Jeff Monson Arrested for Suspicion of Assault on a Female UPDATED

Promoted to the front page from the FanPosts by Luke Thomas.
If it isn't one thing with Monson, it's another. Last week Jeff Monson was charged with malicious mischief and now the former #1 UFC heavyweight contender has been arrested, but not because of the graffiti work he did on the state Capitol. This time it seems as if Monson was involved in domestic abuse against 30-year-old Stephanie Trapani, who is involved with Monson.
Here is what happened leading up to the incident and the incident itself according to the Olympian:
Trapani says she had a romantic relationship with Monson, but they got in an argument after found out he had romantic relationships with other women. She also alleges "he has two wives." She said she found out information about his other girlfriends on his cell phone and she then threw the cell phone out the window of her car while she was driving to pick him up at the gym. When he found out his cell phone was gone when they returned to Trapani's home, he got angry. "He went ballistic," she said.
At Trapani's home, Monson packed up his belongings, Trapani said. But when she told him she had thrown his cell phone out the window of her car, he grabbed her laptop and started "hitting the columns" of her home. She said Monson was enraged, and put a hole in the wall and flipped over a grandfather clock.
Two wives, a girlfriend and other romantic interests? AND the one girlfriend picks him up at the gym after he works out? Pimpin' ain't easy.
Is it me or have MMA fighters been in the news a lot lately, but not for the right reasons? It seems as if there is an incident a week involving an MMA fighter.
UPDATE
The Olympian has an updated report saying that Trapani has more photos of Monson spraying grafitti on various other locations. She tells the Olympian that she will be ahnding over the photos to prosecutors involved in tha case against Monson. She discovered the pictures on Monson's cell phone, which she had thrown out her car window after finding out about his other girlfriends. After she calmed down she recovered the cell phone and plans on giving the phone to the authorites.
"I'm sure the prosecutors would like to look at that," she said.Note to Monson(and everyone really): Don't mess with crazy chicks who have incriminating photos of you.

Going on a tirade is one thing..
But nowhere in that entire article does it indicate how he assaulted the girl.

from Cage Potato
North Carolina on a charge unrelated to his malicious mischief trouble in Olympia, Washington. Now he’s in jail on suspicion of "assault on a female and injury to real property." Girl troubles gone terribly wrong, in other words. How disappointing.
and it’s suspicion of assault. Sounds to me like he flipped out and went crazy on her house, not that he attacked her. But thats what they are calling it so…. yeah

Fair enough, however;
I’ve seen various snippets suggest that he grabbed her or shook her. I’d like to read some official detail.

Even she doesn’t say he assaulted her.

Thats assualt. Battery is the charge if he hit her. When you hear assault and battery its he made her feel threatened AND whupped her ass. Assault can be something as minor as screaming at someone or throwing something across the room.

Monson seems like such an unbelievable douche. Even before all of this stuff came to light.

A douche?
This term is used too liberally… Monson is a really nice guy, in fact. I don’t doubt a lot of people would react similarly in finding out their girl is dumping them and threw their cellphone out of a moving car (which is not to say it’s acceptable, mind you).

You seem to be ignoring the details in the story. you know, the fact that he has 2 wives and numerous GF’s? This isn’t anything to be proud of. I know younger guys think it’s “cool” to have multiple women, but it’s no badge of honor. Especially when those women don’t know about the others. So yes, he’s quite the douche actually.

Lots of people have way worse incedents on a daily basis. Just beause he’s a big scary UFC guy, the media will play with it. It will pan out into nothing though. It was just an argument and she wanted the attention. She broke his stuff, he broke hers. As long as he didn’t hit her, and didn’t go nuts like say…. get in a car and go nuts on a freeway on a wild police chase and hit 12 cars or something cough rampage. Not that it’s cool to lose your cool and hit things, but how much damage was really done, he just needs to make sure he fixes what he broke.

