Was Matt Hamill Incapable of Fighting his Mentor?

There is a very well put together piece up at MMAFightline regarding the Matt Hamill fight, in which Hamill's trainer Duff Holmes conjectures that Matt was incapable of fighting his friend and mentor, Rich Franklin. He elaborates on a very detailed and precise gameplan to which Matt clearly did not adhere. It bares heavy consideration, given the recent news regarding Anderson Silva's and Paulo Filho's insistance that they cannot fight one another as close friends. Should Hamill have made the same motions, to save his trainers and fans the grief associated with his seeming refusal to aggressively attack his close friend?

"I practically begged Matt to take Rich down," said a clearly frustrated Holmes. "I was screaming at him to stop fighting Rich's fight and fight his fight. I can't explain it. He just had this blank look on his face. I don't know where he was, but the Matt Hamill that I know and trained for the past 11 weeks was not in that octagon on Saturday."

Well…Hamill has shown a propensity to stand and trade in his last few bouts…he took Bisbing and Boetsch down…but let them back up for the most part…he did get Franklin down once and did some damage…other times he got a leg/foot and Franklin jerked free…so I dunno.

For sure

It’s all speculation, but you truly could look at it both ways. It’s an interesting obsevation, no less..

“I was screaming at him to stop fighting Rich’s fight and fight his fight…”

Well, there’s your problem.

Yeah, didn't want to be the one to bring that up.

Especially with the much-discussed visual check-in to his corner early in the fight.

There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.
