UFC 93, not worth my $54.99
Last night, I watched UFC 93. I was disappointed to say the least. I have been an avid fan and have not missed a UFC card, free or PPV, since I started watching around UFC 50. It was by far, the worst card I’ve seen and I would kind of like my $54.99 back. (I watch in HD).
From the opening bell, it was a boring card. I was interested in the matchups to see where the fighters would move up in their respected weight divisions. As it turned out, getting the W really did not help anyone.
Marcus Davis vs. Chris Lytle was exciting, but not exciting enough. Stylistically, it was perfect. It was like they were fighting mirror images of themselves. Some might say that Marcus Davis' comment of 'The fist guy to go to the ground is a pussy' was not right, but from the moment the fight was announced they both said they wanted a stand up war and that they would come out bloody, bruised and it was a battle of the stronger chin. Personally I would have like a few more exchanges and to have seen rounds 4 and 5. If this goes to Davis vs. Lytle 2, I would most definately tune in.
I was excited for Denis Kang's UFC debut. I have heard and read a lot about this guy and it was all positive. For a guy with his level, WHY WHY WHY was he fighting Alan Belcher? I was in attendance at UFC 83, when he got his ass handed to him by Jason Day. Yes, the boy has been 3-1 in his last 4 fights, but to hear of that match up, it seemed as though the UFC was giving Denis Kang an easy go. That being said, Belcher did win, and his guillotine was beautiful, but Kang got sloppy and Belcher got lucky. At best, a few more fights before you fight for the title young man.
Rousimar Palhares in my opinion is not being marketed right by the UFC. The man is an animal on the ground, and in my opinion is one of the best in the UFC, if not the world. Give him a shot with Chris Leben, Michael Bisping, Jason Macdonald, Yushin Okami or Damian Maia. See how he does vs. younger guys who have yet to hold a title. I think they would be hungrier and more explosive. Personally, Maia vs. Palhares would be the next fight both should take. Two of the best BJJ guys in the biz, happen to be in the same weight class and we get Jeremy Horn? I like Horn, but Joe Silva, your work is slipping.
Hathaway vs. Egan was a one sided beating. It made Egan look like he had no business being there. Not a whole lot to say, other than I would enjoy seeing Hathaway again vs. someone we have seen before. When two unknowns step into the octagon, it has the chance to squash any kind of future if you get completely dominated. Who knows if we will see Egan again? Time is on his side as he is the youngest competitor in the UFC, but I think it will be a while.
And now, the co-main events. Shogun vs. Coleman. Both passed their prime. Coleman has no gas tank, and Shogun looked completely lost. Neither one of them looked remotely like they used to. I'm going to disagree with Joe Rogan and say that the stoppage was slightly premature. I fully understand the safety aspect, and the face that you must err on the side of caution, however I think Coleman could have used a few more punches and the chance to recover slightly and at least finish the bout. I was looking foreword to the scorecards. Who do they get next? For Coleman, your guess is as good as mine. For Shogun, it's Chuck. Thank god they put him with a big name like that, because without it, neither one is no longer the big draw they once were.
Franklin vs. Hendo. I wanted Rich to win. I like them both. They are well rounded and all around nice guys with a ton of respect and class. They both looked good and I am excited to see TUF 9 regardless of who was coaching. Obviously, Hendo vs. Bisping will be a good fight, but I have always wanted Franklin vs. Bisping since he dropped to middleweight. What I would like to know is who in their right mind scores a split decision 30-27 for the looser? That's bad judging right there. There is no way Franklin won round 1. I would much rather be looking forward to Franklin vs. Liddell than Shogun.
That concludes my ranting and I feel much better so thanks to all the readers for hearing me vent my frustrations and I sat back and watched $54.99 go to waste. Could have bought a new game for my Wii, a pack of smokes and a 12 pack of Budweiser and had more fun than watching, in my opinion, the worst card I’ve ever seen.

Sport is a hit or a miss. A terrible card on paper turns out to be great. A great card on paper turns out to be a bad. And sometimes, a terrible card on paper turns out how it’s supposed to. It’s sport.

Were you really surprised ?
This event was predicted by many to be a flop and surprise surprise it was. From what i have read, the undercard was more exciting than the main card. Seriously, UFC 93 was destined to flop due to the fact that it followed UFC 92 which was epic. Who didn’t see this coming ?

Are you Nostradamus or some shit? Maybe next time you can give us the fight results before the event starts so we can all save $54.99. Saying 93 was destined to flop is ridiculous. PPV wise, yeah, because it’s sandwiched between 2 events, but that had nothing to do with the outcome of the fights.