Complaining that an anarchist does something that flaunts legal and social convention is like complaining when the snake you picked up bites you. “B* you knew I was a snake when you picked me up.”
She should have lied to Monson and told him that she gave the phone to a homeless person, since private property is theft.

anarchist =/= communist
"I'm AJB and I endorse this nut-puncher."
by AJB on Jan 20, 2009 11:03 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Monson is an anarchist, not a communist. Although both are considered extreme left wing ideologies, they are pretty much antithetical to each other – in the same way that atheism is antithetical to all forms of religion.
by Jahbulon on Jan 20, 2009 11:05 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Well, they aren’t antithetical. Eventually the communist state is supposed to sort of dissipate as the society moves beyond governance. The state has its transformative effect and then fades away.
by Rundownloser on Jan 20, 2009 11:16 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Given the fact that a communist state never has and never will dissipate, and that all communist states have increased rather than decreased governance, I stand by my statement. However, you are right though that the fathers of communism claimed that would happen.
by Jahbulon on Jan 20, 2009 11:22 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, it is an adorable theory.
by Rundownloser on Jan 20, 2009 11:24 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yes, actually they are. Anarchism and socialism are not antithetical, but communism is a particular form of vanguardist, party-based, revolutionary socialism. Anarchists are anti-vanguard, and anti-party, so they pretty much don’t talk to each other.
"I'm AJB and I endorse this nut-puncher."
by AJB on Jan 20, 2009 12:26 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’ll admit that I am not an expert, I was under the impression that communism isn’t necessarily vanguardist. Some forms, taking after Lenin, do support a vanguard, but communism isn’t inherently wedded to that notion. Nevertheless, in all systems on communism, eventually anarchy comes about due to the dissipation of the state as it becomes obsolete.
I think that we might be breaking the “no politics” proviso, but this is fun.
by Rundownloser on Jan 20, 2009 12:37 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Generally, it’s accepted these days that there are very, very few non-vanguardist forms of communism. There are some post-marxist communists floating around out there, but to be honest, they don’t really fit into traditional communist tenets and beliefs. I think the label “communist” is applied to them because no one has figured out anything more accurate. You are starting to see “non-hegemonic socialists” who support “socialism from below”, though, which is about the same thing as near as I can tell.
As for the “dissipation of the state”, that doesn’t necessarily lead to “anarchy”, though it could lead to “anarchism”. Anarchism and social anarchy are not necessarily connected – anarchists by and large support “voluntary order” rather than a total lack of laws. Other than anarcho-primativists, but they’re just… different. And I don’t really need to point out that no communist government has ever dissolved the state, because someone already did that. Anarchists disagree with communists on that point as much as any other: the master’s tools cannot destroy the master’s house.
In other words, there’s lots of grey areas, but generally when people say “communism” they mean the party-based kind of top-down socialism.
And I think it’s fine as long as we don’t take sides since all we’re doing is talking about definitions… But I’m sure Luke/Nate/another editor will let us know if we’re off base.
"I'm AJB and I endorse this nut-puncher."
by AJB on Jan 20, 2009 1:23 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, I didn’t mean to conflate anarchy and anarchism. That was rather sloppy of me.
Well thanks for the info. My understanding of communism is sorely lacking considering I’ve studied it more from a more clinical, historical perspective, so it’s really cool to hear this stuff.
Would you agree then, that communism isn’t necessarily vanguardist conceptually, but practically speaking it is in that most modern day communists are vanguardist?
And on the anarcho-primativists, are they sort of neo-tribalist luddites (not intending to be pejorative with the term luddite)?

No problem; and it’s a fun discussion for me because, as an activist, I’ve really had to get to know where all the lines between similar-but-different groups are. Nice to know that all the lessons can come in handy now and again.
Yeah, I’d agree with that statement on communism. Communism as an ideological movement wasn’t tied to particular tactics at its origin, but there are certain conventions that have become associated with it over time, as has happened with liberalism (must it be inherently capitalist? no, but it is now) and other philosophies. Probably the biggest influence on contemporary communism is Gramsci’s idea of counter-hegemony, and it’s important to realize that the basic idea (not necessarily how Gramsci wrote it) could be applied either from an institutionalized (China and North Korea both do some of this) or a non-hierarchical, community based (South American peasant groups, for example) setting. That one is called “communism” and the other tends to get labeled a “social movement” shows that institutionalization has become almost completely correlated with communism.
Anarcho-primitivists are an interesting lot. They take basic anarchist analyses of power, the state, social cohesion (and coercion), and then add in the idea that humans can only achieve fulfilment and freedom by assuming a role in the “state of nature” that is hidden behind human-built structures of oppression. They have some good/interesting ideas – some parts of deep ecology and anarcho-primitivism have cross-pollinated – and also some… special characters who go a bit far with things (the Unibomber’s writings are a favourite of these guys). They range from people who try to live as simply and ecologically as possible while still holding jobs and such, to people who refuse to bathe, buy anything (everything is made/scrounged), own property, and will randomly destroy technology that they judge harmful. Of course, the majority fall somewhere in between.
