Bob Reilly Strikes Again
Once in a while, if you're ever feeling down about yourself, take a moment and read a few Bob Reilly quotes. You'll become depressed that such a blithering idiot could ever be a public official, but at the same time, your opinion of yourself will probably shoot through the roof.
The Associated Press has a new article on legalization in New York. The article is not especially promising, though it's worth noting that the legislation was reintroduced today:
"What the people from Ultimate Fighting will tell you is that 'We've changed the rules and it's no longer this brutal, no-holds-barred sport that it was in the past,"' Assemblyman Bob Reilly said. "That's far from the whole story. What they don't tell you is what is allowed. Kicking to the head. Kneeing them. Sitting on top of them and repeatedly punching them in the head and face. They don't tell you those things."
"I got into this accidentally," said Reilly, a former cross-country coach at Siena College. "This is not my issue in life. I'm very interested in agriculture."
To make it clear, Bob Reilly isn't just completely ignorant of the sport he is leading the charge against. He also doesn't care much about it, he just denies fighters a state to make a living in as a hobby on the side.
I'd love to hear his theories on agriculture, they can only get more entertaining than his thoughts on the "false economy."

Interesting that he’s a former cross country coach. Didn’t one of the top marathoners in the country die running a race in New York City a couple years ago? You’d think he’d want to ban running then.

What the UFC doesn’t want us to know is that people punch each other in the face at these so called mixing martial artistry events.

His False economy rant is fun. A prectionist argument (always wrong, regardless of where you apply it) applied to state borders. That’s just stupid.
(On the other hand, I come from a country where we ban pro-boxing because…we can?)

Yeah. But nowadays combat sports are catching the eye of a lot of people. The mainstream press, though, haven’t even mentioned the existance of MMA. If DN/SvD/AB/Exp would do a piece on it, I think it could come out, guns blazing.
