around. Besides, when Affliction promotions go under after tomorrow’s show, I’m sure we’ll see their shirts on several UFC fighters once again. Whether or not it’s because ZUFFA purchases Affliction remains to be seen.

WAR ZUFFA!!

Zuffa is MMA’s bestest friend in the whole wide world. It ain’t even close.

The best paid boxers/fighters/golfers/any athlete makes the most money in America. And yet, the NBA’s dominance has clearly affected the ascent of basketball in Europe, Asia and South America. We’ll get the best fighters; the sport will grow; everybody’s happy.

Except those that hate Zuffa.

Weigh Ins Were Good

Is what I am hearing from all the people that saw them on HDNet.
I will catch it soon to see.

Well, what you’re hearing is wrong.

I heard they were good on HDNet.
The whole show was formatted for them, so I figure it would be a lot better than the ESPN version.

Well, I watched it on HDNet, and aside from Bas calling Gary Millen an asshole, the show was dreck.

I didn’t actually check the rec count. I have just seen some people think it takes 1 rec to flip the comment.

Actually, I enjoyed the HDNet Weigh Ins.

It was really good and have never seen a FULL LIVE pre-show for a fight card on TV.
People should be writing stories about how great HDNet covered the Affliction DOR Weigh Ins.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Jan 23, 2009 11:43 PM EST up reply actions

C’mon man, I love HDNet and support most of the mma out there, but this was fairly bad. They should have sped it up a bit, then spent the last half of Inside MMA in the more traditional manner.

If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

Checked it out...

and yeah, it really wasn’t exactly “great.” I mean, it wasn’t bad either…

I think my disappointment probably stems from how it could have been so much better. I watched and it wasn’t the worst thing ever, but it was clunky and didn’t flow well. With Inside MMA incorporated, I think it could have been really good.

Did you really expect more from the company who has only just in the past week or two started pushing the hype for this event? They probably called HDNet the morning of the weigh-ins to see if InsideMMA would cover it.

Damn Garbage Damn Company

Is it me or does this look like a damn dumptruck show!!! Stupid, I hope they go under.

I almost flew out there for exactly that reason, but worried the show would get canceled at the last minute.
