Heath Herring is fighting at UFC 97 (Montreal) - Official

DreamFighters.com spoke with Heath Herring’s management team today very briefly to talk about a few promotional points, however we asked when Heath will be fighting next, and they let us in on his next fight date.

As quoted:

Heath is on the card for UFC Montreal. (UFC 97)

Heath was required to take almost 6 months off hard training due to his facial fracture from Brock Lesnar. However, it appears he is back and fighting at UFC 97.

UPDATE: Herring not fighting at UFC 97. (H/T Five Ounces of Pain)

Wow! How hard Brock must hit.

I never knew that Herring had a facial fracture. I bet that was an experience.

by Wookalarman on Jan 15, 2009 2:03 PM EST reply actions

Its just where he hit him

He fractured his orbital bone which is thin and pretty much exposed. To put it in comparison Brock is 280 and broke Herring’s orbital. Gomi is 180 and Broke Nick Diaz’s.

Happy to hear, I am a fan of the Texas Crazy Horse. I wonder if he is going to get one of the cans they have been giving Kongo.

I saw a report on fight ticker that said he was fighting Junior Dos Santos, which struck me as odd considering Dos Santos is fighting Stefan Struve on UFC 95 in London.

He ain’t fighting dos Santos.

Could it be Overeem. He is expected at UFC 93 and been rumored to be in talks with the UFC. Herring would be a solid first opponent and would be good exposure.

That would be effing awesome.

that would be a perfect fight for both.

by lbk on Jan 15, 2009 3:35 PM EST up reply actions

Good call. That would a good first fight for Overeem.

by Rundownloser on Jan 15, 2009 3:41 PM EST up reply actions

Not Overeem...

If Overeem signs with the UFC, UFC 97 would be too soon for him to make his debut.

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 15, 2009 10:33 PM EST up reply actions

Really? 97 is in mid-April. Why wouldn’t he be able to make it?

by Rundownloser on Jan 15, 2009 10:41 PM EST up reply actions

Still has contracted fights in Japan

UFC won’t negotiate with him “officially” till he fulfills those contracts. I am willing to bet that the UFC actually might pull Cro Cop vs Overeem for their PPV in Germany…. or at least they’ll get Overeem on that card.

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 15, 2009 10:47 PM EST up reply actions

Dang. What is his contract status? How many fights left?

by Rundownloser on Jan 15, 2009 10:55 PM EST up reply actions

I don't think it is too bad...

All I know is that w/ Fields Dynamite, he signed to fight Badr Hari twice… but maybe since Hari is refusing the 2nd matchup, he might get out of it. He also is still considered the Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion and since they actually are “somewhat” competitive to the UFC… he’d have to drop that title.

I’m sure he can and in the end will get out of any prior commitments if the UFC truly comes knocking on his door.. I just personally think that UFC 97 is too soon. Affliction will take Overeem because he won’t have to sign an exclusive deal but that all depends if they stay afloat after Day of Reckoning. There was a lot of songs and dances before Denis Kang finally got in the UFC, I’m anticipating the same sort of thing for Overeem. Considering Overeem’s popularity in Europe, it would be a smart marketing move on the UFC’s part to save him for that first big show in Europe to take place outside of the British Isles.

Maybe we should wait to see that MMAbay reports.

Pat Barry maybe? Might be a good matchup.

by Scott Haber on Jan 15, 2009 4:21 PM EST reply actions

I don’t think Barry has the tools to win that fight right now.

by Michaelthebox on Jan 15, 2009 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

I wouldn't say that...

I wouldn’t rule out Patrick Barry just yet…

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 15, 2009 10:34 PM EST up reply actions

Dude has been doing wrestling and Jiu Jitsu since May. MAY. Unless Barry is a total Cro Cop natural stay on his feet guy, Herring will just take him down and beat him up.

by Michaelthebox on Jan 16, 2009 4:16 AM EST up reply actions

I agree

Doesn’t mean he won’t be matched up with him. UFC sometimes makes matches that don’t make a whole lot of sense until after the fight is done.

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 16, 2009 6:21 PM EST up reply actions

Herring is due an easier fight than someone like Nogueira, Kongo, or Lesnar. He’s a big, powerful guy whose very marketable and a win would put him back in a spot for a big fight. I say he gets an opponent like Al-Turk, Dan Evensen, etc. or even a UFC newbie.

by dropkick101 on Jan 15, 2009 4:52 PM EST reply actions

I seriously doubt Evensen will be fighting in the UFC again. I doubt Al turk will either.

by lbk on Jan 15, 2009 5:41 PM EST up reply actions

I think there is a good chance Al-Turk will, as long as he can recover from his injuries. Evensen is almost certainly done.

by Michaelthebox on Jan 15, 2009 7:13 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed; Al-Turk is a lower-tier but legit heavyweight, and can be used on UK cards (where there is otherwise a distinct lack of heavies – I mean, they signed NEAL GROVE). Evanson was given two chances to show that head some skill, and what he showed is that he’s tall and strong. THat might be enough against other kickboxers and smaller, weaker mixed martial artists, but he got TOOLED twice.

Give Herring another fight with Kongo

just to stop his hype machine again

Oh god no...

Thats another rematch that never needs to happen again… ever…

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 15, 2009 10:35 PM EST up reply actions

Well, I'm definitely curious about this...

or at least see on here what the other sites think about who Heath’s next matchup will be and when it takes place.

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 15, 2009 10:48 PM EST reply actions

How about Herring vs Hardonk? I think that fight might be worth watching.

How about

Herring vs McCully. Something to get McCully’s garbage ass out of the UFC forever.

Lol...

I knew this was bull shit….

by Gunslinger20 on Jan 16, 2009 6:21 PM EST reply actions

So I just checked out "Dreamfighters.com"

Wow, they seem to have a lot of supposed “exclusives” with a lot of well known MMA personalities and Donald Trump. I know for a fact these guys aren’t allowed on UFC media calls.

After seeing that site, I’m more grateful for BE and the fact they don’t post garbage…. maybe posters should follow suit and not post garbage that is supposedly “official”. It isn’t official till the UFC says it is or the fighter themself says it is official.