I am sorry you spent $54.99 to watch this event. Plenty of MMA fans saw this card and chose not to purchase it, not neccesarily because it was sandwiched between 2 events but because the card sucked(sucked might be a bit strong). Many bloggers predicted that this would be a lack luster event and it proved to be just that. I am sure their are plenty of fans who actually enjoyed 93 though.

i didn't spend $54.99...
I spent $44.95.. lol.. HD is just a little too expensive for me. I would have a hard time spending $60 an any PPV. I’m just not sure how anybody can be sure an event will be so lack luster. I’ve seen stacked cards turn out to be just as bad as 93, and cards that lacked stars turn out to be full on wars. And this card definitely had the potential to be a great night of fights.

I am not surprised
Which is why I saved my money for UFC 94 and Affliction 2.

So...
If 94 turns out to be as spectacular as we think it might, are you going to send in an extra $54.99?
Over the course of a year, I would say that most of the UFC cards meet or exceed expectations, so what are you complaining about?
93 had:
-a good, albeit not super anticipated, main event.
-a guy coming off back-to-back knee surgeries
-a 44 year old guy that hasn’t performed well for some time
-Kang, who was 3-3 in his last 6 fights, making his debut
-a couple of guys who wanted to have a stand up war, possibly at the cost of a loss on their records
-a ground fighter who dominated a guy who hasn’t beat anyone of note for quite a while
I’m not really sure what people were expecting from this card. Franklin/Henderson was a close fight, Lytle/Davis was exciting, Pahlares/Horn turned out to be a decent fight. And while Shogun’s gas tank was disappointing, the way the crowd got behind Coleman almost made up for it.
I say this card actually exceeded my expectations for it.
Was it a great card? Of course not, but I know that just about every time I order a UFC, I will be satisfied, so I can live with the occasional whiff.

I feel you… except that I don’t have to pay to watch 93 so I don’t get that much frustrated.
Shogun may have performed like he passed his prime but he’s just 27, there’s still alot of time for him to improve his cardio…

I was invited to watch this card
And if I wasn’t, I probably would’ve made a couple of people throw $20 with me to get the card and some beer. The beer I did drink made the event more enjoyable.
Honestly, they can’t all be winners. The way I look at it, they’re getting all the stink and bad luck out of the way before BJ/GSP II. Matchmaking is like poker – sometimes you do everything right and get shit on, and sometimes you fuck up royally and yet legendary things happen. I do think that the UFC does try, on every card, to put together fights
a) meaningful to the standings,
b) exciting to watch,
c) catered to the home crowd (if not in Vegas) and
d) that don’t protect their big names (see Lesnar-Mir I).
C is for cookie, and that’s good enough for me.

Agree all the way around. Very reasonable point.

It was a pretty weak event but I’ve seen enough duds to know this wasn’t THAT bad.
It had a tough go of things due to being sandwiched between 92 and 94, both was and should be epic.
At least you got to watch the whole show, I paid for the PPV and didn’t discover that my PVR didn’t record ANY sound until the event was nearly over. So I paid full price for a weaker event with no sound.
Anyway, December was pretty good, with the Fight For Troops, TUF finale and 92 so I’ll take the occasional weak card.
My biggest complaint was that Shogun looks like he has no business being in the UFC. Him against someone like Rashad or Rampage or pretty much anyone top 5 would be a massacre, which is something I was not expecting.

We have higher standards now
Back in the day – before UFC 66 (or thereabouts) this would have been considered a pretty decent card. The fans have been a little bit spoiled by the epicness of cards like Couture Lesnar (ok card on paper – awesome card to watch) and UFC 92 (Awesome on paper – friggin awesome to watch).
UFC 93 was actually pretty good on paper but it didn’t have a strong main event and in the end it turned out to be mediocre because none of the fights were actually all that amazing. Davis vs Lytle SHOULD NOT have been a fight of the night. If Davis had stood toe to toe with Lytle and brawled with him then maybe it would have been even better. As it turns out – he didn’t live up to his talk and he used his skill to defeat Lytle via UD.

I liked it
MMA fans are spoiled now IMO.
I just love MMA.

I wasn't dissappointed
Because I was busy “borrowing” the UFC’s content from intrawebs. Since I never give them a dime I generally don’t complain to much about the fights. Other than maybe the passing it sucked. I generally just complain about ZUFFA itself.

I can see were you’re coming from, but not every card is going to be fantastic. If you are going to be an mma fan you just have to accept that some of the ppv’s are going to be awful. It’s just part of the unpredictability of the sport.

Ur Cheap
It’s 55 bucks. I mean seriously. That’s a pair of pants nowadays. And to post about it being not worth it, makes u even cheaper.

Sucks for you but I got my $45 bucks worth, UFC 93 was actually slightly better than I thought it was going to be Belcher surprised me with his win and so did Coleman with his performance. Rich/Dan lived up to expectations even though I thought Frankling edged out the win, Davis/Lyttle was the slugfest that I expected and Palhares/Horn was the grappling contest that I wanted to see so i’m happy.

Why pay $54.99 when you could just go to Hooters like me and spend $15 and get wings and the fights, not to mention something to look at when the fights got a little on the boring side lol.
